Two people sat across the table from one another in a cozy restaurant, the dim lighting casting soft shadows over the intimate setting. They had met through an online dating platform and decided to take their chance by meeting in person. There was a slight tension in the air as they tried to ease into conversation.
“You look tense,” the guy remarked, his tone gentle yet observant. “Don’t you go on dates often?”
The girl shifted slightly in her seat, the nervousness evident on her face. “I do, but... I don’t know. I guess I’m a bit nervous since it’s been a while,” she admitted, her voice quiet but sincere.
“I see,” he said, offering her a reassuring smile. “So, what do you do for work?”
“I work at a law firm,” she replied, her posture relaxing a bit as she opened up more.
The conversation started flowing more easily, with both of them sharing stories about their lives. Just when things were starting to feel comfortable, the girl's phone rang. She glanced at the screen, hesitated, and then ignored it. But then it rang again, and again.
“Sorry, it’s an unknown number. Just give me a moment,” she said, standing up and excusing herself from the table.
She walked a few feet away to take the call, but when she returned, there was a noticeable shift in her demeanor. “I’m sorry, but I have to go,” she said quickly, almost in a rush.
“Is everything okay?” the guy asked, concern evident in his voice.
She nodded, looking flustered. “Yeah, everything’s fine. I just... I have to go.”
Before he could say anything else, she grabbed her phone from the table. “Unlock it,” she said as she quickly typed in a few things. She saved her number, gave him a fleeting smile, and told him, “Call me in the morning,” before heading out the door. The entire interaction was so abrupt that he found himself standing there, bewildered, not quite understanding what had just happened.
Still in a daze, he paid the bill and left the restaurant, hoping to clear his head. He walked to a nearby bar and ordered a drink. The place was quiet, a perfect spot for him to sit and think. But just as he took a sip, a voice interrupted his thoughts.
“Are you here alone?” a girl asked, sliding into the seat next to him with a playful smile.
“You could say that,” he replied, raising an eyebrow, unsure where this conversation was going.
“Want to come back to my place?” she asked, her voice inviting.
He didn’t hesitate. “Yeah,” he said, finishing his drink and following her out.
They arrived at her apartment, and she immediately started knocking on the door. “Hey, open up! It’s me!” she called out, her tone lighthearted but firm.
After a few moments of silence, she pounded on the door again. “I’ll kick it down if you don’t open up!”
Finally, a voice responded from inside. “Just a minute,” it said, sounding familiar to him in an odd way. To his surprise, the door swung open, and there stood the girl he had just been on a date with—wrapped in nothing but a towel around her waist.
Both of them froze, stunned by the sudden turn of events. The guy blinked, trying to make sense of what was happening. “Surprise,” he said, his voice tinged with disbelief.
“Do you two know each other?” the girl he had come with asked, her curiosity piqued.
“He’s my date,” the girl in the towel replied, her expression unreadable.“Am I?” he muttered, more to himself than anyone else, feeling suddenly very lost. The conversation quickly spiraled into a playful, yet awkward exchange. “I guess you get flirty when you’re drunk,” the towel girl teased, her eyes glinting with mischief.
“I can be flirty even when I’m sober, if you want me to,” the guy said, smirking.
“Is that why you came here with my friend, to hook up?” she retorted, a slight edge to her tone.
“Well...” He paused, unsure how to respond, his mind reeling from the turn of events. “Hey, bar girl, sorry... but now, coming to you, I don’t even know your name. So, you’ll be ‘towel lady,’ I guess.”
The girl in the towel raised an eyebrow but didn’t seem offended. “I like you,” she said with a small grin.
Before the situation could escalate further, the guy—overwhelmed by everything happening all at once—lost his balance, stumbling forward and landing right on top of both girls. His vision blurred as he felt the weight of everything crashing down on him, and before he could fully comprehend the moment, the alcohol had taken its toll. He blacked out, collapsing onto the couch, still unsure of how he ended up there.
