Aura of War

chapter 2 shadows of the past

chapter 2 shadows of the past

Dec 19, 2024

"I'll be right back" I said to my mother as I said goodbye while the morning sun made her ruby colored hair shine making her look as beautiful as a sunset, as I walked through town and greeted all my acquaintances and strangers alike before arriving at the entrance of my town near the gate I could see Gerard the guard guarding the entrance.

"Back for firewood again? Shyn " Gerard asked me. To which I nodded my head enthusiastically and went to carry out my day to day in which I was happy, suddenly I felt my backpack being pulled where I carried my tools of work.

I opened my eyes under an unknown roof at that moment I thought why I dreamed of the past but then I reacted as I had not fallen asleep in a hut, fearful I quickly looked for my sister Lauryel and found her asleep right next to me, I felt relief to see her sleeping so peacefully while her red hair like the petals of a rose something tangled from my mother bothered her face.

When I looked around I could see that I was inside a cabin very well equipped to live with a family, at the thought of family I felt nostalgic but I abandoned that thought knowing that it was not important now, when I got off the bed that was made with logs and the comfortable mattress was made with wool, I carried my sister and just when I was getting ready to leave the cabin the door opened at the moment I jumped back about three steps and I could see the same beast boy who had knocked out standing stunned at the door.

Next to him entered a lady who possessed the same characteristics as the boy.
And she started speaking that same language that I didn't understand, when I looked at my situation I just thought, I stood in front of the boy and tried to tell him with signs that I didn't understand his language to which he himself with a smile from ear to ear, told me to wait with hand signals.

Not long after the boy arrived again with the same lady, only now he brought a beautiful woman with light green hair like grass in the morning.

Without waiting for anything I said "boy I said I don't understand you, not that you should bring more people".

The woman who just by moving showed her elegance sat next to the child looked at me and said " first , good morning I am orian of the driade race and I have accepted to be an interpreter since you do not understand each other ".

Surprised, not expecting him to speak my language I felt comfortable speaking the same language , after we introduced ourselves I discovered that in this forest there is a barrier which I should not have passed that the people in front of me apart from miss driade were luke and his mother susan.

Also that I was brought here because it was dangerous to stay in the borders of the forest and Luke made it clear that he never meant me any harm.

Orian asked" so what is a human doing.... In this forest?"

After that question I explained what happened with the appearance of the angels, as I looked up and looked at Ms. Orian I saw pity.

"Please don't look at me with those eyes," I said bitterly.

"I apologize, I don't know what to say, I can only offer you shelter for as long as you need" and added "welcome to the fork village of the beastmen" with that she approached me and touched my throat and my ears.

I offer you this favor , as I thought about what favor , I realized I could understand the boy asking his mother " do you think I want to go to school?" To which his mother denied and said " I don't know ".

After a few days in town I found out from luke that there are three types of schools, history, business and warriors.

In the one I was interested in, which was for warriors, they taught not only a type of martial arts but also how to handle a sword, a bow or daggers.

When I asked why they taught so much to one person, Luke told me that the masters say that in battle you leave everything you know with honor.

Later that day I received a call from Miss Driade Orian. I left my sister at Luke's house asleep and went to where Miss Driade was.

Just as I arrived at the place I saw her sitting on a kind of bench where about two people could sit, noticing my presence, she greeted me and waved me over.

Sitting next to her I asked her what she needed and she told me

"Do you want to know why the angels attacked your town?" he asked.

At a loss for words as I was not expecting that question, without hesitation I said "yes".

"Well to tell you that I would have to tell you about a love that was never meant to be" said the driade with a melancholic voice.

Flames were devouring the peaceful village of Candell. Shyn, a boy barely seven years old, ran blindly among the burning houses, the smell of burning wood and roasting meat piercing his nostrils. The sky, once blue and serene, was now a patch of angry red. He had arrived too late. His home, the only place he had ever known, was now a pile of ashes.
