Four Years before Chapter 1, 16 Year Old Enjo was sitting alone in a Jail Cell. He had been arrested for getting into a fight again. He was in Jail so often they practically had a cell reserved for him. Enjo’s an Orphan, previously raised by just his Mother until she passed last year from a terminal disease. Ever since, his delinquency had ramped up, hence him being in Jail a lot, mostly for fighting against Thugs. Despite only being a Teenager, Enjo was known to be a great fighter, and abnormally strong. Enjo didn’t really know what it was himself, just that when he fought some kind of yellow Aura surrounded him, and he could achieve superhuman feats of strength. At the moment, he was being visited by an Officer who regularly handled him.

“This is your 8th time in Jail this Year, Enjo.” The Officer, who’s name was Higaisha, said to Enjo. “And it’s only March, son.”

Enjo looked up at him, but didn’ respond. Not because he was angry, he just didn’t have anything to say. Officer Higaisha’s tone was never angry, rude, or condescending. He spoke objectively, but not coldly. The two of them have even had more personal talks in the past, with Enjo talking about his Mother, and Higaisha telling him about his Wife and his young Son. Enjo had some respect for the Officer, as he was the only one that tried to understand him, rather than just labelling him a delinquent Thug.

“They had it comin’.” Enjo eventually responded. “Those Thugs were tryin’ to shake people down for money, so I shook their heads.”

“Well…” Higaisha began to respond, chuckling ever so slightly. “I’m sure many could say they deserved it.”

He sat on a chair across from the cell. He looked right at Enjo, with his hands folded. His face was stern, but not angry.

“Enjo, you’ve been expelled from School ever since November of last year…” He began, “You don’t have a Home…you keep getting arrested for getting in fights…what I’m trying to get at is, what do you intend to do with your future, son? The path you’re on right now isn’t healthy.”

Enjo was silent again. He hadn’t really thought about the future. He’s always been the type to care more about the Here and Now rather than the There and Then. But seeing as how he was asked, and had nothing else to do, he figured he’d answer.

“...I want to protect people.” Enjo responded, answering his question after some thought. “But that’s just second nature, isn’t it? Protecting people.”

“To some, yes. Others not so much.” Higaisha responded.

“And those others are the ones I wanna protect them from.” Enjo added. “People who take advantage of the weak, they make me burn up.”

“Well, I’m not gonna say you’re wrong for thinking that way…” Higaisha said, a bit solemnly. “But you can’t spend your life being concerned about protecting others. Sometimes you just need to focus on helping yourself.”

Enjo was about to respond, when a loud alarm went off! Higaisha looked over, seeing that some Yakuza Thugs had broken out the other Criminals, and many had stormed in, attacking the Officers! Higaisha got up and quickly grabbed his gun, shooting several of the Yakuza Thugs and a couple Criminals. His shots weren’t lethal, aimed at areas that can incapacitate them, like their legs and arms. Despite his efforts, there were two many, and they started to overwhelm him and the other Guards, knocking them to the ground and starting to beat on them! Enjo leapt from the bench in his holding cell, grabbing ahold of the bars and seeing the mayhem before him! Seeing the Officers getting pummeled, he felt anger swelling up inside him, as his grip on the bars tightened to the point they started to bend!

“Guys like this…” Enjo growled, as his Aura formed, and started to swirl around him. Steam began to rise from his body! “You really get me heated!”

Enjo reared his fist back, as flames gathered around it! He punched the bars, not only snapping them but melting them as well! Enjo stared in surprise for a second…he had never done this before! But he didn’t have time to worry about that! He ran in and started grabbing ahold of Thugs and Criminals, throwing them off of the Officers with great strength! One of the Thugs he threw aside turned back and hit him in the back of the head. It didn’t hurt him, in fact he barely felt it, but it did get his attention. With no hesitation, he turned and punched the Thug, sending them flying into a wall! He then conjured more flames and swung his hand, sending the criminals and thugs all flying across the rooms in a burst of fire! He looked down at the Officers, who were all alive, but unconscious and badly beaten. Seeing them hurt just got him even angrier, with the flames around him flaring to life as he turned to the thugs. He clenched his fist and reared back, making a Fireball! He then hurled it at them, making a large explosion that blew what was left of them out the front of the building! The fire alarms went off due to the flames, as he walked out front. He had picked up a Phone from one of the officers, and dialed for emergency services.

“Hello? There’s been an incident at the Police Station. The building was stormed by Yakuza.” Enjo explained to the person on the other end. “They’re all dead now. There are Officers inside who’ve been injured, and need medical attention.”

He hung up and got down on his knees. He then put the phone on the ground, and put his hands behind his head. After a moment, he heard Sirens approaching as Ambulances and Police Vehicles drove up to the Station, accompanied by the Fire Department. Still, Enjo sat there, a determined look in his eyes. He had discovered he truly does have the Power to change Japan and protect others. More power than he could’ve imagined. And it had ignited a new flame within him.
