The Alpha Omega

Chapter 6

Chapter 6

Dec 29, 2024

Atlas

Going home, knowing they were somewhere I couldn’t reach them without the help of a witch, was damn near unbearable. I didn’t know what was worse, leaving or being told to leave by the rogue alpha. He didn’t seem too keen on the idea of me at all. My alpha only chuffed at the idea of him sending us home. However, my omega was absolutely devastated.

My feet felt like they had anchors on them, and each step I took away from the clearing, the more my heart hurt. I didn’t know what to do either. If I should come back the next day? Or should I wait for them? I know the witch told me to come back, but I didn’t know if that would be best. What if I was sent home again without answers?

Waiting seemed like the worst possible thing to do, but I knew pushing someone to do something they didn’t want to do was even worse. My mind kept replaying those short twenty-ish minutes together, from their appearances to their voices. Gage asked me the question that hardly anyone would ask unless I brought it up in conversation. Asking my pronouns really did make my heart soar.

The pink-haired omega, Orion, I could tell he didn’t agree with the decision of Gage either. But I knew I needed to respect his time. We’d have a lifetime to figure things out anyway.

When I finally got home, the sun had begun to peak on the horizon. I dragged my body to my room and lay in my bed, not caring about getting out of my clothes. I felt like an elephant was on my chest, weighing me down.

I stared up at the ceiling and let out a small whimper, and when I finally let myself cry. I was relieved to realize I wasn’t alone in the world and that I was actually destined for someone. I knew I couldn’t tell anyone about my mates because I’d look like a crazy person, pointing to the air. I could already imagine how my papa and dad would look at each other with concern for me.

I wondered if I’d go into heat, or rut, or worst of all, both. I didn’t know if

I’d be able to bear it alone this time. From what my dad told me, anyway.

I clenched my fists and put them on my chest to bring myself some comfort and let out a small sob.

I knew tomorrow would be the day I got my answers. My only worry was the journey back to that clearing. I didn’t know if I’d have it in my heart to travel there only to get rejected.

I didn’t need to think about that. It would only paralyze me from doing anything else.

Orion

Before heading to an empty bed, I made sure to let Gage know when he got back from chopping wood that I was super pissed at him. I didn’t even bother to fold up the pillow and blanket for him before placing them on the couch. I’d never have thought that he’d be so– so— what was the word I was thinking about?

I just know he pissed me off. I knew that our mate was sent away out of our safe borders, and for what? I guess it gave me some comfort to know that he had a pack to go home to. I knew in some ways that Gage was meant to be in a pack. He was meant to lead a pack, too, but circumstances weren’t on his side, and the side of the coin his fate landed on wasn’t the easy road.

But that didn’t mean he got the ticket to me kissing his ass, either. He could kiss mine. And quite frankly, he could kiss Atlas’s ass too. Gage didn’t need to act like he was macho or something or that he had hetero-normative roles that he played in his head. Adding another person to our lives wasn’t an all too bad thing, either.

Plus, having someone a little more like me would make me feel a bit better. Even if I was Maeve’s familiar, it didn’t hide the fact that her strong personality and her headstrong approach to things made her more of an ‘alpha’ in some ways. She might have human genetics, but she was more a part of the supernatural than human. She’d totally be an alpha if it were at all possible.

Atlas seemed to lean a bit on the more docile side. Like me, I knew he had alpha genes, which made me wonder about a lot of things. Things on how we would mesh sexually: would he be a bit sterner with me, letting his alpha side take over? Or would he let his omega control him?

My body buzzed at the thought.

I honestly was intrigued by the idea of Atlas and the thought of our world getting a bit larger. I also wanted to know what in the hell Gage was thinking mostly because he seemed almost disgusted by the fact that we had another mate. Honestly, I was a bit weirded out at first. But finding out that Atlas was an entirely different anomaly, an alpha omega, it made perfect sense.

He was meant to be with a pairing like Gage and I.

I could hear Gage walk into the cabin, and he let out a sigh loud enough for me to hear. I could hear him kick his boots off and the thud of his ax being leaned up against the wall.

I could hear him lay down on the couch, hearing it squeak under his weight.

Good, he didn’t even bother with me. I didn’t have anything nice to say to him anyway.

“Y’know,” He said loud enough for me to hear him. “This was a lot for me to take in.”

I guess there went my “I’m not talking to you” protest.

I rolled my eyes, knowing he couldn’t see me do so. “Okay? He didn’t have the privilege of knowing us his entire life, and you kicked him to the curb before he could even get to know us. What’s your plan?” I asked. “Hmm? Just wish him away? You know it doesn’t work that way, Gage.” I got off of the bed and opened our bedroom door. His head shot up, and his red eyes met mine.

“I know I looked like a dick, and I made an ass out of myself, but I’ve never heard of three people being mated to one another. It– It feels morally wrong.” His voice cracked. I could tell he was at war with his own thoughts. “What if one of us favors him over the other? What if it tears you and me apart? You’re all I’ve ever known, all I’ve ever been with.” He leaned his head back on the armrest of the couch and ran a hand through his curly brown hair, then covered his face with both of his hands.

“And you’re all I’ve ever known, too,” I sighed, leaning against the door frame. “But I’m not scared about change. If anything, maybe he was a blessing in disguise to us. Maybe we’ll get to see the world? Who knows, our lives have been spent traveling around to different places with Maeve’s magic, but we always had to keep to ourselves because of hunters. Maybe his pack could protect the land?” I said.

It wasn’t very often that we would be able to enjoy the real world. Yeah, we weren’t inept to the world around us. We kept up with trends, and we did have a few people we kept in contact with. But for the most part, we were alone.

“I don’t know if I can do this.” He finally said.

“Well, it doesn’t hurt to give it a try. What if you fall for him like you did with me?”

“Hard, fast, and wild?” He pulled one of his hands off of his face to look at me.

“Maybe,” I responded, smirking at him. “If I have to say so myself, I found him quite cute with his curly white and black hair and cute freckles and stuff.” I pursed my lips.

Gage hummed, then placed his hands back over his face and took a deep breath. “Maeve said he is supposed to come back tomorrow.”

“Do you know what your answer will be tomorrow?” I asked.

“Honestly.” He paused, swallowing. “I don’t know what the answer would be. I think I might need time to digest this.”

I nodded my head. “Well, I’m gonna go to bed. I think I need time alone tonight.” I stepped back into our room. “I hope you’re able to embrace this new part of our life because I will agree to the mateship tomorrow, no matter what,” I said before closing the door to our room.

Atlas- the misfit of his pack. Being the only alpha omega recorded for shifters. He didn't want the responsibility of being the alpha of his pack... It didn't feel right. It wasn't his calling. One day, while in the woods during a full moon, he stumbles across an invisible border. Behind it was the person, the persons, he craved since he came of age.

Gage- the rogue. Maeve, a witch, had taken him under her wing when his supposed father took him from his loving home with his papa and his dad. Maeve wiped his memories of that horrific night when his aunt was killed while caring for him. When he reached the age of eighteen, Maeve returned his memories as requested. Bringing the memories, the blood, and the lost hope of his parents, who were also rogue, coming back to him. Because, for all he knew, they were dead.

Orion- the familiar. Maeve was all he had from birth. His mother had died giving birth to him. Then, she brought home a wolf pup when he was around five years old. They fought much like a cat and dog would, respectably. Growing up to be Maeve's forever companion until she no longer needed him. He learned much about the world of magic himself. Being able to do small spells here and there wouldn't hurt anyone. Right?
