Terrible Secrets

Chapter Three

Chapter Three

Jan 23, 2025

My life in the orphanage was okay for a few months, but they eventually started the ‘medication tests,’ as they called them. They claimed the tests were harmless to our health and bodies, and that they were just for new medicines for diseases, but I had a feeling they were just using us to test things that weren't medicines for God knows what. They started off okay but they got worse, using more doses of medication. Somehow the medications did something to stop me from seeing Olivia, though I was beginning to believe she was a hallucination, maybe I was crazy too. The tests were horrid and painful, half of them we were asleep for but the others, I can only describe as torture. Blood drawing of unimaginable doses, injections of God knows what, being fed meals they modified with something we weren't told, it's like we were rats, only meant for experimentation and not real human children with emotions and feelings. They lied about it not harming or health or bodies too. I was lucky, nothing more permanent than an ugly white patch of hair, but some children were not as lucky as me, I won’t even go into detail. I found folders with pictures of some of them though, I wonder why they had them, or what they did with them. Sometime during this I became friends with a girl named Florence Williamson. She was a girl who was older than me, maybe nine or ten years old, with long blond hair that I envied, better than the dark mess of black curls I possessed, I thought, even worse with the patch of white in my hair. Her eyes were a hazel color and her skin was tanned, though it looked an ashen gray most of the time. The tests were horrid but we tried to stay positive. Although with how unbelievably cruel they treated us, scarcely even giving us food, I feared we would die of the testing or even starvation. Surely enough Florence died of the medication tests, (not so harmless, is it.) I was so lonely during the final tests, I had no friends now that Florence had died a few weeks prior, and I couldn't even talk to Missus Nellie, as only certain staff could see the tested children, I’m not sure why, and we could only see each other. But I hope that maybe Florence met Olivia, wherever the dead goes beyond our world, they would be fond of each other, I would assume.
