Rai: Rise of the Ordinary

Chapter 5: Extraordinary part 2

Chapter 5: Extraordinary part 2

Dec 31, 2024

The Deans exchanged subtle, knowing smiles, their eyes glinting with approval. Dean Harchell, however, stood closer to Rai than usual, her gaze fixed on him with an intensity that drew a sharp glance from Rose. Though Rose’s eyes were burning with jealousy, she remained composed, unwilling to reveal any emotions.

Rai met Mammoth’s eyes, offering him a reassuring, warm smile before turning his gaze back to Pragaya. With a quiet but firm voice, Rai spoke, “I wish for Mammoth’s dismissal and blacklisting to be revoked.”

Pragaya laughed heartily, his voice echoing through the arena. “Of course, I would expect nothing less from you, my boy,” he said, his tone filled with admiration. Even Kromus, typically reserved, wore a faint smile, silently approving of Rai’s actions. The other Deans exchanged looks of approval, their expressions giving away their respect for the young boy standing before them.

Pragaya raised his hand in a celebratory gesture. “I hereby revoke Mammoth Stark’s dismissal and blacklisting. He shall continue his path in the world of magic as usual!”

The crowd erupted into joyful cheers, the sound deafening as they celebrated Rai’s wish and the impact it had on the battle. Rose wore a proud smile, clearly impressed by his decision. Gale and his comrades, filled with excitement, were nearly beside themselves with joy. Rai, the ordinary boy, had done something extraordinary.

Mammoth, his eyes filled with tears, wrapped Rai in a tight embrace. Rai, caught completely off guard, looked utterly uncomfortable, his face twisting in a comedic mix of awkwardness and surprise.

“Okay, buddy, that’s enough. You can let go now,” Rai said, his voice strained as he gently tried to push Mammoth away.

Reluctantly, Mammoth released him, stepping back with a deep bow. His head lowered in a gesture of respect, his voice thick with gratitude. “You truly are not ordinary, Rai.” He exclaimed, his tone filled with admiration and pride.

Dean Harchell, her voice dripping with seduction, took a step forward. “Well, I would also like to give Rai a prize for his victory,” she purred.

Standing just shy of six feet, Harchell reached up and gently cupped Rai’s chin, pulling him down as she leaned in to kiss him on the lips. The crowd froze in shock, the atmosphere thick with disbelief. The boys were filled with envy, while Rose’s fury burned brightly in her eyes, her fists clenching at her sides.

But the kiss held an unexpected power. As their lips met, the air around them seemed to shimmer, sparkling with an almost magical energy. Rai, still caught off guard, kept his eyes open as the kiss unfolded. He glanced around in confusion, unsure of what was happening.

In that moment, Harchell’s appearance began to change. Her hair, once black, transformed into a brilliant white. Her ears, previously round, shifted into sharp points, and her skin turned pale, glowing with an ethereal radiance. With every passing second, she became undeniably more beautiful, her aura now exuding an otherworldly grace.

The arena fell into stunned silence, the shock of everything that had transpired leaving everyone speechless. The crowd, still processing the events, could only wonder what this all meant.

Rose, a mix of fury and confusion painted across her face, stood frozen as she watched the situation unfold before her. Gale, on the other hand, with tears streaming down his face, wore an expression of pride, as if witnessing a proud father. “That’s my boy! Get all the ladies!” he cheered, his voice cracking with emotion. “I want some too, man.”

Dean Harchell, now satisfied with her kiss, slowly pulled away, placing a finger to her lips. With a mysterious smile, she addressed the crowd, her voice filled with a hint of mischief. “That is what happens when an elf in hiding kisses a man she loves.”

The crowd’s reactions were mixed. Some were taken aback by the revelation that Harchell was an elf, while Rose’s face twisted in anger, her heart burning with jealousy at the thought of Harchell’s feelings for Rai.

Harchell, flustered and embarrassed, placed a hand over her face, her cheeks flushed bright red. “Ohhh, how do I say this...” she muttered, her voice nervous. Finally, she gathered the courage to speak. “I wish to be your wife, Rai.”

Rai, ever calm, gave her a polite but firm smile. “I’m sorry, but I’ve already promised that someone else will be my wife.”

Rose, who had been silently observing, felt a strange sense of relief. She quickly regained her composure, her usual grace intact, glad to hear Rai’s words.

Harchell, not discouraged in the slightest, giggled lightly. “That’s okay, I can be your second wife. I don’t mind that.”

The crowd gasped in shock, and even the Deans couldn’t hide their surprise. Kromus placed a hand over his forehead, sighing heavily, while Pragaya, as always, burst into laughter.

Rai, ever the good-natured, shrugged. “Well, I’m okay with that, but you’re going to have to ask Rose if she’s okay with me having a second wife.”

The entire crowd turned to Rose, awaiting her reaction. But as always, Rose maintained her composure in public, her face a picture of elegance and poise. “I never said I was going to marry you.” She said coolly.

Later that night, in the privacy of her room, Rose lay on her bed, hugging a pillow tightly to her chest. She fidgeted restlessly, her mind a whirl of thoughts as she replayed the events of the day. The image of Harchell and Rai together lingered in her mind, fueling a growing frustration she couldn’t shake.

Harchell, with a mischievous grin, leaned closer to Rai. “Fine then, it seems I can have you all to myself.” She continued to hold his arm, her closeness unmistakable. Rai, unable to shake her off, reluctantly accepted his fate.

But the drama didn’t end there. The students, still reeling from the shocking turn of events, couldn’t help but wonder—Who exactly is Rai? Elves were mystical creatures, and not many humans could ever tame them. The question lingered in the air, heavy with curiosity.

Pragaya, ever the voice of authority, stood up, his commanding presence filling the arena. “Alright, students, that’s all for today. You may return to your dorms and rest for the remainder of the day. Classes will officially begin tomorrow.”

With that, the students began to filter out of the arena, still buzzing with excitement and confusion. Harchell, not one to miss an opportunity, leaned in and planted a kiss on Rai’s cheek, her voice dripping with affection. “I’ll be seeing you, darling.” She then strutted away, her movements graceful and composed, leaving the air heavy with the energy of her departure.

Rose, unfazed by the exchange, merely shrugged and turned on her heel, walking back to her room with a calm exterior, though inside, her mind was in turmoil.

Gale descended from the stands, his wind magic cushioning his landing as he effortlessly floated down. With a wide grin, he hoisted Rai onto his shoulders, both of them walking off the arena floor with smiles on their faces, the weight of the battle still lingering in the air.

Kromus and Pragaya exchanged a knowing look, the subtle approval in their gazes not lost on each other. Without a word, they, along with the other Deans, made their exit from the arena, the echoes of the day’s events slowly fading behind them.

In a world where magic is etched into the very essence of existence, a person’s power is reflected in their eyes. Flames, torrents, and storms rage within the irises of the mighty, and the elite four clans rule over this magical realm. But for Rai, a 12-year-old boy with ordinary eyes, life is anything but ordinary.

Despite being born without the gift of magic, Rai dreams of becoming the Elmag—the supreme leader of the four clans and the most powerful being in the land. His audacious goal is met with ridicule and skepticism at every turn, but Rai’s unshakable confidence and quirky charm make him a force to be reckoned with.

When Rai receives a mysterious invitation to the prestigious Magia Elemental Academy, the world’s greatest magic school, he steps into a whirlwind of intrigue, rivalry, and discovery. His arrival sparks chaos, as he openly declares his intentions to rise to the top and even boldly proclaims that the beautiful and fiery Rose Scarlett, daughter of the current Elmag, will one day be his wife.
