Detective Benson sits down and looks up at her pin board. The Minoan Murderer has taken another victim. This time it was Danielle Ortega, a 24 year old female, with residence in Fairview. She was taken from a bar fifteen miles from her home.
There is an established profile for most of the previous victims: all were in their 20s, all were from Silverbrook or the surrounding towns, all were taken from crowded places, all of them were out alone, and each abduction takes place a few months after the last; just like Danielle. And also, just like Danielle, there are no leads.
Detective Benson stares at the oldest missing persons flier on her board. The first murder is always the sloppiest, yet there were no leads either. The young girl was only realized to be a Minoan victim after another detective was going through case files after the first two confirmed Minoan murders. Her age is wrong, and she was taken from her yard, but the rest of the M.O. is correct. He sent out his cyphers, kept her for one week, then killed her with one shot out in the woods not too far from where she was taken.
It was thought to be an isolated incident. A case of revenge on the parents. Now it’s suspected she was a relative or a neighbor, someone he could more easily take and keep to try out his methods on. It was another two years before he tried again, this time appearing to pick strangers with only vague requirements.
Detective Benson rubs her forehead. At this point she just has to wait for more information. She has one week to try and solve this before the Minoan Murderer takes his next life.
