Bear never knew that a fish can be made into that many dish. After he agreed to having some meal, Gantz ordered some food for him, which consisted of mostly fish dishes, yet strangely enough, there are fish in thick broth, fish covered in batter and fried, fish that are grilled and smelled heavenly, and fish in spicy sauce.
There are also other animals that he could eat. Gantz told him that it was chicken, but Bear never knew that chicken could taste so delicious. He only remembered them tasting slightly gamey, not to mention how hard it is to cook it with all the feathers.
And meat. Meat is good. Nothing else, period.
“Ah, that was some great meal, huh, Bear? I feel like my stomach is about to burst anytime.” Gantz patted his stomach, which doesn’t seem like it would explode like he had said. It did look a bit round though.
Bear heaved Gantz’s bag and adjusted his sling bag. Then he replied, “Thank you for the meal. That was the best meal Bear had after a long time.”
Gantz showed a thumbs up at Bear and chirped a “No problem!”
The two of them then resumed walking.
“Because it’s already evening, we will stay in this village for one night before heading out again tomorrow-” Gantz noticed Bear stopped walking. He looked up to Bear’s face and noticed him staring in a direction. Curious, he followed Bear’s gaze.
“Oh.” Gantz muttered.
“I’ve told you many times not to steal, don’t I?!” A shrill voice erupted from the said direction. There, at a shop filled with mostly greens and a mix of colorful floras, a little child was lying on the ground hopelessly, while they faced the wrath of a middle-aged lady, presumably the storekeeper.
“Why would you want to steal herbs rather than food? At least be like other kids who knows what they’re doing-”
“Whoa there, missus.” Gantz spoke, while he shielded the poor girl in an embrace.
Bear jolted in his motion. That was when he realized that Gantz had sprinted to the shop before he could even react.
“I know that stealing is indeed bad. But we never know what this kid wants to do with it, right?” Gantz said in a nonchalant tone. At the same time, bear trotted quickly to Gantz’s side.
The shopkeeper—who was taken aback by Gantz’s appearance—now snickered.
“If you saw him crushing the herbs on rocks, you wouldn’t say that.” She then muttered in spite. “Just go while I’m being nice now. You’re lucky that someone wanted to help you this time.” She then glared. “Wait until I get you next time.”
Gantz helped the little kid stood up. As a goblin, Gantz was known to still be on the shorter side compared to other races—despite being one of the tallest goblins out there. Yet, the kid—a boy with slightly pale skin—next to him barely stood up to his shoulders, not to mention them being malnourished.
The kid—still in tears—held a handful of herbs tightly in his hands.
