The Dawn of the New Golden Dragon

Eyes of Foresight

Eyes of Foresight

Jan 24, 2025

It is time for lunch at Edward High School. It is Alexander Griffin's, also by Alex for short, first day of sophomore year. Alex feels a little depressed after moving to a new city again. This time, his family moved to San Francisco, California.

Feeling out of place whenever he enters a new city and new schools, his mother always said, "It's never an adventure if you don't try new things."

Sighing at the thought.

As he walked into the cafeteria to find a seat, one of the cheerleaders bumped into him without looking. Knocking all the books to the floor, they bent over to pick them up. Just as Alex touched one of the books, he began to feel lightheaded and saw flashes of lights flickering before his eyes.

Coming in a spectrum of colors, Alex starts seeing something like a vision, something you would see in a science fiction show. Alex sees her in the cafeteria getting sick because of something she ate; he also sees her at the locker putting away a strange pen that says, "For an allergic reaction."

Just as suddenly as it appeared, the vision vanished, and Alex returned to the present. Alex returned her book; he told her to be careful, trying to explain what he saw. However, Alex stutters so severely when he speaks that she believes that he is an idiot, so she just ignores him and goes to sit with her friends.

"I forgot, cheerleaders are rude to the unpopular kinds," Alex says to himself.

Alex has never had "visions" before. His mind is spinning, and he thinks he might be a freak. Alex sees this all the time in the movies. The hero saves the day because everyone believes him, but in Real Life, Alex sounds delusional, and she thinks he's grown a new head.

It felt so real. Alex sat at the table, a bit close to her, fearing what he saw might happen. Just then, two boys arrived to sit at the same table, but on the opposite side, they looked like a group of skaters, and Alex overheard them mentioning something about the school's elite embarrassing moments.

"Dude, you'll never guess what I witnessed in the boy's locker room yesterday," the first skater says.

"Really, what did you witness?" the other boy asks.

"Get this. One of our football players was opening his locker, and I saw him hugging a stuffed bunny before practice," the first skater answers, "And today, I snuck a picture and sent it to the school's newspaper club."

Both boys laughed at it, thinking it was all fun and games, when they heard someone walking by the two skaters.

"Well, I'd heard that one of our cheerleaders, Victoria, I believe that's who it is; she's allergic to peanuts," one of the prep girls chimes in behind the boys.

"Peanuts!" Alex shouts to himself.

Whipping his head, Alex fixed his gaze on the cheerleader he had bumped into. He saw some peanut shavings within the layer of her sandwich. Just as she took a significant bit of her sandwich, she began to choke within one minute. Alex grabbed one of the nearest students to run and get the nurse he hoped would still be in her office.

All the students nearby start freaking out as she begins to fall to the ground, struggling to get some air. With haste, the student who went to fetch the nurse arrived; she fell on her knees, trying to tend to her.

"Oh no, what happened?" the nurse asks out of her thoughts, "Does she have an epi-pen?"

With haste, Alex jolted out of the cafeteria and headed to Victoria's locker to grab her epi-pen. Running from one building to the next, where all the sophomore class lockers are, Alex remembered seeing her a few times at her locker, and he finally found it. However, he forgot that student lockers have a combo lock to open them.

"Great, now what!" Alex shouted to himself.

Just as he touches Victoria's locker out of anger, his head feels lightheaded once again. In flashes, Ales sees Victoria moving her number dials, and the flashes fade away once he sees the combo and opens it. Returning to where he was before, Alex moves the locker dial, and it opens.

"Okay, this is getting very creepy," Alex says.

Just as Alex began looking for Victoria's epi-pen, within five minutes of haste searching, he was able to find it. Once Alex closes her locker, he starts running back toward the cafeteria. The crowd got worse by the minute, so Alex tried to get through everyone, hoping he still had time to save her.

Within five more minutes of moving around students, Alex could see the clearing where the nurse was, and Victoria was still barely holding on. Once he could escape the crowd, Alex rushed over and activated the epi-pen with a last push, swiftly inserting it into Victoria's skin.

Suddenly, within three minutes, "*cough, cough*" Victoria gasps.

She was able to breathe again, and everyone was happy and cheering that she was alright; the nurse was just shocked to see a student rushing over and poking her with the epi-pen. The nurse helped her and took her back to the nurse's office for further check-up.

Once things calmed down, Alex started to think about what had just happened. His "vision" came true. He could see into the future, feeling overwhelmed by all this. Alex started to wonder if this would happen again.

The sixth period has begun. It's English, and the class is working on a lesson on nouns and pronouns.

"Ugh, this is dull," Alex yawns to himself.

Their teacher, Mrs. Baker, gives a rigorous, mean stare and posters in both situations. Just as the class is about to start, the doors open, and Victoria walks in. Feeling better from her allergy attack, she hands in her nurse's note and sits at the empty desk. To Alex's surprise, the empty desk is beside him just as she sits down. Alex sees her leaning over toward him.

"Thanks for saving me," Victoria whispers.

"You're welcome," Alex whispers back.

"My name is Victoria," Victoria adds, "What's yours?"

"It's Alex," Alex replies, absent-mindedly trying to still focus on the lecture.

The remaining class was long and tedious. Mrs. Baker spoke like a cross between a robot and a statue. Alex nodded intermittently, but hearing her talk was so monotone that he fell asleep.

Suddenly, Alex hears something strange, snapping him out of his "nap." Glancing around the classroom, he saw that he hadn't been disturbed before he dosed off from Mrs. Baker's lesson.

"Okay, that's weird," Alex says to himself.

Returning to the lesson, however, Alex starts hearing something again. It sounds like a creepy child's laughter, and, by creepy, Alex is thinking like a raspy nail on a chalkboard.

Trying to find where it's coming from until he hears it again, Alex looks up at the corner of the ceiling and sees a little flying creature. It has two small stubby-like horns on its head, a stubby little tail on its tailbone, a tiny little hove for feet like a baby lamb, and tiny bat-like wings on its back. The body is green like wasabi; Alex tries to focus on what he sees, but his eyes almost pop out in shock once he can. What he is seeing is an imp.

"HOLD THE PHONE!" Alex shouts in his head.

"What is going on? First, I get visions, and now I'm seeing demons?" Alex asks in his head.

Squeezing his eyes shut, Alex rubs them in three rotations once he slowly opens his eyes. Hoping that this was just a bad dream when he woke up from a nap (which no one should take in class); however, with no such luck, the imp is still visible and laughing again.

Alex grabs some paper and rolls it into a ball without anyone looking at him. Seeing that everyone is busy in a quiet study and seeing his chance, Alex throws the paper ball at the imp. Once it makes contact, seeing him get hit on the wall, the paper ball suddenly falls, landing right on Mrs. Baker's lap.

"Who threw this paper ball?" Mrs. Baker asks, shouting in the classroom.

The students looked at each other, trying to determine who threw it until Alex raised his hand and stood up for everyone to see.

"I did, Mrs. Baker. I wanted to see if I could shoot a basket with the trash can from here, but I somehow missed," Alex says, hoping everyone bought that.

"Well, now, Mr. Griffin, is this how we start our new school year?" Mrs. Baker asks, getting up from her desk.

Seeing her walking toward Alex, she's like a lioness on the hunt, and her prey is Alex.

Mrs. Baker adds, "I thought you wanted to give a better impression since your last school gave such high reviews of you."

Alex sees her turn around and walks back to her desk. " We at Edward High School expect more from you than throwing paper at your teachers," she warns, tossing the ball in the trash can.

"Yes, ma'am," Alex replies, sweat dripping off his brow.

Class is almost over; Alex has been looking around and hasn't seen that imp for a while now, feeling relief that it's gone. He hears the sinister laugh again and looks up; he sees it flying with a heavy water balloon.

"What the? How the heck did he get a water balloon? I hope that's its water," Alex says in panic mode.

It was struggling to hold on, so Alex got off his desk and headed to the front of the classroom, pretending to sharpen his pencil.

"Okay, but what now? If I tell anyone, they think I'm psycho. why is this happening to me?" Alex talks to himself, rattling his brain.

Suddenly, hearing a panic sound from above, Alex looks up and sees that the imp can't hold the balloon anymore. Falling as fast as he does with gravity. Alex rushes over to catch it.

"Please don't pop," Alex says multiple times while panicking.

Just in time, Alex catches the balloon; as luck would have it, it didn't pop. Alex was sighing with relief that he had made it in time; however.

"Mr. Griffin, what do you think you're doing?" Mrs. Baker asks in an angry tone.

Alex realizes that he's right next to Mr. Baker, and seeing that the balloon is right above her, he's thinking fast about what to say. Without noticing, before he could respond to her, he was right on the other side of the balloon. The imp makes eye contact with Alex, not knowing what this starring contest is for, until Alex sees the imp giving a sinister grin.

(POP!)

"SHREEK!" Mrs. Baker squeals.

Shocked by what just happened, Mrs. Baker is soaked from the water balloon that popped right above her. All the students are laughing at her. Alex is still unsure what happened until he sees the imp laughing while holding a needle a seamstress uses for sowing.

"That's it!" Mrs. Baker screams.

"To the principal's office, now!" Mrs. Baker adds, with an angry expression all over her face.

"But I didn't do that, Mrs. Baker," Alex replies, trying to plead his innocence.

However, Mrs. Baker won't have it or listen to reason since the students still laugh at her. She gets up from her chair and grabs Alex by his wrist. They start heading outside the classroom, straight toward the principal's office.
