“Are those all the things that you wanted to bring?” Gantz shot an astonished stare at Bear. Bear flapped his ears. On him—strapped on a mere cross pouch—were the items that he thought of bringing to his adventure with Gantz.
Gantz repeated again, “Are you sure those are all the things that you wanted to bring?” With a raised eyebrow.
“Gantz told Bear to bring precious stuff, so Bear brings precious stuffs.” Bear simply replied.
To which, caused Gantz to pass a look at Bear’s pouch—while Bear stood in front of him—and his huge inventory bag—next to him, and back to Bear’s pouch.
“Alright.” Gantz brushed his grey hair back and stepped closer to Bear. “Show me what you got in there.”
The two of them sat at the fireplace area. While Bear was unearthing his small pack, Gantz eyed Bear’s items one by one. Some of the items are things that Gantz have seen during his short stay; some small containers, presumably filled with herbs and spices in each of them respectively, and a big worn-out comb. Other than that, he can see some crude looking handmade band aids, and a number of berries.
“Are these all the things that you wanted to bring? And you even have berries.” Gantz picked up a berry into his view. “What about clothes? Or money, as we speak?” Gantz glanced up towards Bear. His expression told Gantz about his confusion, in which he replied in return.
“Does Bear have to wear clothes?”
That question sent Gantz into a deep pondering, and short grunts here and there, as he searched for the rationale of that question.
“Well, in general, some races grow less hair on their body compared to other races. Which, in return, makes wearing clothes become one of the top priorities.” Gantz then patted his chest. He was wearing a deep brown tunic, and a pair of black pants. “Take me, for an example. I’m a goblin, and my race has less hair compared to, well, maybe beastmen or something, which is why I wear clothes.”
Bear tilted his head. He was obviously still confused even after that explanation. Fair enough, in his area, there’s barely anyone around but animals, and there’s no need to wear clothes especially when he has a thick coat covering his body.
“Well, to put it simply, clothes are there as a form of manners for some people. And for some, a form of protection. There are people who doesn’t wear clothes, but it’s better to wear them. And…” Gantz motioned at himself. “Doesn’t wearing a piece of clothes make you feel reassured for some reason?”
Bear’s beady eyes sparkled. A memory of his mother smiling at him, as she wore a cream oversized one piece, and a furry scarf draped over her shoulders. Her warm smile had a similar energy to Gantz’s awkward yet friendly smile. He then nodded at Gantz.
“…Bear has no clothes, but.” Bear stood up and trotted back to his cave, which he had covered with a huge boulder. He pushed the boulder aside, and went inside the cave for a moment, then came back with orange colored flowery scarf, and a small knife made of stone.
“This is Mama’s favorite scarf, and this is Papa’s favorite tool. Bear will bring these.” Bear flatly said while he stuffed the items in his pack. Gantz couldn’t help but chuckle at Bear’s amusing acts.
“Alright then.” Gantz stood up. “Shall we start our journey then?”
