Wizards At Work

Episode 3A - Codex Entry: Tally Brightspark

Episode 3A - Codex Entry: Tally Brightspark

Dec 13, 2024

Full Name: Talon "Tally" Brightspark

Age: 29

Height: 6'2

Complexion: Dark Purple, his arms have light blue symbols from his shoulders to his wrist (Runic Strands or Celestial Scars) it's not yet know when or how he got them

Build: Stocky, a bit chubby, but arms are somewhat bulky from lifting heavy machinery for his inventions

Hair: Short and messy, dark brown with streaks of silver (natural or enchanted, no one knows)

Eyes: Vibrant green, perpetually wide with excitement

Magical Specialty:

Tally is a Magic-Tech Engineer, blending magical energy with technology to create unique and sometimes erratic devices. Not the same as a technomancer, which is someone who can control technology with magic. He's not a spellcaster, he knows very few spells and they are weak in power. But he understands how to match magic and machinery perfectly...sometimes.

Specializations:

Arcane Engineering: Combining mechanical components with enchantments to create functional magic-tech.

Robotics and Drones: Developing and deploying small magical armored helpers for reconnaissance, containment, and mischief.

Prototype Creation: Always experimenting, with varying degrees of success.

Signature Creations:

Sparky: His robot dog, equipped with a device launcher and a sarcastic personality.

Thomas: A robot that he has been working on since childhood he built from scratch. He adds to the little bot and it works well...until it doesn't.

Notable Strengths:

Brilliant with improvisation and crafting under pressure

Forward-thinking, often finding modern solutions to magical problems

Enthusiastic about new challenges

Notable Weaknesses:

Tends to prioritize experimentation over practicality, leading to chaotic results

Struggles with casting spells or learning new magic, relying heavily on tech to fill the gaps

Overconfidence in his gadgets, even when they clearly aren't working

Background:
Tally grew up in a family of powerful wizards and technomancers, but unlike his relatives, his aura levels were low. They have taken their abilities to great heights . His siblings studied spellcasting and rituals, Tally instead spent hours disassembling enchanted gadgets to see how they worked.

This fascination led him to pursue a career in arcane engineering. After leaving a prestigious magic-tech academy (possibly voluntarily, possibly not), Tally went to work for several tech companies and engineering firms, but again for one reason or another was fired or banished. After a few years of job hopping, he found himself at Ashbain's General Magical Services. He's been with the guild for four years, using his inventions to fill gaps in their old-world methods.

While Tally often clashes with Merrick over the "proper" way to do things, his loyalty to the guild is unwavering.

Personality:
Tally is upbeat, curious, and perpetually optimistic, even in the face of failure. His quick wit and easygoing demeanor make him a favorite among the team, though his penchant for chaos can test their patience.

He has a knack for turning mundane moments into memorable ones, often by showing off his latest gadget or cracking jokes at Merrick's expense. Beneath his playful exterior, Tally is deeply passionate about proving that magic and technology can coexist harmoniously.

Fun Facts:

Favorite Gadget: Sparky, whom he treats like a pet.

Worst Invention Mishap: created a cleaning droid that flooded an entire building with enchanted soap bubbles for 30 floors.

Favorite Snack: Spicy magi-legumes that make your tongue glow for 30 seconds.

Guilty Pleasure: Collects old hover-brooms, even broken ones, hoping to "give them a second life."

Biggest Fear: That his reliance on technology makes him less of a wizard in the eyes of his peers.

Relationships:

Merrick Ashbain: Merrick's gruff dismissal of tech drives Tally nuts, but he sees the old wizard as a mentor, even if Merrick doesn't always act like one.

Saffrey Smokevine: Tally and Saffrey have an easy camaraderie, often teaming up to tease Merrick or Darwin. They both share a love for pushing boundaries, albeit in different ways.

Darwin Dewflare: Tally sees Darwin as a kindred spirit, albeit one who needs to loosen up. He enjoys teaching Darwin about gadgets and encouraging him to think outside the spellbook.

Current Status:
As the resident inventor at Ashbain's General Magical Services, Tally takes pride in solving problems that others can't—or won't. While his experiments don't always go as planned, his ingenuity and determination make him an invaluable part of the team.

{New Episodes Every Saturday @ Noon - Bonus Material On Wednesdays @ Noon}

This series invites you to step into the shoes of the characters, letting their voices bring the story to life. Whether you’re a fan of classic wizardry, quick-witted banter, or just a good old-fashioned magical disaster, Wizards Without Work offers an episodic journey filled with humor, heart, and a bit of spell-induced havoc.

Follow the trials and triumphs of Darwin Dewflare, a fresh graduate with a passion for Traditional Magic, as he joins the struggling Ashbain’s General Magical Services—a guild that’s barely holding itself together. Led by the grumpy but brilliant Merrick Ashbain, and accompanied by a team of lovable misfits, Darwin learns that wizardry isn’t always grand duels and dragon slaying. Sometimes, it’s frog cleanup duty, bickering with clients, and trying not to set the office on fire.

With a unique mix of book-style narration and script-like dialogue, Wizards Without Work lets you step directly into the action. Read it aloud with friends, become the characters, and dive into a magical world like no other.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when the wizards who don’t make the headlines still try to make a difference, this is the story for you.
