Part 1: A spark ruined everything

"I don't think this is a good idea."

"And it isn't."

Alice marched ahead. The people of this city became nothing but blurry silhouettes. Rocks that stood in her way.

She forced herself to view them as rocks. For she believed they were nothing else. They protested and wanted justice for those citizens. But for how long? Until they were tired of fighting, tired of corruption, tired of 'knights.'

What was knighthood anymore? As a child she both kids and adults believed that they were more than soldiers.

They were symbols.

Symbols that fought for chivalry, hope, and for everyone to have a happy ending.

Now she knew that the ‘everyone’ they talked about were those above. Those who refused to look down on all the blood that they made flow like rivers.

She thought of Nexus.

She still didn't like him. She wondered is she ever did. It may be true that he didn't 'kill' Miroslav. That what happened to him could have been something out of his control.

Still she was angry. She wanted to be angry. Why wasn't she angrier?

He dared to act so kind and gentle, selfless despite his position. Yet he still claimed that position.

He wanted the riches, power, privilege all handed to him on a golden plate. Gold miners died to bring them.

There could not have been another reason. Absolutely not.

"We're here."

The house was one step in front of her. She remembered how she confessed her secret to William. Who let her in regardless. When Sun revealed his self and the two became friends. The conversations she had with Nobody.

She was able to remember all that yet the name escaped her.

If she were home she’d cry. Her mother next to her, who told her it was all a dream. A dream that came true and ruined everything.

“Ally!” Before she was able to knock on the door, she heard Zuri shout.

“Are you alright? What happen-”

“Don’t!” She crawled on the ground when Zuri tried to hug her.

“...Ally?”

“Alice! Are you alright?”

“I-I’ll be fine.” She lied.

The two children were still careful around her. Their hands were ready to support Alice. She did not hold them.

“Where’s your dad?”

“He went to look for you. We haven’t seen you in days. Did something happen?”

“I...” When she tried to think of an excuse, her vision got a hold of people who stared at her.

How much did they see? What things have they said about about her?

She stared at her hands. No traces of flames or sparks. Still, did they get suspicious? Did they assume? That it was her.

Zuri and Sun were speaking. Their voices were nothing but noise that had tangled up with the people’s stares and her thoughts.

Her legs took control and she left the street. Good, she thought. Zuri knew she was alright so there was no reason to see him too. And Sun was smart enough to come up with an excuse.

She needed to head back to Ryad’s place. There was no longer a need to deal with this.

“Dear!?”

That voice broke her.

“Is it you?” William held her shoulder, “Where were-”

“I’m sorry!”

As she pushed his arm away, flames blinded the kind man and worse of all, people saw that.

“Guards!”

Many yelled at the same time.

“Oh no,” William tried to grab her arm, “Hurry, before they catch you! Otherwise they’ll think you murdered that man.” She did nothing but stay quiet.

“Dear?”

“Please go.”

“What?”

“Go already!”

“Hold on I’ve taken you in. I refuse to-”

Neither of them realized how loud they were until her hands were under shackles.

“As a suspect of murder you’re under arrest.” Alice let them. She followed along.

“Hold on!”

William came and stopped the soldiers.

“This is ridiculous. There was no proof that she was a suspect!”

”Her powers are proof enough.”

“As if! She’s a child. She wouldn’t...”

He got quiet. Until their gazes met

“That night...you did do it didn’t you?”

“That night?”

“On it.”

William had his cane taken away and his hands were under shackles too.

“This is for hiding a suspect.”

No.

“You don’t understand! I didn’t-”

Didn't know? Didn't do it? Didn't care? Alice didn't wait for William to finish. For her blazing hair had met with the gray sky.
