Rachel
AGAIN!
Rachel froze up; again. She failed; again. Rachel could have had a field day with those spiders, they couldn’t compare to her. Rachel had a lit a small flame a few feet away from them. Joel and Daniel sat huddled with red noses sniffling. Rain pattered outside and a chill went up Rachel’s spine. It had been a few hours since the fight and her eyes started to weigh. They couldn’t stay still; more bronze creatures would surely attack them. Water continued to patter, the hum of the down pour slowed, progressively getting quieter until it stopped all together. Rachel released a yawn and Stys head lowered into the creek. He groaned and shook his head before pulling it out. Joel and Daniel lay head on each others’ shoulders. She left them a few seconds and they were sleeping.
“C’mon!” Rachel demanded standing up. The two scrambled away from each other and stood up. They all climbed out of the cave and onto Stys back.
“I could really use some more SLEP!” Daniel said his head falling down. “Me so tired!” he said groaning. Rachel scoffed at him and rested her head as Sty took to the air.
. . .
Rachel slept like a rock. No dreams, at least none that she remembered. When she woke up, she woke up panicked she didn’t know about what but behind them a giant grey dragon chased. It had white horns and four tucked-in legs. Rachels heart fell into her stomach. It had a wingspan of sixty feet, twenty feet tall while flying and eighty feet long. It had white bony spikes going down its back and large grey scales. Its snout was medium sized but ended bluntly. It had long narrow eyes with large black slits for pupils, dead focused on Sty. Daniel stood up. “A scorch wing versus a great British dragon? We’re screwed!” Smoke billowed from its nose, and it let out a soft roar, Sty talked back but his roar sounded like a chirp compared to the great British dragon. The great British dragons long neck wavered. It let out a larger roar. Daniel looked over at Stys head. Sty let out a high grumble. Warmth exuded from the great British dragons’ mouth, its jaw lowered, and flames shot out. Sty ducked below the mass of flame; Rachel bent the fire the pure amount of it. The great British dragon looked down ready to dive. Sty flew under a column of rocks and into the earth. Wind broke as the great British dragon dove straight down. Sty and the three plunged into the darkness. Small dragons shot up and the three covered their eyes. The great British dragon let out a deafening roar as the stone pillars on the ground collapsed a light flooded into the cave. All sound ceased in Rachel’s ears.
. . .
Rachel sprang up. She was on a flat cold surface. She looked around. they were in a swirling grey tornado. Hexagon platforms rose out of the ground, getting larger the further back they were. Every column had a dragon on top. Huge dragons with unfathomable sies stood tall. Wyverns, four legged, no legs, six legs. Hundreds of dragons. The biggest stood tall on a centred stone. Its narrow eyes stared down at the three. Its scales were white, it had four legs and a long thick snout. It had golden horns. It sat up proudly and like a dog. It was one hundred and fifty feet tall. Ripple of gold cascaded down its back. A large gold blade hung from its chin, protruding from in between its horns was a golden crown. There were other huge dragons surrounding them. Chinese dragons, earth dragons, sea dragons, though very few of them.
“WELCOME TO THE FOURTH DRAGON DOMAIN!” the biggest one said. His voice was deep and demanding. A slight of rasp snuck out of his mouth every time he spoke.
“OH CRAP!” Rachel said grabbing her spear. All of the dragons started to roar, it was deafening. The three collapsed to their knees and cupped their ears. Small dragons swooped down out of the sky and plucked their weapons away from them. Sty rolled onto the stage being dropped by a flock of his own kind. They choked up flames and fired them at Sty in distaste.
The dragons stopped roaring. “YOU HAVE TRESSPASSED UPON THE FOURTH DRAGON DOMAIN! HOW WILL YOU REPAY US FOR THIS SIN!” Sty let out a small groan of defeat.
“WHAT DICTATES THIS TO BE YOUR LAND!?!” Daniel shouted as loud as he could. The largest dragon lowered its head, its neck stretched far down above the crowds of dragons. “That is a foul game to be playing demi-god.” The dragon lifted its head back up and stared down judgingly. Sty clawed his way to his feet and narrowed his eyes, he looked up at the king and roared as loud as he could. Rachel looked over at his disappointed counterparts and their eyes were dead focused on Sty, like they were ready to pounce.
“Pathetic!” the large dragon pointed its head to the sky. Damiel looked frightened as well as Joel but suddenly Daniel started to speak: “The tale of the dragon; once the earth was roamed by creatures, small and big, vicious, and caring. Ogres and trolls. But they were all ruled by the dragons. Intelligent and fair.” The big dragon looked down at them. “And then along came the humans, weak and defenceless. We pitied your kind, so we gave you all shelter. But of course, that was not enough for the weak little humans, the GREEDY LITTLE HUMANS!!! The dragons granted them magic and the humans revolted, the human drove the dragons insane and chased them across the earth!”
“But that wasn’t us!” Joel snapped. “The demi-gods tried to help the dragons!” Sty started to flap his wings and wag his tail, making groans, sighs, and roars.
“Fair enough little one, but I still want a show!”
