Veilborn: Rise of the Shadow heir

Chapter 018 - The Shadows

Chapter 018 - The Shadows

May 08, 2025

Further away in the Twilight Sea, 100 Kilometers away from the Kingdom of Nevan. In a Kingdom known as the Kingdom of Nyrelith. There are men in white and gold robes, shipping goods into the cargo as the rain is pouring. Six people in black robes walk towards the Cargo ship, all carrying a ten-foot coffin.

"Are you sure this is okay? It may trigger another Iron Pact war since Nevan is one of the Quads of Power," one of the men in white robes said.

"It is what Lord Nyxis desires and what your King has agreed on, or are you willing to disobey?" said one of the men in black robes.

"No, we know very well we cannot defy the Shadow Coven. May the will of the Shadow God Alastair Voss."

"Very well, wish us luck. Because what's in this coffin is a very important project of ours and hope it does succeed. Initiating phase one," the robed man said with a purple glow coming from the right eye socket of his mask.

In Kael's room in the first-year dormitory in the City of Nethrys, Kael is doing pushups with one finger whilst Alastair browses through his computer.

"Ha, the world sure has changed in a thousand years. There's no peace but it's much better than when we raided," Alastair said.

"Here you go with your ranting," Kael said.

"The camp is tomorrow, who knows what kind of training you'll be going through," Alastair said.

"It won't be like with your time I'm sure of it. The goal is to get stronger and find a way to separate each other. Then I can proceed with my goal," Kael said.

"I always wondered how you were going to go about that mission. There are two ways to it, and that's to slaughter the people and force oppression on them, or..."

"I know that already. I'm still deciding on that. I haven't made up my thoughts yet," Kael said.

'Oh lad, I who was able to burn my own soul to gain a new life have never felt like this. You think your powers are mine but they are yours. We're just the same coin but different sides. I really don't look forward to what's to come,' Alaistair said as his shadow was a creature with horns and Kael's shadow a serpent.

In the Asta Academy's training grounds, Ada hides behind the dummies, holding her arm, panting hard, and having scratches all over her body.

* She is dressed in a black tank top t-shirt, with black tracksuit pants, and white sneakers.

'It really is impossible... I am no match for her...'

"What's this, Ada? You ask me to train, and you start hiding? How pathetic," Elowen, who is walking towards the dummy, says.

Elowen cloaks her wooden sword in green flames and swings a slash. Ada manages to evade it but the dummies get slashed in half.

"The Heiliger family has always created warriors because we're not cowards that love to hide," Elowen said.

Ada cloaks her wooden sword in pink flames and comes out of hiding with a pink glow coming from her eyes. She swings a slash wave at Elowen but Elowen easily deflects it, causing Ada to jolt. Elowen appears before Ada with a green glow coming from her eyes.

"You bring shame upon the family."

Ada falls to her butt and as Elowen thrusts at her, the timer goes off forcing the sword to stop at a centimetre away from Ada's throat.

"..." Elowen looked at Ada, who was panting hard, and said, "What a shame; it's already over." She threw the wooden sword to the side and added, " I can tell you've slightly grown stronger. It must be the influence of Kael Voss. But you're still not strong enough to be called a Heiliger."

Elowen grabs her jacket, places it on her shoulder, and walks away leaving Ada on her knees.

"Don't call me for something like this ever again. Clean up the mess here," Elowen said.

Elowen shuts the door, Ada is kneeling with both knees down and hands gently resting on her thighs as she looks at her system window.

'You're telling me all that time I spent training was for slight growth?'

'Why am I so weak? My stats are high compared to most but I'm still weak. Just what is the difference between myself and I?' Ada clenches her fist, has a frustrated look on her face, and says, 'I wonder how Kael is doing?'

In the Capital City of Arkport, in the State of Arkwell, Nevan, the cargo ship sent by the Kingdom of Nyrelith arrives at the city's port. The members of the naval defense unit present stop the cargo and guide it to the port. As the rain keeps pouring, the deck department from Nyrelith unloads the goods off the ship, and the ship captain heads out to talk to the commander of the naval defense unit present.

"Based on your flag, I can tell you're from Nyrelith. And I see the goods you've brought are gold, diamonds, and books that help one unlock fourth-tier magic. Looking at the destination, it's headed for Ish," the unit commander said.

"That's right. All these goods come from the Church of Nyrlith, sent to Duke Edmund Wyrmswood, Duke of Eldoria. To trade things from the port per the Nevan laws, we were supposed to come to the Kingdom's only harbor. Agreements and payments have already been made," the ship captain of the cargo ship said.

"Right, if you would allow us to inspect your goods before we send it to Duke Edmund," the Unit Commander said.

"Knock yourselves out."

The naval team present begin inspecting every good brought by the Nyrelith team. The last item to be brought out of the ship is a white and gold ten-feet coffin.

"That coffin is awfully strange, and the aura it's eluding. Just what could be in there?" the Unit Commander questioned.

"We were just instructed to take the goods to the City of Ish, per the orders our Priest and Duke Edmund. We were following orders so we know nothing of what's in there," the Ship captain said whilst drinking a bottle of alcohol.

"That coffin is suspicious. By the orders of the Duchess Sophia Lancaster, we are to inspect that coffin," the Unit Commander said.

"Hey! Wait! Those packages aren't to be opened!"

The other Naval Defense members all point the Ship captain with guns. The members of the cargo ship draw out their swords, wands, and daggers and the Ship captain initiates one command.

"Stop. We're businessmen, we're much better than this. It's okay for them to be cautious, they're just doing their job."

"Thank you for understanding," the Unit commander said.

The unit commander walks up to the coffin and the men clear the way. As he's about to touch the coffin, a bright blinding light appears, illuminating the whole port. As the light dies down, the Naval defense members remain silent for a few seconds with their eyes looking like the soul left the body. As they come to, the Unit Commander said...

"There's nothing wrong with the coffin, the strange aura is gone. Sorry for doubting you, we'll call up the cargo train to have them send your goods to Ish."

"There was no need to interfere, Ms. Xyrenia. The coffin was protected by a powerful spell that you placed on it," the Ship captain said.

"That would just make things more suspicious and you'll be killed on the spot. Be thankful I intervened," says a woman with pink hair who appears out of the Ship Captain's shadow.

* The woman is dressed in a black and crimson cloak (Exterior black, interior crimson), underneath the cloak is  a sleek, fitted long coat with a slightly flared bottom for movement. Crimson runes glow faintly along the hem and cuffs. The coat features a high spiked collar, with slim, sharper shoulder guards compared to the men’s version, evoking elegance and menace. A waist cinch emphasizes the silhouette, with thorn-like detailing along the seams. A fitted corset-style tunic with leather panels running diagonally across the torso. This layer adds a sense of dark mystique and highlights the figure while remaining functional. ○ The corset is reinforced with subtle black steel boning, with small thorn motifs etched into its surface. Form-fitting leggings or leather pants with reinforced thigh guards, combining mobility and style. High-heeled combat boots with glowing red soles. The heels have a pointed, blade-like design, serving as both fashion and weaponry. Fingerless black gloves with thorn engravings. A choker or necklace featuring the crescent moon and vine insignia, glowing faintly when activated by magic.

"Nyxis sure is careful," the Ship captain said while trying to force the last bit of alcohol into his mouth.

"We don't want this to be a failure. Because this might be the first time we succeed in bringing forth one of the Shadow realm pantheon," Xyrenia said.

"So what do we do now?" the Ship captain asked.

"Your job ends here. Here is your full payment. We'll take care of the rest," Xyrenia said as a system window appeared before her. She pulled a bag of money from the inventory and handed it to the Ship's Captain.

The Captain opened the bag, started counting the money, and said, "Heh heh, one million Astraltz (ATZ) in full. I don't know where your bunch gets their money, but this can sustain me for two months to three months."

"Just make sure to keep whatever we're doing here a secret," Xyrenia said.

"It's business so you don't have to worry about it."

Xyrenia disappears into the shadows. Meanwhile in the City of Elyndral, State of Eldoria, in the Duke's mansion. Duke Edmund is from a call and he places his telephone down and heads to his seat.

"To think they would just give away all their goods like that and betray the Kingdom of Aelyndral which is one of the Quads of powers. Isn't Nyrelith supposed to be one of the top 20 nations."

{Goto Sato:  Regional Overseer of the Eldoria Astral Magus Association and the leader of the branch Scholar Sato Family. Society Rank: Sanctified noble}

"It just shows how much pathetic humans are in the face of power. Not even once has the Kingdom of Aelyndral defeated in the Iron Pact War so of course they'll shift to us."

{Duke Edmund Vhalor Wyrmswood: Duke of the State of Eldoria and lead Scholar. Society Rank: Sanctified noble (A)}

"King Lancelot will be pleased with this," Goto said.

"Indeed he'll be. In exchange, I'll use my power to promote you to the seat of a Grand Celestarch or even, a Zenith Sovereign," Edmund said with a sinister grin as Maeve was seated at her office going through the paperwork.
