Chapter 10: She Is the Only Color
Chapter 10: She Is the Only Color
Jan 17, 2025
The zombie was dressed in a suit, holding a black briefcase in its hand, seemingly unaware of its surroundings. It must have been an ordinary office worker who had turned into a zombie when the apocalypse broke out. Sasha remained calm and raised her sleeve slowly. She was preparing to test the power of the wrist crossbow in her hand. But suddenly, she seemed to think of something and stopped. It was as though she hadn’t seen the zombie at all. She casually dodged its attack, tripping it to the ground. Then, she swiftly walked away. There’s a saying: "A rabbit doesn’t eat the grass by its nest." The zombies around this supermarket posed both a threat and a kind of barrier. If she killed all of them, it would clearly create an opportunity for others to come to the supermarket without fear. Not only would this attract countless annoying villains, but it could also bring in those who were too scared to leave their homes in search of food, yet skilled in moralistic shaming, demanding food. For example, “You have so much food, what’s the harm in giving us some?” Or, “I’m almost starving to death, how can you just stand by and watch me die?” Just thinking about it made her sick. Sasha even felt a little crazy, thinking that fewer zombies nearby might actually make things more dangerous. Avoiding the zombies around the supermarket, Sasha made her way down a small path, reaching a wide road several blocks away. The view was much clearer here, revealing the full extent of the desolation of the apocalypse. Dried blood stains, scattered newspapers, various pieces of garbage and drink bottles, broken weapons, shards of glass, and cars involved in a chain accident—some still emitting thick black smoke. A more densely packed group of zombies wandered through this chaotic and disorderly steel forest, creating a chilling sight. Although Sasha had seen the zombie apocalypse in movies, seeing it with her own eyes was a whole different shock. She had a faint feeling that the zombie outbreak was much more severe than she had imagined. A female zombie on the street corner noticed her, her stomach torn open. She had clearly been one of the unfortunate victims. The zombie screeched excitedly and staggered toward Sasha. A middle-aged male zombie nearby also heard the scream, and like it had received a signal, it turned toward Sasha, its face grotesque, half of it having been gnawed off. Sasha didn’t move forward but waited until they got closer to make her move. She didn’t want to alert more zombies. Raising her sleeve, she revealed a lace cuff that concealed a silver-gray metal wrist crossbow. It was time to act. “Whoosh!” “Whoosh!” Two silver flashes shot out from her sleeve as if they were lightning. The zombies’ foreheads were struck by the bolts, and they fell dead without a sound. Such speed, and the power was not small! Sasha was surprised. Initially, when she saw the size of the wrist crossbow, she was excited by its convenience but had doubts about its power. Now it seemed that she had overestimated her concerns. The crossbow bolts were nearly silent when fired, not drawing the attention of other zombies. Had she been using a gun, the entire street of zombies would have immediately turned and started chasing her. 【You killed a regular zombie, earned points *10】 【You killed a regular zombie, earned points *11】 The system’s voice rang in her mind. Hmm? Why did the second zombie give 1 more point? Sasha was puzzled. She remembered that the two zombies from the new player task each gave 10 points. She walked over, pulling the bolts out of the zombies’ heads and retrieving them. Then she focused on another zombie wandering by a car. Aiming, she shot. 【You killed a regular zombie, earned points *12】 Just as she expected! It seemed that after the new player task, killing zombies would give consecutive kill bonuses! Was it possible to stack these and get up to 100 or even 1000 points for a single zombie? That would bring high-end weapons within reach! She quickly started clearing zombies. Soon, she got the answer she was looking for. 【You killed a regular zombie, earned points *20】 【You killed a regular zombie, earned points *20】 The point bonus for consecutive kills maxed out at 20 and didn’t increase any further. It seemed that the system had already seen through her intention to exploit a point farming bug. Looking at the increasing number of zombies noticing her and heading her way, Sasha decided to stop for now; she didn’t want to waste too much energy here. 【Ding! Triggered regular task: Kill 50 zombies 0/50】 【Task reward: Extra points *1000, Low-level T-virus immunity capsule (3 hours) *1】 Just as she was about to leave, the annoying system prompt echoed in her mind. Sasha froze. So even this would trigger a task? This task not only rewarded 1000 points for killing 50 zombies but also gave an additional 1000 points and a free immunity capsule. It was a good deal. Seeing more and more zombies gathering, Sasha felt no fear. In her eyes, these seemingly terrifying zombies were just walking points. The titanium alloy wrist crossbow was slow in returning the bolts after firing. She reloaded the bolts from earlier but wasn’t planning to continue using it. It was time to get serious. Sasha looked at the approaching zombies, drawing out her dagger and taking the axe from her waist. She smiled with pleasure. ... Hearing the chaos downstairs from the zombies, a female office worker slowly climbed out of the luxurious hotel bed. She had been trapped here for several days. A few days ago, the zombie outbreak happened, and the streets were full of monsters that ate people. She hadn’t left the hotel room when it all started, and now the outside world was a living hell. She had been terrified. No matter how loud the banging on the door was, she refused to open it, curling up in the hotel room. Looking at the few remaining biscuits, she realized she had to adjust her eating schedule again. Being trapped like this was truly terrifying, and boring as well. Her only amusement was watching from the window to see which unlucky person would fall victim to the zombies. Today was no different. She was ready to reward herself with a biscuit for the “morning show” she had just heard. However, when she leaned toward the window, her eyes widened in shock, and she forgot to even bite the biscuit. She had never seen such a scene! A little girl, dressed in an exquisite dress, stood proudly in the midst of the zombie horde, looking out of place in this dark, blood-stained city street. With a dagger and an axe in her hands, she fought fiercely against the zombies, using a few cars and telephone booths as natural barriers. Rather than a battle, it was a one-sided massacre! The little girl moved through the zombies as easily as if she were strolling in a garden. Each time her dagger or axe struck, it pierced the zombie's brain, ending its life. The scene was so stunning, thrilling, and gory, yet filled with unmatched violent beauty. The little girl’s beautiful dress, now stained with blood, swayed with each movement, like a red rose with thorns. In this brutal and merciless apocalypse, she bloomed with strength and dominance. She was the only color in this grey-white world. Watching the last zombie fall, the office worker finally pulled her gaze away. Her biscuit, now forgotten, remained in her hand. She felt as though she had been inspired, her emotions stirred, unable to stay calm. She glanced at the dwindling biscuits and then at the tightly closed door. Finally, it seemed she had made up her mind to fight against something. She grabbed a dining knife, one from the luxury hotel’s small kitchen. Taking a deep breath, she approached the door and opened it...
The top assassin, Sasha, was preparing to retire but was targeted for elimination by the organization, only to find himself transported to a zombie apocalypse.
