It was already dark by the time they head out from the cave. Though, strangely enough, the night was brightly lit with the moon and thousands of stars flickering I the sky. Gantz silently followed Bear as they tracked through the mountains, to a place Gantz didn’t know of, but was convinced that it would be far from Bear’s cave.
Oh, how wrong he was.
At an area just about a few minutes’ walk (or trudge) from the cave, there was a small plain filled with wild flowers. The bluish ambience painted the rich colors of the flowers into a calming tinge of light blue, and the gust of wind felt stronger compared to the forest, yet felt more refreshing.
Bear halted abruptly in the middle of the plains, once again making Gantz bump into his thick brown coat.
Gantz groaned a bit as he slowly peeled himself off from Bear. He was definitely surprised, but if he wasn’t injured—due to how soft bear’s fur is—then there’s nothing he could retort about.
“Here.” Bear flatly motioned towards two sticks placed next to each other. On top of the sticks, there seemed to be trinkets decorated around them. One stick was hung with a flowery piece of clothing, while the other stick was hung with a necklace made with black fangs.
“This…” Gantz was quick on the uptake. He shot Bear a glance first, before returning it towards the two sticks. “They are your parents’ grave, right?”
Bear nodded passively in response.
In that moment, Gantz stayed silent as he studied Bear’s hard-to-read face, trying to guess what he’s thinking. Bear didn’t sound sad when he talked about his parents’ passing, and rather than sadly annotating his memories of his parents, he sounded pleasant, as if his parents are still alive.
Few minutes passed, and after a failed attempt at reading Bear’s face, Gantz expressed with a defeated snicker. He then stepped away from the grave and crouched down to the nearest flower bed. Bear was trailing Gantz’s activities the moment he began to step away, and when Gantz seemed to take some time, Bear was about to scoot closer to Gantz, when he suddenly stood up and sauntered back to Bear. Though, there was something in his hands.
Gantz silently went closer to the graves, and placed a flower necklace on top of each of them. Judging from the almost flat ground, it has been a while since Bear’s parents passed.
“The loops might look bad. It was done in a hurry after all, but there’s a bunch of beautiful flowers here, you see. I hope you enjoyed them.” Gantz spoke. It gained a fluttered eyes from Bear.
“Who are you talking to?” Bear asked, sounding genuinely curious.
That earned a stunned look from Gantz.
Why did he sound deeply curious when he asked that?
