Reflection

Reflection

Feb 17, 2025

Unsurprisingly to Ruiying, Yueyan's grand entrance was met with a bleak and deafening silence. Ruiying began to wonder if this was the real reason why Yueyan had to stoop so low to gain the public's favor again. Although she did see Yueyan as pitiful for her failure, she honestly felt it was a good lesson for her to learn.

"Good morning, Luna, would you mind taking a seat?" To Ruiying's surprise, even the seemingly energetic writer was displeased with Yueyan's actions. He no longer wore a bright and innocent smile instead he had a serious facial expression as if he had been in the industry for decades. Perhaps, she would get along with him quite well but then again, Yueyan was now tied back to her. Anything Yueyan did would be a reflection of Ruiying despite their animosity to each other.

"Yes, right away." Yueyan only had an awkward smile plastered on her face as she sat down exactly three seats apart from Ruiying. She carefully placed the five boxes on the table before continuing.

"Thank you for having me. I brought breakfast as a sign of my goodwill. Although I did expect more people." Her tone was much less light than when she entered the room. However, Ruiying couldn't deny questioning the lack of promised co-stars.

"Your kind act is very appreciated Ms. Qin. As for the co-stars, they have yet to be decided. The company is currently hosting ongoing auditions for the remaining roles. Unfortunately, the shooting is still set to happen later next month. So, we must at the very least prepare our confirmed actors' understanding of their characters. " Wei's voice was much firmer and deeper when speaking. It was difficult to believe that the cold director in front of them had once let out a smile just minutes prior.

A sudden knock was placed at the door after a few moments Xu Jiashu entered along with another woman. That woman seemed to be the exact opposite of Jiashu, with long soft platinum hair, small rounded eyebrows, and light hazel eyes. However, they had one glaring similarity. They were wearing the same outfit, from the shoes and socks to the suit attire.

"Good Morning Mr. Zhang, Mrs. Li, and Mr. Huang. My name is Xu Jiashu, it is a pleasure to meet Mr. Zhang and Mrs. Li once more and an honor to meet Mr. Huang. I work under BlurryMix Studios as Ivy's manager, thank you for having me." Jiashu quickly bowed down and gave a warm and welcoming smile before taking the seat alongside Ruiying.

"Have you cleaned up your tears? I see no redness in your eyes, Ms. Xu," Ruiying whispered snarkily to work-Jiashu.

"I don't recall having shown Ms. Lin any unprofessional tears," replied Jiashu in a low voice, this time though, her smile carried a slight tone of annoyance.

"There's the woman who messaged me at my lowest hours," this time Jiashu's smile completely faded as she heard Ruiying finish her sentence.

"Good Morning Mr. Zhang, Mrs. Li, and Mr. Huang. My name is Wang Ruxue, I work under BlurryMix Studios as Luna's manager. I am very pleased and look forward to working with all of you. Thank you for having me." Ruxue bowed even further than Jiashu had done and smirked before sitting down next to Yueyan.

Ruiying almost let out a sarcastic laugh, even Yueyan's manager had more manners and professionalism than Yueyan herself.

"Now that we are all here, let us give you a quick introduction to today's topic. My name as most of you know is Zhang Wei, I will be the director of ReTry," Wei's voice carried a hint of sarcasm when he threw out the word, most.

"My name is Li Minghua and I will be the producer of ReTry."

"And lastly, my name is Huang Yifeng. I am the writer of ReTry. We sent out the drafts of the series to you through e-mail. As you know, the series is about a cold and repentful architect who left her lover to further her business. She regrets her actions and after years of separation returns to her now ex-lover to beg for forgiveness and a chance to work together. Although her lover wishes to deny the invitation, she understands the stepping stone it is in her own artistic career. She takes the job and although she does not want to admit it, there are still unresolved feelings left for her heartless lover. During their time together, they understand the circumstances that led to their breakup and are willing to 'ReTry' their relationship having matured as people," he puts down his stack of papers and faces Yueyan.

"So Luna, what are your thoughts on your character?"

For a moment Yueyan's face faltered but it quickly gained back its original annoying shape. Yueyan reached into Ruxue's bag and took out her script of ReTry.

"My character is Lu Anning. She is the abandoned lover who grew a backbone yet not one strong enough to withstand her heartless lover. What more is there to say about her, she's pathetic...Still, her actions match up with the circumstances of their breakup. Her heartless lover was a coward who ran after their first real fight to pursue her career and didn't even bother breaking up. Of course, Anning would have been curious as to why she did such a thing. She must also have felt hatred that her cowardly lover all of a sudden got the courage to fix everything after it was already far too broken." Yueyan scoffed at the last words that came out as she met Ruiying's gaze.

"Interesting perspective, then Luna, what do you think about Ivy's character?"

"Oh, the heartless coward Xia Yanzhi! She is even more pathetic than Anning. She was the one who chose to run away and when she became lonely she came crawling back to Anning. However, she is also quite intelligent. She knew that Anning would most likely not want to see her annoying face and came up with a plan that would be difficult for Anning to refuse. She was honest and upfront with Anning after their relationship was gone. When she realized that Anning also held some feelings other than hatred towards her, she became a lovesick fool."

"So do you think that Yanzhi took advantage of those unresolved feelings Anning had?"

"No, I think she took advantage since the deal Anning couldn't refuse." Yueyan seemed proud of her quick-witted response. Yet the writer did not seem quite convinced.

"How about you, Ivy? Who is Xia Yanzhi?"

"She is someone who experienced growth only after her separation from Anning. Anning held her back and she didn't want to admit it until it was too late. Hence why she didn't admit it at all, she just left. And although Luna would disagree, Anning isn't a little angel who was pulled by Yanzhi's strings it was the other way around."

"In what way? Yanzhi didn't even try to make the relationship work she just left without a single goodbye." Yueyan responded to Ruiying before the writer could.

"Yanzhi brought up the topic. She got a job overseas that would immensely help her career. She told Anning that, and what did Anning say?"

"..."

"Nothing. She said nothing, she stopped talking to Yanzhi in hopes of letting the situation cool down. As a result, Yanzhi took it as a rejection and isolated herself as well. She made one last attempt at reconciliation and Anning avoided it. As you said, Yanzhi is smart, she had to choose between a dead-end relationship and a guaranteed career. Luna, do you really think Yanzhi is the only one at fault?"

"A dead-end relationship? Reconciliation? What type of reconciliation is as ambiguous as what Yanzhi wrote? In fact, to me, it looked like a breakup note. If Yanzhi wasn't such a coward, it wouldn't be a dead-end relationship."

"Really? Because the coward looks like Anning who took everything like a joke instead of trying to empathize with her lover. She then had the audacity to act hurt when it bit her in the ass."

"Well, what else is she supposed to do when her lover acts like she doesn't like her overnight? Is she supposed to make a scene and only hurt each other more? She took it lightly because if she was honest, Yanzhi would've broken up with her as if it was nothing!"

"If she found their relationship that unstable then you admit it was a dead-end relationship!"

This time Ruiying raised her voice in return to Yueyan. As she looked at the three individuals sitting in front of her she remembered where and who she was. She wasn't a high schooler anymore, she wasn't just anyone, she was now someone with a reputation, she was Ivy. Ruiying sighed and welcomed back her blank expression.

"Anning was worried and insecure about their relationship! Yanzhi also needed to make an effort to comfort Anning! It wasn't solely her responsibility!" Yueyan's expression was almost pleading for Ruiying to understand her. However, Ruiying just pulled back her professional smile and turned back to Yifeng.

"Mr. Huang, I am very sorry that our conversation got out of hand. But I hope it may have served as help to me and my co-worker's understanding of our own and each other's characters."

"Yes, I am very pleased with how you and Luna understand Yanzhi and Annning. However, let's remember the professional environment we are in."

"Thank you, Mr. Huang. We once again apologize for the inconvenience."

As Ruiying finished her sentence she caught a glimpse of Yueyan. She seemed utterly defeated and with an almost burdening look of anger. However, Ruiying couldn't make such an expression back not even close. She felt nothing but she did wish that just for a second, Yueyan would understand her side.

Yueyan is a reflection of Ruiying, even if they are not at all the same. If one of them is filled with emotions then the other must balance it out with indifference. Even if she didn't start the argument, she took part in it and therefore must take the blame that goes along with it. In the end, the one at the top falls the furthest.

The community is ecstatic about the second IvyLuna project. Lin Ruiying, also known as Ivy, is the GL community's best of the best. With a multitude of awards under her stage name and projects, her work is recognized not only in the growing GL fandom but globally as well.

That is not the only impressive thing about her, as soon as she debuted, she released an article to the public revealing her sexual orientation. However, she has two strict rules.

1. No fanservice
2. No second projects with the same actor.

Her two rules are brought down by Qin Yueyan or as her fans know her, Luna. Unknown to fans they have a hateful and convoluted past.
