While the adrenaline slowly subsides, you decide to check out your latest reading assignment from Esō. The heavy literature is bookmarked with an old letter. When you open it to the marked pages, you're pleased to find the letters already settling into readable words.
Culinary Comparisons
The six nations and countless vampiric states of the Western Continent exhibit a rainbow of flavors to pleasure the tongues of travelers. To those fortunate enough to traverse this globe as I have, your very soul will remain incomplete and you may indeed be damned to eternal pain and misery and suffering and dying and having your intestined violently ripped from your body and having your head crushed 'neath the hoof of the Horse Prince if you do not grant yourself the opportunity to indulge in the local treats wherever your sails take you. I will not be discussing the vampiric states here, as their inhabitants are of such great diversity that it would not be justified to describe them as posessing a single culture.
Beginning in the south, Bangura's wetlands bring a vibrant showcase to the table. Lime, lemongrass, fish sauce, and chili make sweet culinary love to the tender meats of alligators and irritators. Coconuts, often imported from more northern islands, are growing increasingly popular among Banguran cooks.
To the east, the vast badlands of Curofrass have given way to comfort foods with distinctly smoky, tangy flavors. When passing through the sparse settlements, be certain to stock up on preserved goods. The people of Curofrass are experts on keeping things edible 'till time itself comes to an end.
The Ceresi people of Godmith have
filled my soul through my stomach. Coastal delicacies like shrimp and
oysters marry well with the wild game and smoky dishes from their
neighbors to the south. Skip the brothels-- all the love you need can be found in a deep bowl full of whatever a "grit" is.
While West Senicia is most well-known for having the best teas under the heavens, to which there is no debate, it's also home to a unique array of savory stir-fried and steamed dishes accompanied by floral notes. Vegetables, rice, and seafood seem to be staples in every Senician household.
At the risk of having this book declared anathema by her great Church, I must admit that the creations of Tassiuset were not friends to my stomach. Perhaps this is a personal weakness, and perhaps you would be more keen to stuff yourself with blood sausage, frog legs, and snails. If there's any compliment I could pay to a chef of Tassiuset, it's that they're damn keen on making use of the things I would never have conjured the thought to consume.
Finally, the food of Lombardia is distinctly unusual. Their chefs, often Doman Marn disapora, take great pride in creating experiences which can be found nowhere else on the Western Continent. Pain is as common as pleasure among Lombardian dishes; the careful cultivation of sparkfruit has bred a plant capable of killing those too weak to consume it. These strong spices are considered great delicacies among snow elves, adding a powerful hue to the otherwise dull meats found in the norther regions.
You've wandered the tundra for what feels like an eternity. You don't know where you are, what your name is, or how you arrived in this place. Your only hope for survival is a not-quite-human beast with an affinity for literature. Somewhere in the creature's vast archive, you hope to find the answers to your questions: Why are you here? Where did you come from? Who are you?
