A black Maybach slowly emerged from the darkness. The owner of the luxury car was Wan Yunliu, but at the wheel was Wan Yunyao. Yunyao was not Yunliu's sister or elder sister, but his wife. She was a girl adopted by the Wan family since childhood, growing up with Yunliu like a sister. However, after growing up, Yunyao became Yunliu's wife.
People who like childhood sweetheart stories often don't have their own childhood sweethearts, because a boy and girl who grow up together, being too familiar with each other, trigger incest taboos. This is an evolutionary theory, explaining a primitive instinct evolved by animals. But there are exceptions, and Yunliu and Yunyao’s story is one of them. Yunyao's beauty far surpassed the boundaries of those taboos, making Yunliu a fan of his "little sister" since childhood, even though he was a handsome, charming young man who attracted countless girls.
Yunliu was originally with Yunyao, but had to attend to something urgently, so Yunyao drove home alone.
Just before reaching home, Yunyao happened to see a middle-aged man crouched on the roadside, crying uncontrollably. Seeing the man’s sorrow, Yunyao couldn’t help but feel pity. She parked the Maybach by the roadside, lowered the window, and quietly watched the tearful man.
The man was unusual, showing no attempt to hide his grief, not caring about others’ attention, completely lost in his emotions, as if unaffected by the world around him.
"What's wrong?" Yunyao's voice was so beautiful it seemed to come from another world.
The man seemed unwilling to speak, shaking his head and lowering his gaze, not looking at her extraordinary beauty.
Yunyao deduced that the man had probably experienced an emotional breakdown and softly said, "Is there anything I can help with? Perhaps you need some money to get through this? Give me your phone, I can help you make some money."
The man looked at her in surprise but made no further movement or words.
Yunyao continued, "You don’t want a transfer? Fine, take this, you can pawn it if you need." She took off her Patek Philippe watch.
The man looked at the beautiful watch in her delicate hand, unable to believe it.
He asked hoarsely, "Why?"
Yunyao understood what he was asking, and with a faint smile, said, "Anyway, this watch will be lost with my past memories. Since I’ve met you, it’s only right that you take it."
The man took the Patek Philippe, giving it a brief glance. He was in financial ruin and knew nothing about watches. He didn’t recognize it as a Patek Philippe, nor did he know how valuable it was. But in his eyes, there was no desire for money. Instead, he felt an urge to share his story with this extraordinary woman, because she seemed just as unique as he was.
"I can tell you why I’m upset," the man said.
Yunyao replied gently, "Oh, go ahead, tell me."
The man said, "Because I just lost all of my immediate family forever. No matter how much I hated them in the past, they hated me just as much. And because of my actions, I now have no way of connecting with them ever again."
Yunyao responded, "That’s awful, what happened?"
But the man did not answer. Instead, he said, "Madam, the world is not safe these days. It’s dangerous for you to be out here alone."
The most dangerous enemy was right before her. Unfortunately, she was not his target. Even worse, if the target appeared, this beautiful goddess might be sent to heaven along with them.
Yunyao smiled faintly, "It’s fine. I thought you were facing financial difficulties, but it seems it’s something much more serious."
The man pointed at the watch, "Do you want it back?"
Yunyao shook her head, "No, I told you, I was going to throw it away anyway."
The man said, "Oh, I’ll keep it then. I don’t need the money, but I like this gift. I won’t pawn it."
Yunyao said, "Take it. I’m leaving now. You don’t want to tell me your story."
The man nodded, "Alright, Madam."
Yunyao waved and returned to her Maybach as though nothing had happened.
The man was Ethan Shaw. He had been waiting at the spot, but unexpectedly received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed to be a high-level hunter, specifically sent to kill him, and arranged to meet. Ethan Shaw laughed and said, "What if I don’t show up?"
The caller replied, "You will come, because you want to meet me even more than I want to meet you. I’ve killed your entire family. You can go confirm it now."
That’s how his encounter with Yunyao happened.
Indeed, in the lawless Dark Forest, these so-called high-level hunters were incredibly ruthless. Although Ethan Shaw was emotionally shaken, he did not give up on his plan. He continued to wait for Wan Yunliu’s appearance.
Two hours later, Algieon reminded him, "I’ve seen Wan Yunliu return home from the surveillance. You can go ahead and kill him now."
Ethan Shaw stretched his stiff legs and slowly moved toward his target.
At the outer wall of the Wan family’s villa, Ethan Shaw looked up but saw nothing. However, with a flicker of the "Gray's Kiss," a radiation-captured panoramic view was projected directly into his eyes. He saw two figures—it was, of course, the couple.
Ethan Shaw stared at Yunyao’s figure, entranced. He had never thought a person's radiation silhouette could be so captivating. It looked like she was still taking a shower. Why would she shower when her husband returned home? As this thought crossed his mind, Ethan Shaw felt a faint flicker of jealousy. But it didn’t matter anymore—she was going to die anyway.
With "Gray's Kiss" aimed at Yunliu's room, Ethan Shaw silently counted down. The device had already delivered a lethal radiation kiss to Yunliu. Ethan Shaw put the device away and left nonchalantly.
...
Three days later, Ethan Shaw's assistant, Lily Ju’s ex-boyfriend, Luo Yuxiang, arranged to meet him in the bamboo forest at Forest Park. It was a secluded place, ideal for their transaction.
When Luo Yuxiang saw that Ethan Shaw came empty-handed, he had a bad feeling and grumbled, "Where’s the money? I told you I wanted cash."
Ethan Shaw said, "Sorry, I didn’t make any money. I shorted a stock, thought I’d make a huge profit, but ended up losing a few billion. If you don’t mind, take a look at this watch. It looks like a Patek Philippe. It should be worth quite a bit."
Luo Yuxiang looked at the watch Ethan Shaw pulled out from his pocket and scowled, "Who wants a Patek Philippe? Are you kidding me? You claim to manage 40 billion, but can’t even come up with 1 million? Even borrowing it should be easy!"
Ethan Shaw smiled faintly, "Who do you think you are, that I would go beg for money? I’m giving you one more chance—do you want to continue the transaction?"
Luo Yuxiang impatiently retorted, "Wrong! You’ve got it all wrong. It’s not about me giving you a chance. You think a watch is going to settle things? You don’t even know how much this watch is worth. Where did you get it from?"
Ethan Shaw sighed, "Sigh, I thought 'Gray’s Kiss' would be effective, but it seems... it didn’t work at all. What went wrong? It’s strange..."
Luo Yuxiang, hearing about the "Gray's Kiss," was taken aback. "Gray’s Kiss?"
Ethan Shaw explained, "Gray is the unit of radiation dose. 'Gray’s Kiss' is a handheld device that emits radiation. The mysterious deaths of 218 people in the Zhou Qingyu Building were caused by this device."
Luo Yuxiang exclaimed, "What? How... how do you know someone’s using this 'Gray’s Kiss'?"
Ethan Shaw: "Because I’m the killer. I used 'Gray’s Kiss' on some of the senior executives at Zhou Qingyu Hall. I also planned to use it on Wan Yunliu from Wan Yunliu Auto. He was exposed to the lethal radiation from 'Gray’s Kiss' and will be unwell in a few minutes. He’ll die in three days. But when I checked, Wan Yunliu was still alive and well. Just before I came here, I stared at him for a while from the building across the street..."
Luo Yuxiang had heard of the Zhou Qingyu Hall massacre and had been following the news, but he never thought he’d be directly involved. Trembling, he stepped back and stammered, "Are... are you joking? Are you threatening me?"
Ethan Shaw said, "No, I’m just explaining why my shorting failed. If the founder dies, their stock will plummet. I shorted the stock of Wan Yunliu Auto with 10 billion and five times leverage. If their stock drops 10%, I’ll make 5 billion easy."
Luo Yuxiang didn’t have much concept of someone managing 40 billion, but he knew very well who the devil capable of killing 218 people was. He suddenly lost all delusions about the world, fell to his knees, and begged for mercy, "Please don't kill me! Please! I’ll do whatever you want!"
Ethan Shaw looked at him coldly and said, "Sorry, it’s too late. You already know too much, and frankly, I don’t like you."
Luo Yuxiang looked up at Ethan Shaw's indifferent eyes and knew his life was over. In a desperate attempt to flee, he suddenly jumped up and sprinted away. He had been a school athlete in his youth, capable of running 13.5 meters per second in the 100-meter dash. However, his speed, which could reach 27 kilometers per hour, was nothing compared to the 60 kilometers per hour of someone wearing the "Achilles’ Heel" shoes.
At 30 meters away, Luo Yuxiang glanced over his shoulder to check if Ethan Shaw was chasing him. To his shock, Ethan Shaw had already appeared in front of him and reached out with a dark right hand. His fist was clenched, and as it opened, a gleaming sword called "Colorless Sword" emerged from his gauntlet.
Luo Yuxiang didn’t even have time to react. He slammed into the sword, which pierced straight through his chest with a muffled "thunk." The excruciating pain made him scream, and his heart was pierced by the Colorless Sword.
As Luo Yuxiang reached out to clutch his chest, half of his hand was sliced off by the razor-sharp sword.
Blood stained the Colorless Sword, but the weapon vanished back into Ethan Shaw's gauntlet after three seconds. The blood dripped off, leaving behind no trace of its presence.
Algieon’s voice came through the communication chip in his ear: "The rest of the job will be handled by ordinary hunters. You can leave now."
Without a word, Ethan Shaw turned and walked away, casually slipping the Patek Philippe watch back into his pocket. He was relieved that Luo Yuxiang hadn’t accepted the deal. If he had, the beautiful goddess’s gift would’ve been lost.
