A New Adventure Begins
It had been a week since Irene’s fashion show stole the spotlight, and the buzz was still lingering in the school halls. Everywhere Irene went, people high-fived her or complimented her designs. But Mackie and Lillie? They were still salty about their loss.
“I don’t care how many outfits she makes,” Mackie hissed to Lillie during lunch. “She’s not all that.”
“Irene!” a familiar voice called out, cutting through the cafeteria noise.
It was BigRed, a senior with bright red curls that practically glowed under the fluorescent lights. She was cool, confident, and always surrounded by a group of friends. Everyone admired her, including Irene — though Irene would never admit it out loud.
BigRed strolled over to Irene’s table, holding hands with none other than her boyfriend, Melly. Melly was the guy every boy wanted to be and every girl wanted to know — charismatic, stylish, and always smiling like he knew a secret.
“Yo, Irene,” BigRed said, plopping down beside her. “That fashion show you pulled off was fire.”
“Thanks,” Irene said, grinning. “You coming to me for style tips?”
BigRed laughed. “Nah, I’m good. But I do have a proposition for you.”
Melly raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. “Oh, this should be good.”
The Bet
BigRed leaned in, her red curls brushing her shoulders. “There’s this talent showcase happening in the city next weekend. I was gonna perform, but…I need a little extra pizzazz to really stand out.”
“What kind of pizzazz?” Irene asked.
“Your kind,” BigRed said. “I’m talking custom outfits. Something that screams big deal.”
Irene’s eyes lit up. “I’m listening.”
“I’ll let you design my whole look,” BigRed said, “but if I win, you have to do something for me.”
“Like what?”
BigRed smirked. “Whatever I want.”
Jessie, who was sitting nearby, muttered, “This sounds like trouble.”
“And if I win?” Irene asked, crossing her arms.
“Then I’ll make sure Melly here helps you out with your next big scheme,” BigRed said.
Melly laughed. “Whoa, whoa, don’t just volunteer me like that.”
BigRed elbowed him playfully. “Come on, babe. It’s Irene. She’ll make it fun.”
“Deal,” Irene said, shaking BigRed’s hand before Melly could protest.
The Design Process
For the next few days, Irene threw herself into designing BigRed’s outfit. She stayed up late sketching, sewing, and adding rhinestones to everything she touched. Jessie helped where she could, mostly by handing Irene snacks and keeping her awake.
Meanwhile, Melly started hanging around more often, offering his opinions.
“Too much glitter,” he said one day, pointing at a jacket Irene was working on.
“There’s no such thing as too much glitter,” Irene shot back.
BigRed, who was trying on a pair of sparkly boots, laughed. “You two argue like siblings.”
“Don’t remind me,” Irene muttered, thinking of Mackie and Lillie.
The Showcase
The night of the city showcase was electric. The stage lights were bright, the music was loud, and the crowd was huge.
BigRed stepped onto the stage in a dazzling red jumpsuit Irene had designed, complete with a cape that glittered under the lights. The crowd went wild.
As BigRed danced and sang her heart out, Melly cheered louder than anyone else. “That’s my girl!” he shouted, making BigRed smile even bigger.
By the end of the night, BigRed won first place, and Irene couldn’t help but feel proud.
The Payback
“So, what’s the favor?” Irene asked BigRed after the show.
BigRed grinned. “I’ll think of something. But for now, how about we celebrate?”
“Celebrate how?” Irene asked cautiously.
Melly smirked. “Ever been to an after-party?”
Irene’s eyes widened. “Wait, like a real after-party? With seniors and everything?”
“Yup,” BigRed said. “You’re coming with us.”
“Uh, I don’t know,” Jessie said nervously.
“Oh, come on,” BigRed said, slinging an arm around Jessie. “It’ll be fun. And Melly will make sure no one messes with you.”
Melly nodded. “Don’t worry. We got you.”
The Party Drama
The party was everything Irene had imagined — loud music, cool people, and way too much energy. At first, she stuck close to Jessie, feeling out of place. But then Mackie and Lillie showed up.
“What are you doing here?” Mackie sneered, her arms crossed.
“Probably here to spy on us,” Lillie added.
“Spy on you?” Irene laughed. “Please. You’re not that interesting.”
Before Mackie could respond, BigRed appeared out of nowhere, her red curls bouncing. “Is there a problem here?”
Mackie opened her mouth to speak, but one look from BigRed made her think twice. “Nope,” she muttered, dragging Lillie away.
“Thanks,” Irene said.
“No problem,” BigRed said. “Now, go have some fun. You’ve earned it.”
Melly walked over and handed Irene a soda. “You handled that like a pro.”
“Thanks,” Irene said, feeling a little proud.
The Next Adventure
By the end of the night, Irene realized something important: life was always going to be chaotic, especially with people like Mackie, Lillie, BigRed, and Melly in it. But as long as she stayed bold and true to herself, she could handle anything.
And with BigRed and Melly in her corner, she knew her next adventure would be even bigger.
