Skye would encounter Nova later that morning, working on making everyone’s lunch. It didn’t take her long to sense the young angel dragon near the galley door, turning around to glance at her with a curious look on her face, as if she was wondering what was going through her mind.
“You know you can come in if you want? I’m not busy.”
She speaks up, speaking softly with a friendly smile towards her.
"Oh uh...sorry! I..didn't mean to snap you out of your groove."
Skye replies, apologizing as she spotted her peeking in.
Nova shook her head, and spoke with a warm tone.
“Nah, no need to apologize. I'm not disturbed, really. I saw ya in the doorway, so I figured you might want something. What brings you here?”
"Nothing in particular, just making sure I get familiar with everyone in the crew, really."
“Ah, I see. It's a good idea to be familiar with everyone in this crew. And here I was, thinking I did something wrong.”
Nova replies, chuckling warmly.
“I guess I got nervous for nothing. You can take a seat though! I'm just preparing brunch for everyone. Do you mind if we chat while I work?”
Skye shook her head as she sat at the island table.
"Absolutely. I don’t mind.”
She watched as Nova went over a few different pieces of paper she had pinned to the corkboard; all of them had every crew member’s listed preferences of food, along with the ingredients needed to make them, and seemed to have it all down pat.
“I’m curious, but what do you know about me in particular?”
"Well..I've been told you're Tommy's twin sister, who likes to do yoga in her free time when she's not cooking. You also keep different types of crystals around for good luck, and I think that’s pretty neat!”
She explains.
“Aye..sounds pretty on-par for me. I’m guessing my twin brother talks a lot, doesn’t he?”
Nova sheepishly chuckles.
“Yeah, he yaps quite a bit about you.”
“Sounds like him, since that’s what twins do. My little nerd…But, y’know, there’s a lot more than just my interests in yoga and crystals!”
“I figured as much, but..that’s all I pretty much do know about you.”
Nova laughs and nods, as she grabs a pan and places it over the fire on the stove.
“Oh, I see. Well, that means I can tell you more about myself, huh?”
“Well, you're right about my yoga obsession. I love yoga. But something that not everyone knows about me is that I'm very flexible and agile. That's why I like yoga so much. It's a lot of fun. Besides yoga, I have many other hobbies too! Like making jewelry, singing...I love singing, but my brother begs to differ.”
“Was yoga something you majored in?”
Nova shook her head.
“Unfortunately it’s not the type of major you’d find in universities. I actually majored in Athletic Training! Yoga...has a lot of good attributes and benefits. It's relaxing, it's calming, it helps with flexibility, and it helps with concentration and focus. But I guess something I'm not great at explaining is how I got into yoga. I'm more of a 'demonstrate than tell' kind of person. Maybe I’ll give you a yoga lesson sometime.”
Skye’s ears perked up at the offer, her tail wagging a little excitedly.
“I wouldn’t mind. I’ve never done Yoga before but I’m willing to try, honestly!”
Nova smiled, enjoying her enthusiasm and seeing that shy side of her go away.
“Though, I’m more curious about you. What are your hobbies?”
“O-Oh! Um...I do take an interest in drawing and stuff...but I wouldn't say I'm good at it though."
She would respond, glancing down at the journal she had in her hands.
Nova glanced down at the journal and smiled warmly.
“Now, I find that hard to believe. I'm betting you're quite good at it, you're just being humble. May I see a few of your drawings? If you don't mind, of course.”
Skye nods her head, handing it to her. As Nova glanced through every page, she’d see extremely detailed art that accompanied all the detailed writings of her adventures leading up to her being found as a stowaway on the airship. Skye could tell Nova was studying each and every one of them, her face and eyes filled with genuine awe and curiosity..especially as she came across the pages she doodled up about each of the crew members.
“This...this is amazing. You really are gifted with drawing. Your art skills are wonderful, I love how much detail you put into each and every doodle.”
Skye would rub her arm shyly, not used to being given compliments on her artwork.
“Awh..thanks, Nova, I appreciate it.”
“It’s no problem at all! I love that you drew most of us too. Each one is so expressive and tells the story of who the crew members are wonderfully. You capture the essence of everyone extremely well.”
Nova replies, smiling widely, seeming very captivated by her work.
“Which reminds me…”
Skye glances at her as she lays down her journal, and then pulls out a sketchbook from one of the kitchen drawers, wanting to share her artwork with the young angel dragon as well.
“I’ll let you look through mine in return, if you’d like.”
“Oh absolutely! I would love to!”
Skye says, as she opens her sketchbook; it is filled with many designs for future paintings. Many of the sketches that resided in this book were mostly landscapes and scenes, and conceptual art for various jewelry pieces and accessories she planned on creating later on. Skye could tell they’re clearly planned out well, with detailed notes and measurements to go with them.
“I know I usually just focus on cooking, but I love drawing and doing design work, too! My book’s just mostly conceptual sketches for future things I want to create.”
Nova would say a little shy as Skye glanced through her sketchbook the same way she did with hers; with genuine awe, and curiosity.
“Well I think they’re absolutely amazing. Maybe we can paint and make stuff together sometime!”
Skye responds with genuine enthusiasm, excited to see someone share the same hobby as her.
Nova laughs softly and smiles, adoring her enthusiasm.
As a means to escape from her past, a young dragon named Skye stows away on the only place she knows people won't find her: An airship called The Pelican, owned by a famous team of adventurers called the Horizon Flyers. Fortunately, Tommy, the steward of the airship, ends up finding her hiding away in the the storage compartment of the airship. She braces for the worst, only to be caught off by his kind attitude, and provides her a place to stay instead of hiding away from everyone.
Over time, Skye befriends the rest of the crew, eventually allowing herself to bond with them over their mutual love for adventure, exploration, and each other's company. She now seeks a better and brighter future for herself, far away from the place she once used to call home.
Short story I wanted to write. Will only be 10 chapters long.
