Silent Storms

A Gentle Inquiry

A Gentle Inquiry

Jan 21, 2025

Haruto noticed the subtle sadness in Minjun's expression, something that hadn't escaped his keen observation. As they walked through the mansion, Haruto decided it was time to address it. He stepped closer to Minjun, placing a hand on his shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze.

"Minjun," Haruto began softly, his deep voice filled with genuine concern, "I've noticed that something seems to be bothering you."

Minjun looked up, surprised by the sudden touch and the concern in Haruto's eyes. "I'm fine, Haruto," he replied quickly, though his voice lacked conviction.

Haruto shook his head slightly, not convinced. "I want to make sure my staff is happy. It's important to me that you feel comfortable and supported here."

Minjun hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. The doubts and insecurities that had been swirling in his mind were not something he was used to sharing. But there was something in Haruto's gaze that made him feel safe, as if he could trust this man with his vulnerabilities.

"It's just..." Minjun started, trying to find the right words. "I'm not sure if I'm capable of meeting your expectations. I'm not as confident or imposing as you are. I'm worried I might not be good enough for this job."

Haruto chuckled softly at Minjun's words. "Confident and imposing? That's quite the impression. Honestly, there are times when my confidence is low too. I always thought of myself more like a teddy bear than anything else."

Minjun couldn't help but laugh a little at this revelation. The idea of Haruto, with his commanding presence, seeing himself as a teddy bear was both amusing and endearing. "You? A teddy bear? I find that hard to believe."

Haruto smiled warmly. "It's true. Everyone has moments of doubt. But what matters is how we handle them. And Minjun, you have every right to feel confident. You're capable and dedicated."

Minjun felt a surge of gratitude and warmth at Haruto's words. Without thinking, he blurted out, "And you're a good-looking man."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Minjun's cheeks burned with embarrassment. He quickly looked away, mortified by his own slip.

Haruto's eyebrows shot up in surprise, but then he chuckled softly, his deep voice filled with amusement. "Well, thank you, Minjun. I appreciate the compliment."

Minjun couldn't bring himself to look up, still feeling the heat of his embarrassment. "I'm sorry. That was inappropriate."

Haruto's hand on his shoulder gave another reassuring squeeze. "There's no need to apologize. It's good to hear what people think, even if it's unexpected."

Before they continued to walk on, Haruto smiled his charming smile and said, "And just so you know, you're not bad looking yourself, Minjun."

Minjun's blush deepened, and he stuttered as he tried to thank Haruto. "Th-thank you, Mr. Sato."

The use of "Mr. Sato" caused Haruto to stare at him in a way that Minjun couldn't quite place. Haruto's eyes looked him over with an intensity that made Minjun's heart race. Minjun noticed the subtle way Haruto bit his lower lip before turning around to continue their walk.

Author Note: Fun question - why do you think Haruto Sato doesn't want Minjun to call him 'Mr. Sato'?

I think Haruto already knows he’s going to make a move on Minjun. If Minjun develops the habit of formally addressing him, it’ll distant him and be hard to break.
