"That's true. Too many innocent people have suffered because of this war," she said with a cold and indifferent expression on her face. "Ah, I'm late in introducing myself, right? My name is Lilith Cloeden."
"Lilith Cloeden. Sounds familiar somehow. Since it's her surname, is she a noblewoman?"
Her words and demeanor were full of the arrogance and smugness one would expect from an aristocrat.
"My name is Emma. I don't have a surname," and when I smiled slightly, she frowned.
"No surname? So you're a commoner?" her reddish purple eyes widened when surprised. "Maria, why did my father allow me to be in the same cabin with a commoner?" she angrily snapped at the maid sitting beside her.
"My lady, Duke Cloeden, after the last incident-"
"What nonsense! Is he making fun of me?" she gritted her teeth. ‘What are you standing here for?’ she said, turning to me with angry eyes. "Get out of the cabin right now! I can't believe I'm in the same cabin with a miserable commoner like you!’ Although I was not impressed by her words, my gaze shifted to my reflection in the window.
The old woman in her forties in the train window was a woman of average beauty, although not as beautiful as the noble lady in front of me.
The grey hair between her black hair was like evidence of the difficulties she had experienced in life, and she had pitch-black eyes that drew you in. The fact that she had a somewhat frightening appearance with her pale and white skin was another matter.
'Still, I think I am beautiful in my own way. Besides, my clothes, although not as luxurious as hers, were of good quality and clean. This spoilt brat! If she knew how hard I had to go through to get this body, she wouldn't dare to tell me that!'
I took my eyes off my reflection and looked at the girl in front of me. "Are you deaf?! Didn't you hear what I said to you? Leave the cabin now!"
"I heard you loud and clear, Lady Cloeden," I said calmly as she finally stopped shouting and shut up. "But I have no intention of giving up this seat I bought so dearly."
"You-"
"Besides, isn't it more natural for the offended person to leave?" I looked at her with a sly smile. "Besides, it's quite interesting that the Great Duke Cloeden bought a third-class ticket for his only daughter," I said, and her angry face froze.
"Ah, I suppose the rumors were true," I smiled cruelly, "that all the Great Duke's love went to his illegitimate child..."
By the time I finished, her face was flushed and trembling with anger. Although I couldn't remember at first, I now remembered who this lady was, the famous lady who was in the tabloid columns of the newspapers with the trouble she caused.
'Lilith Cloeden.'
She was so famous that there were rumors that her name was known even in other kingdoms. But not in a good way. At the age of eighteen, she was the subject of constant rumors for her ruthlessness and outrageous behavior. Mostly because she was the only one in the Duchy of Cloeden, which had helped found the empire, that was incapable of magic.
Being the only incompetent in a house full of great talents probably caused her an inferiority complex. However, this was triggered by Alexandra, the illegitimate child of Duke Cloeden, who was two years older than her but half of her blood was commoner.
Thirty years ago, when everything in my world was falling apart and I was lost, I found myself in a different dimension.
I stole different bodies to survive, but I could not stay in any of them for more than four years.
Miraculously, however, the body I had just acquired seemed to match my soul. The only problem was that this person was hated by her family and many other people around her.
Would I be able to survive in the body of such a person and hide my identity?
