Dear readers,  

Welcome to our novel, Silences and Memories. We are two hobbyist writers, one of whom is also an illustrator. This story is inspired by a short piece we previously published here on Tapas, titled Gestures and Words —we’ve included the link below in the description.  

Silences and Memories emerges from a blend of complex experiences and emotions, with the intention of exploring a touch of romance amidst adversity. This is a love story like many others you may have read. It’s not something extraordinary or brimming with dramatic twists, provocative moments, or conflict —at least, we don’t perceive it that way. Through this novel, you will meet Lucas Amery and Sergio Edevane, two characters whose lives, shaped by painful circumstances, lead us on a journey of understanding, empathy, and self-discovery.  

This series does not portray a toxic or self-destructive relationship, as that is not its purpose. On the contrary, in Silences and Memories, romance unfolds naturally, without pressure or unnecessary sexualization. While we recognize this approach is a matter of preference, our goal is to create a story that portrays love with sincerity and respect. If this type of narrative isn't to your liking, we completely understand. It’s also important to note that the novel contains sensitive topics, which we will outline in the Disclaimer and Content Warning.

This story is primarily intended for an adult audience and contains material that may be distressing for some readers. Set during the 1970s and 1990s, certain concepts depicted in the story —although relevant to its context— may be seen as questionable by today’s standards and thinking.  

The novel addresses themes such as the following:  

Violence/abuse: Child Abuse, Mention of Sexual Assault, Domestic Violence. 

Psychological struggles: Depression, Alzheimer’s, Attempted Suicide.   

Social prejudice: Homophobia, Bullying, Discrimination.  

Substance issues: Alcoholism, Illegal Substance Use. 

Others: Profanity, Sexual Content, Death. 

These elements are presented thoughtfully to enhance the characters' development and enrich the narrative, avoiding any glorification of harmful actions or situations.
