Silent Storms

The Unexpected Wake-up Call

The Unexpected Wake-up Call

Jan 17, 2025

Minjun was jolted awake by the sound of someone knocking on his door. Groggily, he dragged himself out of bed, rubbing his eyes as he stumbled towards the door. When he opened it, he was met with the sight of Haruto standing there, looking as composed and immaculate as ever.

Minjun stared up at him, surprise evident on his face as he realized what time it was. "Mr. Sato... I didn't know you'd be picking me up so early," he said, his voice still thick with sleep. "And I definitely didn't expect you to come yourself."

Haruto's deep, velvety voice was calm and reassuring. "Good morning, Minjun. I thought it would be best if I personally escorted you to the mansion on your first day. It also gives us a chance to talk on the way."

Minjun nodded, feeling a mix of embarrassment and gratitude. "I... I appreciate it. Just give me a moment to get ready."

Haruto smiled, his dimples making another appearance. "Take your time. I'll be waiting."

As Minjun hurried to get dressed and gather his things, his mind raced with thoughts about the day ahead. This was his new beginning, and he was determined to make the most of it. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for whatever lay ahead, and joined Haruto outside.

As they stepped outside, Haruto led Minjun to a sleek black car parked by the curb. To Minjun's surprise, Haruto walked around to the passenger side and opened the door for him.

Minjun hesitated, looking at Haruto with a mix of confusion and respect. "Shouldn't I be opening doors for you, sir? I am going to be your butler starting today."

Haruto's deep, velvety voice was calm as he replied, "Today is an exception, Minjun. Consider it a gesture of welcome. Besides, it's important for me to show that I value and respect those who work for me."

Minjun nodded, feeling a mix of appreciation and determination. He slipped into the passenger seat, his nerves slowly settling. As Haruto closed the door and walked around to the driver's side, Minjun couldn't help but feel a sense of anticipation.

The drive was quiet, the hum of the engine the only sound breaking the silence. Minjun sat in the passenger seat, unable to stop his leg from bouncing nervously. He glanced over at Haruto, who was focused on the road, his expression calm and composed.

Minjun's mind drifted back to the awkwardly close moment they had shared the previous day. He could still feel the heat of Haruto's touch and see the intensity in his piercing blue eyes. The memory caused him to blush again, his cheeks warming as he replayed the scene in his mind.

"Stop it, Minjun," he muttered to himself, shaking his head slightly to clear his thoughts. "Focus on the job."

Haruto seemed to notice his discomfort and glanced over briefly, offering a reassuring smile. "Nervous about your first day?"

Minjun took a deep breath and nodded. "A little, yes."

"Don't worry," Haruto said, his deep, velvety voice soothing. "You'll do fine. Just be yourself and give it your best."

Minjun appreciated the encouragement and did his best to calm his nerves. This was his chance to prove himself, and he was determined not to let anything get in the way.

The drive continued in silence, with only the hum of the engine as a backdrop. Minjun's mind was still racing with thoughts of the upcoming day when Haruto broke the silence once more.

"Minjun," Haruto began, his voice deep and velvety, "I'd like to know a little more about you. What brought you to the city?"

Minjun hesitated for a moment, gathering his thoughts. "I moved here a few years ago to pursue better opportunities. The city had always seemed like a place where I could find something more—a chance to build a life and achieve my dreams."

Haruto nodded, his gaze remaining focused on the road. "And have you found what you were looking for?"

Minjun let out a small sigh. "It's been challenging, to be honest. I've faced a lot of ups and downs, but I'm hopeful that this new job will be a turning point."

Haruto glanced over at him, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "I appreciate your honesty, Minjun. It's important to face challenges head-on and learn from them. I believe you'll find your place here."

Minjun felt a sense of relief wash over him. "Thank you, Mr. Sato. That means a lot to me."

The conversation had eased some of Minjun's nerves, and as they approached the mansion, he felt a renewed sense of determination. This was his chance to make a fresh start, and he was ready to give it his all.

I like really it so far! I will give feedback only because you said it was cool, but will delete it after a couple of days.
It’s nicely paced and I’m beginning to get a feel for the characters. (Also is the boss-man mixed, or…?).
I will say the repeated description of how their actions/qualities come across (i.e., “deep, velvety” being used 3x here, or last episode his smile being repeatedly described as charming)…is redundant. And it is, personally, catching more of my attention than I’d like. I couldn’t tell if this was what Minjun focused on in his perception of Mr. boss-man, or if you were trying to drive home this characterization. Either way, it pull my focus away momentarily when it happens.
But yeah, overall these two are really growing on me and I’m excited to read more!
