As the days went by, Allegra, though still feeling a bit out of place, began to adapt to the school routine. Over time, she made an effort to integrate with the other students, joining their conversations during recess and breaks. Initially, it was challenging, but little by little, she started getting to know her classmates better and becoming part of their chats.
It was during these conversations that Allegra began to notice something beyond the standard lessons. She overheard the other kids talking about topics that piqued her curiosity—recent events, news, and technological advancements. There were many words she didn’t completely understand, but the excitement with which the kids spoke about something new at school caught her attention. The word informatics was unfamiliar to her, yet the enthusiasm surrounding it intrigued her even more.
It wasn’t until they were taken to a special classroom that Allegra understood what it was all about. The informatics they mentioned turned out to be a room filled with desktop computers—those big, heavy monitors that Felicity hadn’t seen in ages. The machines became the focal point for all the students. While it was the first time many of them had ever used a computer, Allegra saw an invaluable opportunity in this.
When she finally had the chance to sit in front of one of the computers, Allegra found herself facing a machine that, though primitive compared to what she had known in her previous life, represented a gateway to understanding this world. The technology, though basic, offered her a chance to investigate whether the reality she was in was truly so different from the one she had left behind.
As she explored the computer, Allegra discovered that this world wasn’t so different from the one she remembered. Major tech companies existed, though some had slightly different names or variations. This discovery gave her a glimmer of hope: if the companies and technology were similar, perhaps her country existed here too—just under a different name or in another location on the map.
This realization stirred a mix of hope and anxiety within her as she thought about her parents. Before all this, Felicity had been studying abroad, far from them. If this world was so similar to hers, maybe her parents were here too, in a country that might exist under another name. The idea of being completely alone in this new reality terrified her, but the possibility that her parents might also be here gave her strength. This hope drove her to keep exploring, determined to understand her situation better and perhaps find a way to reunite with them.
At the end of the computer class, while the other kids were still trying to familiarize themselves with the machines, Allegra leaned back in her chair, a small smile crossing her face. Though she was trapped in the body of a 12-year-old, her adult mind saw far beyond what the others could comprehend. She wasn’t merely surviving in this world—she was beginning to understand it, using its resources to uncover more about her situation and, just maybe, find a way to reunite with those she loved.
