Apr 13, 2025

RING!RING!RING!RING!

"Ajay! Open the door and check!! It might be the postman!!", shouted Sulekha.

"Ajay!! Where are you wake up!!", shouted Sulekha.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

"Didi I am coming!!", shouted and replied Ajay.

He opens the door.

"Oh! Uncle Rajesh!! Do we have a post today?", asked Ajay.

"Yes, Ajay you have a post from Shimla", replied the postman Ajay.

"Do you know from who this is?", asked Ajay.

"I don't know that son. Did Vikrant return?", asked the postman.

"Oh! No Rajesh uncle he is yet to return!", replied Ajay.

"Okay, son!", said the postman.

"Uncle, what is your age?", asked Ajay.

"Oh I am 56 years old son", replied the postman.

"You are becoming 14 this year right son?", asked the postman.

"Yeah uncle", replied Ajay.

"Be a good boy and grow son", said the postman.

"Uncle I watched the movie you recommended, Prithviraj Samrat!", said Ajay.

"I liked the moment when he said to come and fight in the Rajadhani", said Ajay.

"Yeah! That fight in the Rajadhani is good son", replied the postman.

"Then I am going, son. Be healthy", said the postman.

"Yes uncle", replied Ajay.

He closes the door.

RING! RING! RING! RING!

He opens the door again.

"Oh! Ajay is that you!!", asks someone.

"Oh! Uncle Balram!", replied Ajay.

"You have grown a lot. Where is your didi?", asked Balram.

"She is in the kitchen!", replied Ajay.

Balram enters the house and walks to the kitchen.

"Sulekha!!", called Balram.

"Bhaiya!!", shouted Sulekha.

"Sulekha! Where is Vikrant?", asked Balram.

"He hasn't returned", replied Sulekha.

"Where is he?", asked Balram.

"Bhaiya I want to tell you something", said Sulekha.

"What is it Sulekha?", asked Balram.

"It is...", Sulekha muttered.

"What is it? I will obtain anything for my little sister", said Balram.

"The next year....." Sulekha muttered.

"Now common why are you blushing my sister?", asked Balram.

"Next year..... you will be...uncle", said Sulekha.

Balram stood there thunder struck and tears rolled down from his eyes.

"Is it true my sister?", asked Balram.

"Yes Bhaiya", replied Sulekha.

"Where is he?! I am going to drag him out of the camp!!!", replied Balram.

He wipes the tears from his eyes.

"Have you told Pitaji and Mataji yet?", asked an overjoyed Balram.

"No... I will tell them when I reach Shimla", replied Sulekha.

"Have you told Vikrant?", asked Balram.

"I called him here to tell him," Sulekha replied in a light voice. She blushed.

"I remember the old times. Vikrant was only 16 and came with a small 9-year-old boy on his back. It was snowing heavily on the streets of Shimla. You ran to the road after seeing Nani and Nana. That vehicle just came and hit you. I always used to notice the beggars sitting on the streets. But I found something else from these two. The moment you were hit by that vehicle. He took his brother on his back and came running to you. We weren't able to reach in time. He came and first of all checked your pulse. We didn't know anything about what to do in the accidents. That boy with his brother on the back used his whole strength and performed CPR on you. It was cold, but he still went on. Nana and Nani were crying. I was so perplexed, that the boy mustering all his strength shouted to call an ambulance. Using his every ounce of power he did it. And then with his efforts and God's blessing you coughed blood and opened your eyes. The ambulance arrived and later took you to the hospital. I was in the ambulance. I told the doctor what the boy did, and he was astonished by hearing that. He said to me that the boy wasn't any ordinary one. He was a treasure. I went running there and inside the cardboard shed, the boy was sleeping. He was tired and his brother was slowly patting his head. I called Saheb ji and told him to come with the car. He arrived there. I took the boy in my hands and his brother. And in the car went to the house", said Balram.

"I remember all of that", replied Sulekha with tears rolling down from her eyes.

RING! RING! RING! RING!

"Sulekha!! Ajay!! I have arrived!!", shouted someone from the door.

(NOTE: Baihya means brother. Pitaji and Mataji mean mother and father. Nani and Nana are maternal and paternal grandparents.)
