Allegra stepped out of the car alongside Wolfgang, his tall and broad figure standing out as they walked toward the entrance of the school. As she approached the building, she observed the other students around her. Although she hadn’t had a chance to interact with them yet, she noticed that many seemed smaller and less physically developed. This contrast reminded her just how out of place she felt in her new role.
"Great," she thought, glancing around. "I’m going to spend the day surrounded by babies." A hint of sarcasm played on her smile. She knew how absurd her situation was, but she chose to find humor in it. After all, it wasn’t every day that an adult was forced to go back to elementary school, surrounded by kids who, to her, seemed barely out of preschool.
Entering the classroom, the sense of incongruity grew stronger. Looking at her classmates, Allegra realized she was significantly taller and more robust than most of them, further highlighting the difference between her current appearance and her adult identity. The small desk assigned to her felt almost laughable, like she was part of some childish game.
The first subject of the day was physics, a topic Allegra had studied in depth in her previous life. However, as she listened to the lesson on basic concepts, she found it hard to focus. The material was so elementary that she almost couldn’t take it seriously. Instead, she chose to observe her classmates and analyze the environment, knowing that this new setting offered a freedom she hadn’t experienced in a long time.
As the morning progressed, Allegra watched her classmates with curiosity. Some looked at her in awe, others with admiration, and a few with a touch of envy. Her size and presence did not go unnoticed, and while it made her feel somewhat uncomfortable, it also gave her an advantage. If there was one thing she had learned over the past two years, it was that perception was everything. She could use her appearance to remain on the sidelines while also taking in her surroundings.
Unlike sports training, where her brother Asher was always nearby, Allegra found herself here without the constant supervision of her family. It was an opportunity to breathe and explore this new world without the direct pressure from her parents. "Maybe this won’t be so bad after all," she thought with a touch of irony.
When the bell signaled recess, Allegra joined the other students outside in the yard. She leaned against a wall, watching as the others ran around and laughed. Even though it was difficult to feel part of that childish world, she decided to find humor in it. Yes, the situation was ridiculous, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t find some amusement in it.
Returning to the classroom, Allegra smiled inwardly. No matter how strange or uncomfortable this new chapter was, she was determined to face it with a mix of sarcasm and resolve. After all, she was still the same person, with the same intelligence and resourcefulness—just in a different body.
