Ehm to be fair it's actually Blue&Nash's fault, but in different ways. Blue is too literal and thought he was the worst so never even try to explain better the whose situation, Nash was obviously very hurt but if I know the way my partner talks I would like them to be very specific to avoid problems, so all that mess was a huge communication problem, you know a misunderstanding.
All this wasn't Mal's fault, it was all the consequences of jumping into half baked conclusions and assuming things because rumors&reputation. Actually Mal did them a favor by telling the truth, because probably it would have been worse in the end, now all that's left is A FREAKING CONVERSATION! TALK PEOPLE! EVEN IF JUST TO SAY "I'M SORRY"!
