Chapter 3: shadows of Discipline (arc)

Chapter 3: shadows of Discipline (arc)

Dec 04, 2024

The sharp sound of slicing steel cuts through the air, followed by a heavy thud and he feels a shadowy figure behind him with his ability. Ren’s eyes snap open to see the demon’s severed hand and head falling to the ground. Standing behind the now-lifeless corpse is a woman—a figure cloaked in white, her long, snowy hair flowing in the wind. Her expression is calm, almost cold, as she holds a blade glinting with an ethereal light.

The remaining five attackers hesitate, their confidence wavering. One of the criminals snarls, “Who the hell are you?”

The woman doesn’t answer. Instead, she moves.

In a blur of motion, she closes the distance to the next demon, her blade a streak of white. The demon barely has time to react before her sword arcs upward, severing its arm. It roars in pain, swinging its other arm in a desperate attempt to retaliate. She sidesteps gracefully, her movements precise and fluid, and with a single, clean strike, she decapitates the creature.

The criminals shout in anger, charging at her together. One swings a bat laced with nails, another lunges with a dagger, while the third pulls out a pistol and fires.

The woman weaves between the attacks effortlessly. The bat whistles past her as she ducks, the dagger missing her by inches. She spins, her blade slicing through the gunman’s arm before he can fire the arm holding the gun falls on the ground the gun men falls on his back n she also breaks the hands off the criminals who attacked her before with the dagger and bat shattering thier bones beyond repair n then the other two try to run away but she bends down to pick up and throws two pebbels of the debris she found on the ground on their legs making them fall on thier ground on this face as two hunters come n arrest the criminals

The woman weaves between the attacks effortlessly, her movements precise and fluid. The bat whistles past her as she ducks, the dagger slicing the air inches from her. She spins with lethal grace, her blade flashing as it slices cleanly through the gunman's arm before he can fire. His arm, still clutching the weapon, falls to the ground, and the man collapses backward in agony.

Without hesitation, she turns to the other attackers. With swift, precise strikes, she shatters the hands of the criminals wielding the bat and dagger, their bones crushed beyond repair. Cries of pain echo as they drop to the ground, incapacitated.

Two of the criminals, realizing the futility of their assault, turn and attempt to flee. Calmly, she bends down, picks up two small pebbles from the debris at her feet, and flicks them with pinpoint accuracy. The pebbles strike the fleeing men’s legs, sending them sprawling face-first into the dirt.

As the two criminals groan in pain, two hunters arrive on the scene, weapons drawn and ready. They swiftly secure the defeated attackers, binding their hands and ensuring they cannot escape. The hunters nod their thanks to the woman, acknowledging her skill and efficiency. She stands tall amidst the chaos, her expression calm and unreadable, her blade gleaming faintly in the fading light.

She walks toward him, her steps slow and deliberate. He lies on the ground, sighing and breathing heavily, his strength nearly gone. As she approaches, he struggles to lift his head, his eerie eyes meeting hers.

“Who... are... you?” he manages to mutter, his voice barely audible.

She kneels beside him, her expression softening. Placing a hand gently on his shoulder, she gazes at him with a quiet kindness.

“You have done enough,” she says, her voice steady and reassuring. She pats him lightly and, with a gentle smile, adds, “Young hero.”

His eyes widen slightly at her words, a spark of pride and determination flickering within them. The compliment brings a glimmer of light to his exhausted face, as though her words alone could heal wounds unseen.

He collapses there, and everyone around looks worried. A hunter accompanying the woman kneels beside him, using healing abilities.

After a moment, the hunter remarks, “Wow, ma’am, it seems like his ability was already healing him to some extent. It feels as though first aid has already been applied.”

The woman, surprised, responds, “Oh, really? That’s incredible.”

Later, he wakes up in a hospital bed, his voice weak as he mutters, “Where... am I?”

He feels stronger than before, though still groggy. A doctor enters the room, conversing with the woman who saved him. “He seems to be healing incredibly fast. He might be able to get up soo—”

The doctor stops mid-sentence, his jaw dropping as he notices the patient sitting up.

Rushing over in amazement, he exclaims, “This is unbelievable! He was on death’s doorstep, and now, after just an hour of rest, he’s almost fully recovered."

He adds "At this rate, he might not even need a full day to heal completely.”

The woman nods, then addresses the doctor. “Thank you, Doctor. I’d like to talk to him for a while.”

She takes a seat beside the patient and smiles. “Hey, what’s your name, kid?”

Flustered, he replies indignantly, though his tone carries a hint of childishness, “Argh, I’m twenty-five, not a kid!”

She smirks, teasing him with a playful nudge. “Really? You sure don’t act like it.”

Rolling his eyes, he shoots back sarcastically, “What about you, huh? What are you, sixty or something, Auntie?”

Her expression shifts into mock anger as she lightly smacks his head. “Sixty?! Watch your mouth!”

He chuckles, rubbing the spot. “Hey, don’t hit me so hard, oldie.”

She gives him another playful whack before sighing. “Fine, enough jokes. I’m Eira Valen.” Her tone turns serious as she continues. “I used my detection skill earlier, and now I know what your ability is.”

His eyes light up with excitement. “Really? That’s awesome! What is it—”

Before he can finish, she smacks him again, cutting him off. “Shut up and let me finish first!”

He gave a mock salute. "Okay, Auntie."

She sighed, ignoring his antics, and started reading the report. "Your ability has... five different powers, Ren."

"How do you know my name?" he interrupted, dragging out the last word dramatically.

She smacked him on the head. "Shut up. I'm an S-Ranker, almost at SS."

"Okay, Auntie," he repeated, grinning sarcastically.

With another exasperated sigh, she continued, "Anyway, as I was saying, I'll read your abilities. First, Physical Ability—it enhances your strength. Second, Aetherial Sense—it lets you sense the space around you. Third, Gravity Manipulation. Fourth, Space Manipulation. And fifth..." She paused, glancing up at him. "It's too strong to be fully identified, but it has the potential to distort the very fabric of reality."

In the sprawling industrial world of Nethara, where ancient technology and remnants of the Nether's dark influence blend into a volatile society, Ren leads a quiet, unassuming life. A 25-year-old mechanic with a knack for fixing the unfixable, he was adopted as a child by the kind but gruff owner of a mechanic shop. Ren's days are spent among the hum of machinery, the scent of oil, and the camaraderie of a modest but honest life.

But Nethara is not a peaceful world. Ever since its mysterious fusion with the Nether thousands of years ago, the land has been plagued by strange phenomena, supernatural anomalies, and those who exploit them.

One fateful evening, as Ren walks home through the labyrinthine streets of the city, a group of ruthless criminals ambushes him. Their motives are unclear, but their intent is deadly. Cornered and overwhelmed, something within Ren awakens—a force unlike anything he could have imagined. His superpower manifests, bending the very fabric of reality and leaving him shaken, yet alive.

As Ren begins to unravel the truth behind his newfound abilities, he discovers a connection to Nethara’s dark and chaotic past. With shadowy forces seeking to control him and his mysterious powers, Ren must navigate a web of secrets, alliances, and dangers. The line between friend and foe blurs as he embarks on a journey that will redefine his understanding of himself and the warped world he calls home.
