Like any other day, the weather was mild and the sun shined brightly as the birds of the heavenly realm fluttered their wings and chirped from the eves of the glistening wisteria trees. Time flowed continuously and everyday that one Angeli stopped by the crystal terrace —surrounded by a forest of ever blooming purple wisteria— within the sheer infinite fields of greenery, whose location is none other than the garden of Eden.
As he settled down on the finely ornamented bench made of Zircon and mauve wood he gazed into the distance of the towering trees, drifting off into his thoughts.
«Every day is the same. It’s always peaceful and quiet around the wisteria forest with not a soul trespassing. At least here I’m able to rest and enjoy what little time I have for myself without my mother bothering me.»
He proceeded to pull out a scroll from his pocket, labeled ‘Inventions of the mortal realm’ and began to study its contents.
This particular Angeli deeply enjoyed reading during his free time, especially stories from different worlds. As he read about the history of humankind he could not help it but wonder how mortals might be living today. Afterall their species consisted for eons and evolved from time to time.
His curiosity towards humans and earth knew no bounds.
Though in the end all his knowledge only derived from books and scrolls Uriel collected within the wide shelves of the divine archive; not once has he seen the secular world of his own —though he had possessed a strong desire to.
He continued following the black inked letters imprinted upon the scroll with his steel blue eyes as one particular passage caught his attention.
“This is rather intriguing”, he chuckles,”so mortals invented devices for distance communication and they started out as two tin cans connected by a thread? How very amusing.”
Humans have made all kinds of different gadgets and machinery to help them with their day to day life. The telephone was one of them. It started out during the 16th century of the Gregorian calendar with merely a few cans and thread, later steel pipes were used to transmit sound waves through paths unable to be crossed by a line of thread and another 2 centuries later they were able to communicate with electric devices called a telegraph.
The progression of their technology hasn’t stopped and soon they were able to produce wireless telephones they could take anywhere they wanted —not bound to a specific area.
His interest piqued when he came across words about said devices; considering Angeli had no need for physical implements to communicate with one another. What they possessed were telepathic channels to convey information across the 7 sectors which made other methods to converse over distance utterly useless within their realm.
He continued his endeavor for hours until the horizon was dyed crimson —dusk had slowly approached. Stretching his long cream-white wings he closed the scroll, looking up at the blossoms.
A heavy breeze swept through the crystal terrace accompanied by the crisp sound of wings scurrying through air.
“Hibriel, there you are! You know Uriel has been looking for you for quite a while now. But here you are silently sitting in this secluded area reading your strange books”, a lovely and gentle voice spouted.
He stared at the restless girl in front of him that created a fuss over something he found rather insignificant. Even her fast approach was unpleasant since the gust that her widespread feathers created ended up disheveling not only his wavy platinum hair but also scattered the papers laid out on the table.
“You really don’t need to create such an uproar over this. I’m aware that my mother is looking for me. I mean is there any time she isn’t? After all, she comes to me for every little matter … That’s precisely why, Ariel, I prefere secluded spots where that scatterbrained woman cannot find me that easily”, Hibriel said; slightly condescending.
He was visibly annoyed but still tried to keep his demeanor polite —although he couldn't help it but to jokingly send a menacing glare directed to Ariel.
She was taken aback seeing his expression and pouted. Helpless as he was against that distortion of Ariel’s face he could not help it and invited her to a cup of magnolia tea. Ariel reluctantly accepted the offer from her peer and took a seat across from Hibriel.
The girl sighed. “What is it even that you were reading about before I found you here?”
A light filled with exhilaration lit up within Hibriel’s eyes. “Oh, do you wanna know more about it? I was reading a scroll describing the history of all the inventions that humans made across the millennia. The section I read about before you interrupted me depicted the invention of their communication devices. From when the first apparatus was created to how it was made, which materials they used and how the development of new more complex ma—”
“Wait, wait hold up. You don’t need to give me all the details, that’s waaaaay too much. I really am not interested in that kind of information. I mean I do appreciate you sharing things you are passionate about but we might wanna draw a line here. It’s getting late, you should really go see Uriel now. Let’s just finish the tea and head off.” Hibriel’s rambles have screwed up to her head.
«I really can’t take that anymore…»
“Ah… sorry I didn’t mean to inconvenience you; you are right we should probably wrap up now. Anyway, how did you find me here?”
She stared at him unimpressed, her lips pressed into a thin line —she was not far away from laughing. “You do know that I am the feathered wing of nature and we are here in the garden of Eden do you? For me it’s the easiest task in the heavenly realm to locate someone within my own territory, filled with plants. Pff you really are funny sometimes.”
Hibriel was rendered speechless.
“Forget it, we should head off now. I will ask one of the garden attendants to take the cups away.”
The day was nigh its end, Ariel flew back to her quarters and said her farewells to Hibriel who has yet to meet up with Uriel. He spread his wings at the base of his waist and soared into the skies.
The destination was the Bureau of Wisdom near the Divine Archive.
Considering the late hour and Hibriel’s belated arrival, he could only imagine the attitude with which Uriel might be greeting him. Obviously he tried to avoid the hassle of entertaining his mothers demands. Not only has she often tasked Hibriel with utterly senseless assignments like cleaning the rooftop of the archive but she also summoned him regularly to cry his ears full and whine about her daily life like a pathetic, overworked, middle aged woman within a midlife crisis.
Surely the Seraphim of fire and wisdom has been a very dignified person on the outside. Truth is that the very same Angeli has the characteristic of a free spirited young adult frustrated with society. Of course Uriel is far older than her appearance might have suggested which is only complicating the situations she created. Specifically for Hibriel it has been difficult to deal with her; bearing in mind Uriel was his parent.
While the cool wind brushed past his figure soaring through the darkness, his gaze swept up to the clear night sky —dipped in the ethereal light of the not yet filled moon.
“Beautiful”
Covering his face with the soft feathers of the small wings rooted on the sides of his head; he protected himself from the wind and enhanced his flying speed, almost breaking the sound barrier as he shot through the air.
The corners of his lips slightly rose as he continued the flight towards his impending doom.
