===Canan===
I bounce my leg up and down in anxiety as I lean against the railing of the city theater steps. I'm really nervous if I am to be honest and a bit too prideful. I have no idea how to apologize to a Goddess, a Muse no less, and ask for forgiveness. Then to make a deal with her was a whole other thing. I had never made a deal with a God before and there was no saying what the deal may have as loopholes. Mother always made sure there was loopholes when it came to her own deals why wouldn't the Muses be any different. It was a matter of survival for them where it was a matter of desperation for us humans. How desperate are we to achieve the things these Gods offer.
I let out a soft sigh and close my eyes in thought. What am I truly supposed to do. I mean I know what I have to do but how will I do it. How will I know to find the ambrosia, to lull my mother's antics and how to not make Erato and my relationship messy with my mother prowling down my back half of the time.
"Canan," A sweet voice calls.
I look up to see it's none other then the Muse of Music and as of now my favorite Muse, Euterpe.
Her rosy lip smile widens as she pushes a lock of long golden hair behind her ear.
Then I notice another person beside her eyes shimmering like pristine amber as she approaches her onyx hair glistening in the light emitting from the theaters glass windows. Her eyes meet mine and I can immediatley tell this is yet another Muse as she deepens her mouth into an elegant smile.
"Oh," I start unsure of how to respond to this sudden introduction luckily I don't need to as Euterpe jumps in.
"This is my other sister Clio." Euterpe smiles sweetly. "Erato is feeling a bit sick and couldn't come."
I'm silent as I recollect her dwindling state that I had seen her in days before. "I see." I mumble softly noticing the hint of fear in Euterpe's eyes. "I hope she gets better soon." I say softer.
She nods then turns to her older sister. "Clio meet Canan, my music theory professor. Canan meet my second oldest sister Clio."
Clio smirks smooth and precise as she extends a hand to me. "Nice to meet you."
I reach for her hand then feel the slightest heat run up my arm. I almost retract it but force myself to grasp her hand. She is powerful. Maybe a bit too powerful as I nearly had her energy overflow into me. Not that this would be a problem but I have never met a Goddess as powerful as my mother not even my own sister was to be compared.
I gulp. Would it be persumptious to assume that Erato had told them I rejected her advances to make a deal with me.
"So you are the mortal who rejected my sister's offer for a contract." She purrs.
"Clio!" Euterpe chastises.
Clio rolls her eyes and crosses her arms. "It was bound to be spoken of at one point or another."
"Yes, but as the Muse of history you would think you would build up tension." Euterpe says avoiding her eyes.
Clio waves the thought away with her hand. "Anyone would know that us immortal beings do not follow the same rules as mortals." She looks to me now. "And besides before we spend a whole evening with this man we must establish some ground rules."
Euterpe sighs placing a hand against her forehead as she shakes it side to side in disaproval. "What are your and Aphrodite's motive."
I take a step back with my hands up in a motion of defense. "Nothing at all. Can't you tell that by looking into my history."
"That's not how her powers work." Euterpe mumbles.
"I have to be granted permission." Clio adds. "And it's not like history tells me the future." She furrows her brows. "That's all besides the point. I just would like to know if there is something which we should worry about when it comes to the probability of Aphrodite appearing."
"No of course not," I place my hands to my side. "I have no intention of making a deal with Aphrodite or letting her know that any of you are still alive otherwise she'll just try to use me as a pawn to retrieve you guys and I honestly have no intrest in that or the lives of the Goddesses at all."
Clio is silent as she peers at me her eyes narrowing into slits as she thinks. "Is that why you rejected our sister's offer."
"Yes, I have seen Aphrodite's powers, I have seen how selective and how inconsiderite they can be and have no interest in the help which she wishes to provide me as well as the prospects which your sister claims I can have with her help." I lie.
I figure if I am to make a deal with Erato I would like it to be just between us two to prevent her sister's from being involved like my mother.
"But she's not lying." Euterpe chimes in.
Clio and I look to her. "What do you mean." I mumble.
"You are a talented musician." She continues. "A one in a thousand year musician."
"Then why don't you build a contract with me?" I retort.
She takes a step forward. "Because I have never met a musician who makes music so well that it transcribes to a muse's understanding of words."
I relax my shoulders and press my hand to my mouth in surprise. "What do you mean?"
"Erato forsees your music better than I can see which shouldn't be possible but I can only assume your music is so in depth that it translates to words and emotions in a way which my understanding of music can't comprehend."
I press my hand over my mouth to hide my surpirse. I knew why Erato could translate it better it was more than obvious why. It is because I am the son of the Goddess of love and she is the Muse of Love poetry that alone was a deep enough connection where my music could translate to a Muse as love poetry.
"Pherhaps it is his connection to Aphrodite." Clio mumbles tilting her head.
She's quick witted compared to her sisters.
Euterpe takes a breath and turns to her tall sister. "You know I thought that as well but it's quite obvious that he has no contract with Aphrodite and even if his parents did make a deal with her there is no way it could transfer to him.
"Although she is trying to make a deal with him." Clio adds. "So who is to say that she isnt lending her powers to him free of charge."
Euterpe shakes her head and begins to walk to the entrance of the theater where groups of people are rushing in. "We both know how selfish she is. She defintley would not do that for free but who knows maybe her concieted heart has changed over these many years."
Clio follows her sister and I follow after them.
As we pass the threshold of the double glass doors into an entryway carpeted in velvet I clear my throat. "Is it okay for us to talk about this in such a public setting." I mumble as I glance at the few groups of people who glance to the pair of sisters.
Euterpe giggles. "Do you think anyone would believe us if they heard us."
In all honesty, no, they would think we were talking about some ancient Greek lore of something along those lines.
I follow the woman in silence as they show their mobile tickets to one of the security guards and then follow through. We slowly pass through another set of doors to the grand theater which is filled with rows upon rows of people. The air is filled with soft chatter and shuffling feet as the patrons of the theater hurry to find their seats before the ballet begins.
The sound of a harp is plucked.
"Too sharp." Euterpe hums.
The comment makes me recall her habits in the schools orchestra where she would bustle about the room helping other students tune. I had my suspicions then but was blinded by her kindness and sincerity to the point of just believing she was a talented musician. To now know that she is the Muse of Music feels a bit of a betrayal as she's had thousands of years to perfect her craft.
"I hope they are in tune." Clio sighs. "I don't want to hear you if they are not Euterpe."
Euterpe crosses her arms. "It is not my fault that I am sensitive to the sounds."
"Yes well if they are not please do not comment on every single measure."
"I do not do that."
"Yes you do." I add softly.
The girls stop and turn to me with suspicion. "How would you know." Clio asks with a tilt of her head.
"Yes how." Euterpe pouts softly.
I give a nervous grin. "I'm the teacher assistant to the schools orchestra conductor. I've seen your sheet music, it's scribbled with notes and corrections."
She smiles full of pride. "It is but this is just a habit us Muses have with our music."
Clio scoffs as she leads us through a row of chairs. "Yes, but your corrections have always been excessive."
We slowly settle into our seats. "That is to be expected from me the one that percieves music in a deeper form."
Euterpe settles between Clio and I as she folds her hands in her lap, crosses her legs and leans back into her chair. It's a very causual position for a being who is the epitimy of music.
I clear my throat again. "How do you-"
"Flat." She mumbles in response to a violin. "Sorry what was that." She says turning to me with full attention.
My thoughts stumble as her pretty face is a bit too close and I have no choice but to lean back. "I was curious how do you percive music."
She presses a finger to her lip as she looks down. "I suppose the best way to put it is that Erato and I have visions of their inspiration We can see what inspired the musician to make their piece and with that we can inspire more by amplifying the emotions thus our influence is made to make the piece more enthralling to our audiences. Im not sure how in depth she can connect with her art form but for mine, it's like I see a mosaic of colors all colliding to make a grand picture which awakens a feeling deep within the human mind."
"Sounds beautiful." I mumble.
"It is, which is why I love my job. I can help others see the beauty of the music." She pauses. "Although Erato's power is also beautiful. To have the ability to convey feelings into words and translate love into musical notes is no easy feat. Many have a hard time doing such things but one deal with her and she can make a man the greatest writer or musician on Earth." The lights in the theater begin to dim. "Consider it Canan," She whisphers leaning closer. "Consider a deal with my sister and I will be greatful for your help." The orchestra plays a B flat in unison. "But you only have until midnight so please make your decision soon."
The ballet begins as it plays it's prelude while it seems mine is coming to a close.
