FADING EMBERS

FADING EMBERS

Nov 17, 2024

A heart once warm is now cold as ice,
The feelings that wandered, now escaped from sight.

The eyes that were lively, full of love and care,
Are dead as a doornail, carrying revulsion and fear.

Fear of losing, what is lost already;
One realization needed, to accept it lately.

Funny it seems to be a damsel in distress,
Knight to the rescue, no sir; but a heart depressed.

The mind is going feral and wild; now seeks to hide,
Leaving me in the consequences; created in its presence, alright.

I thought black was merely a color, symbolizing the dark,
Dark? - dark, how much dark?

Darkness that I see when I walk in night,
Or the darkness that ambles within me ghosting inside?

The promises that you made, all lies; of a maze,
Maze that you crafted with disgrace.

How naive I was to act, that everything's well,
Yet you did this, telling me it won't happen next.

They say every saint has a past and sinner a future,
But you were here, in the present; a conniving seizure.

A saint by appearance, a sinner by actions,
A fiend, in true definition.

We've been told, hazardous it is to play with fire;
Dangerous it is to play with water,
Why did nobody tell?
Evil it is to play with humans.

Can ice hurt?
Not more than a cold heart does.

Can ice burn?
Not more than fire does.

So why does a cold heart ignite me,
Burning me inside out, splitting me in two?

The poem Fading Embers explores the transformation from warmth and love to coldness and despair. It delves into themes of heartbreak, betrayal, and inner turmoil, using vivid imagery to depict the emotional journey of a once lively heart turned cold. The reflection on the darkness within and the deceptive nature of appearances questions the impact of a cold heart and the deep emotional scars it leaves behind.
