Blood Reign

Chapter 1 ~ Dynah

Chapter 1 ~ Dynah

Jan 07, 2025

Hoot. Hoot

Click.

Dynah turned her head from the well-worn book in her lap to the sounds coming from the reddish-colored owl sat perched outside the closed window. In front of the owl, lay a rolled piece of paper tied with a string to its leg. Dynah tilted her head and squinted her eyes at the beautiful bird, which repeated the same motion against the glass (Click), and tilted its head down to the paper at its feet.

With a sigh, Dynah put her book down on a nearby table. She opened the latch, keeping the window closed. The owl pushed the window open the rest of the way and pressed its head into Dynah's hand.

"Yes, hello Heart," Dynah said to the bird as the corners of her mouth ticked up a bit.

She rolled her eyes softly and scratched the owl on its head cradled in her hand, grabbing the rolled up paper with her free hand.

"Ember, it is the 20th century. Why is my brother still sending mail through you?" Dynah asked the Owl.

Heart's response was to flutter her wings, give a small hoot and jump out the window, flying off into the night.

Dynah closed and re-latched the window with ease, not bothering to look outside and see if anyone noticed Heart from the outside world. With the window shut again, Dynah made her way over to a desk in the corner of the library. Tilting her head slightly as she walked, she heard what was likely a party going on downstairs. The party sounded joyous, for now. Dynah knew better than to expect the party to stay that way. Parties like this one were happening more and more, especially since Eunice had arrived in the city.

She shook off those oncoming thoughts and turned her focus to the still-rolled paper in her hand. Finding a pair of scissors on the desk, Dynah made quick work of the string, unrolled the paper and read:.

'Munu,

I know this message is unexpected, as we haven't shared words in years. I believe something dire will happen to us, to our kind, should we not intervene, and soon.

I've heard word that those who work from the hidden place are displeased with our kind, despite your efforts. Could it be that with Father gone for so long the others have grown lax and despondent?

~yours concerned

Marcus Kane'

Dynah read the note several times, trying to wrap her mind around what her brother was telling her.

AHHHHH!

An ear-piercing scream stopped Dynah's third read through. More screams met her ears, one after the other.

Dynah neatly folded and shoved the letter into her jeans pocket and made her way out of the library. Once through the hall and out the front door of the apartment, she decided against the elevator, with the noises coming from it. Instead she walked farther down the hall to the stairwell.

Taking an unneeded breath, centering herself, as she placed her hand on the railing. Dynah jumped up onto the railing and stood up straight turning to face the door before stepping backwards. Free falling down, she twisted her head slightly and reached out for the railing of the second floor's stair railing, bringing her body to an abrupt halt.

She pulled herself up and over the railing with ease, the mouthwatering smell of blood striking her senses as she stood. The closer she got to the door the less mouthwatering it became, it became overwhelming pungent even more so once the door was open. The vampires on the other side were practically dripping in blood.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

As she took in everything Dynah could feel a slight tugging in the back of her mind, coming from nearby. Her eyes danced around the room, only pausing for a moment on Eunice as she stood in the center of the room, feasting on a young man. Eunice wasn't what was pulling at Dynah's mind, she scanned the scene. Finally her eyes landed on a young girl being fed on, aggressively, in the corner.

The tugging stopped.

The girl's once-pounding heart stilled as Dynah locked eyes with her, the light faded from the once sparkling blue.

"No." Dynah whispered, rushing forward to the still warm body of the girl. The vampire who drained the girl paid no attention to Dynah, already having moved on to look around and find another body to feed from.

Dynah glanced over, seeing that not ten feet away from her sat Leandro. Just sitting. Not caring. She recognized the feasting vampire as a member of Leandro's bloodline. Yet, Leandro did nothing. He did nothing as Dynah held the body of the one who reached for her with her blood. A call of the blood so strong, it meant Dynah felt her potential to turn her. To invite her into her own bloodline. Dynah has no clue as to why the girl is even here, she seems young and mostly innocent.

Leandro could see the effect this girl was having on her, and still, he did nothing. Eunice did nothing, she glanced back at her still holding the same man, doing nothing but feeding her own thirst. Her father's second and third did nothing. Nothing, but let it happen.

Slowly and carefully she lowered the girl, her eyes locking on the vampire who’d put the young woman in this state.

Dynah growled, deep and gutturally. Crimson power seeped through her. Veins turned from a false living blue to dark red. Before the vampire could grab ahold of another person to sink their fangs into, Dynah pounced. She moved with the speed one received from walking the earth over two thousand years.

The vampire's death may be quick, but Dynah would make certain it would be so excruciating it would be felt into the afterlife.

She wrapped one hand around the vampire's neck, fingers flexing as she threw him into the wall. The wall left with the impression of his body as he fell in a heap to the ground. Dynah was at his side before he was to his knees, her hands on his temples, fingers splayed along both sides of his face.

A caress of death.

She plunged her thumbs into his eyes, the pressure causing him to scream and fight against her. Her face close to his, "How bout no?" she growled. She dug her thumbs into the screaming vampire's eyeballs, blood pouring out as she did.

Bending slightly, Dynah placed her foot against his chest and pressed. With his head between her hands held firmly and pressing her foot harder, wrenching his head off of his body. His decapitated body flew back against the wall, head still held in her hand.

Dynah's face becomes blank, eyes turning crimson, red veins rise under her skin.

Dynah's hands go lax.

Splat

***

No one moves after the initial splat of the head hitting the floor. This gives Dynah time to calmly step back away from the decapitated head and body it was once attached to. Moving at a casual pace she turns around to look at everyone. Eyes dancing around the room, registering each face.

Leandro and Eunice make a quick exit from the room, probably recognizing what was to come.

"I would suggest running," Dynah says, tilting her head slightly to the side.

Before Dynah has finished speaking several vampires, older ones, have made a run for the doors. Though it seems no one else takes the chance offered to them.

Dynah rolls her eyes and takes a step to the side, reaching towards the nearest vampire.

Squelch. Her hand slides into the vampire's chest, gripping onto their heart.

Splotch. Dynah pulls her hand back out, heart in her grasp.

Thud. The vampire's body drops, their eyes hollow.

"Alrighty then," Dynah says, evil smile spreading across her face.

She the proceeds to repeat the process, the same as the previous vampire. One right after the other, bodies and hearts dropping creating a pile on the ground. Several try to leave the room, but Dynah moves faster and far move swift. The only beings in the room left with their hearts are the scared and fear frozen humans. Dynah reaches down to one of the bodies and wipes her hands off on their shirt, silk, such a shame she ruined it.

With a sigh Dynah projects her voice, "You can come back in now."

From the door she'd fled through Eunice enters the room, hands held up in a form of surrender.

"Make them forget, get them healed up. Return them to the places that they belong, but do not kill them." Dynah says, her eyes narrowing toward the platinum haired woman.

Her eyes glanced over the humans, some were severally drained of blood. They'd need medical assistance.

"Yes Princess," Eunice says, nodding with a slight bow towards Dynah.

Dynah turns away before rolling her eyes. She makes her way to the small blonde that shouldn't have been there. She weighs practically nothing as Dynah lifts her, and begins to walk towards the exit.

As she is walking away Dynah can hear as Leandro enters the room, and begins attending to the humans. She chooses to ignore him, for now.

Out in the night air Dynah can feel the blood on her skin and clothes. And she can hear the ever so slightest thump of a heartbeat. The girl is on the brink of death, but not quite dead. Dynah changes directions and heads for a cafe she knows. It is twenty-four hours, the owner is one of her bloodline. It will be safe there to help the girl with her slowing heart beat.

"Let's get going little one, not much time I'm afraid," Dynah says to the unconscious girl.

*

It takes a few minutes to walk there, not wanting to accidentally snap the girls neck from running. Dynah send out a pulse through her blood, feeling a returning one. As she nears the cafe the door is held open.

"Mistress Kane," the vampire holding the door open bows slightly. His eyes go wide at the sight of her covered in blood, and a young lady cradled in her arms.

"Elisabeth," Dynah says, voice carrying as she takes the girls towards a table.

Others quickly clear the table. A sweater is put forward so that the young blondes head is propped up slightly off the hard table.

"Sire," Elisabeth says appearing at Dynah's side. Her brown hair floating about as she'd run to Dynah as quickly as she could.

Elisabeth places her hand on Dynah's shoulder.

"You should get cleaned up, There is to much blood on you," Elisabeth says, "We'll take care of her for you."

Several Elisabeth makes a small cut on her hand and places it on the girls arm. A couple of others step forward, a woman and a man, neither are vampires. But they each place a hand on her other arm and begin to chant. Prolonging her mortal life for a few more minutes.

Begrudgingly Dynah heads for the bathroom to clean up as much of the blood as she can. As much as she doesn't wish to admit it, the blood on her hands and arms could interfere with transformation. Immediately she goes to the sink, taking her outer shirt off, leaving her in a camisole and bra. Somehow the blood didn't seep through the t-shirt to much.

With hot water and hand soap Dynah scrubs at her face, hands and arms. As she is rinsing the soap off she looks up at the mirror for the first time, taking herself in. She rests a hand on either side of the sink and closes her eyes, and releases a heavy sigh. The last hour flashes threw her mind. Mentally she counts, and images fly threw.

67.

She'd torn threw 67 vampires as if they were nothing. As if they meant nothing. Because in that moment they had meant nothing to her. For Dynah counting them and knowing how many she'd killed in minutes turned her stomach. She had managed to kill more vampires in 8 minutes than vampires were in her entire bloodline, including the one about to join it.

Dynah shakes her head and goes back to cleaning herself up, she only has a few minutes after all.

Before she leaves the bathroom puts a stopper in the sink and lets it fill with hot water, she then places her blood covered shirt inside. Maybe they'll be able to save it. Maybe not.

Drying her hands she walks back into the main area of the cafe.

As she steps out into the main area is when she realizes that there are a large amount of vampires there. She can tell that some of them are older vampires and some of them are younger. She shrugs her shoulders and walks to the table. Someone has placed a clean and quite sharp looking dagger on top of the table next to the blonde. Elisabeth still stands steady.

"I'm ready, please move to the side, and others please step back." Dynah says, taking the place of Elisabeth.

She wipes Elisabeth's blood from where she'd held it against the girls arm. Both witches stop their chanting and step back.

Dynah reaches for the dagger, and uses it swiftly to slice into her arm. She makes sure to coat the top of the blade in her blood. Quick swishes of her hand and she has drawn a symbol on the girls forehead. Dynah hands the blade off to Elisabeth, whom happy takes it.

Gently at first Dynah rests her wrist against the girls mouth, letting her blood drip. She nods to Elisabeth who has moved to the other side.

Elisabeth then begins to massage the girls throat, to help it relax and swallow the blood.

When Dynah's blood stops flowing she holds her arm out and some slices it open again, so that she can place it against the girls mouth again. This time Dynah leans forward, fangs extending raising the girls arm and bites draining her of blood.. They continue like this until the symbol glows and fades away as if never drawn on the girls forehead.

Dynah quickly releases her arm, wiping any blood from her face.

"Thank you," Dynah says to those around her.

She gently moves a piece of hair from the girls face with a soft look.

"Please take her down stairs to complete her change, and then we'll discuss what is happening here." Dynah says, looking up at Elisabeth crossing her arms
