All my life, it's just been me and my dad. We live in Jayville Projects, a poor neighborhood. If you live in Jayville, you're either poor, a drug dealer, a drunk, a junkie, a gangbanger, or you've got too many kids. Can you guess which one my mom is? She's a gangbanger, but not just any gangbanger—she's the head of the baddest gang in Jayville. She runs the Glitter Pops. GP for short.
I don't think any of the boys or men in the gang know what "Glitter Pop" stands for, or maybe they do, and they're just scared of my mom. She left when I was a kid—about 8 years old. That's when my dad started drinking. My mom left because she was tired of the drug dealers selling to kids and making kids sell for them. So, she created the Glitter Pops. They'd supply the drug dealers with whatever they wanted, but only if they agreed to certain rules: never sell in front of schools or parks, never sell to kids, and never make kids sell drugs in Jayville. But that was then. Now, anyone can sell, as long as my mom makes money.I don't really talk to her. She sends her goons to check on me from time to time, but if it were up to me, I'd have nothing to do with her. I want to live a good life, get out of Jayville, and get my dad the help he needs. I know he loves me, but the liquor has a hold on him. When I need to get away from the family drama, I go hang out with Jess and Teto—they're my best friends.
