Captain Anemia unfolded a tattered black battle flag, at the center of which was a pristine white Edelweiss, surrounded by golden tassels.
Captain Anemia said solemnly,
"This squad has produced a major general, four colonels, and sixteen heroes, but it has never produced a traitor or a coward!"
"Yes, sir!"
"Once you join this squad, your life is forever linked with the Edelweiss. There are only two ways to leave this squad:
first, by completing your service and walking home, and the second is by becoming a martyr and being carried home."
At this point, a fierce glint flashed in Captain Anemia's eyes: "If any of you think of leaving by any other means,
I'll make sure you become a martyr. Do you understand?"
"Yes, sir!"
"Arm yourselves with the weapons I've mentioned, put on your armor, and practice on your own.
Form your own teams for practice." Captain Anemia glanced at the sky: " Free to ask me if you have any questions."
As the rookies were puzzled, Anemia had already walked aside to take a nap.
Blazing hesitated for a moment, then walked over and picked up a battle blade,
drawing the blade to take a look, and gasped in a breath.
"The real deal," he said to Wanderer: "These are the real thing."
"Then, then do we still practice?" Fallen asked nervously: "We could get hurt..."
"Practice! Do we really want to become martyrs here?" Wanderer sighed: "Let's wrap the blades."
After a day of practice, the rookies were cautious and made little progress.
That evening, Captain Anemia sparred with the rookies.
A dozen or so rookies didn't hold back and swarmed Anemia with a flurry of wild strikes.
But in the end, it was the rookies who fell with a chorus of screams, each of them injured, none escaping unscathed.
Cleber, the only one in the squad proficient in magic, wore a mournful expression as he began to cast healing spells for everyone.
However, his meager magical power didn't last long enough to heal himself.
While the other rookies were revitalized and working overtime through the night,
he grimaced and retreated to one side to meditate and regenerate his mana.
