Silent Storms

Unexpected Eavesdropping

Unexpected Eavesdropping

Jan 29, 2025

Minjun wandered through the mansion, familiarizing himself with the various rooms and jotting down notes in a small notebook he'd grabbed from his quarters. The mansion was vast, with countless halls and hidden corners, each space more impressive than the last.

As he made his way through the grand hallways, Minjun found himself pausing in front of Haruto's study door. The door was cracked slightly, and he couldn't help but overhear a heated conversation taking place inside.

Haruto's voice, usually calm and composed, now sounded frustrated and strained. "I don't care about your excuses," Haruto said through clenched teeth, his tone filled with barely contained anger. Minjun could hear the shake in his voice and the heavy breathing that accompanied it. "This needs to be resolved immediately. No more delays."

Minjun's curiosity got the better of him, and he leaned in closer, trying to catch more of the conversation. Haruto's voice continued, growing more intense with each passing moment. "Do you understand the implications? This is not something that can be ignored!"

Just as Minjun considered moving away, he heard Haruto slam the phone down with a force that made him flinch. The sudden silence that followed was deafening. Minjun knew he had to act normal, despite the tension he felt.

Taking a deep breath, he knocked gently on the study door before pushing it open. "Haruto, would you like a snack or some tea?" Minjun asked, trying to sound casual and unaffected by what he had just overheard.

Haruto looked up from his desk, his expression softening slightly at the sight of Minjun. The frustration in his eyes was still evident, but it seemed to lessen just a bit. "Tea would be nice, thank you, Minjun."

Minjun nodded, noting the calm yet tense atmosphere in the room. He quickly set about preparing the tea, hoping to provide a moment of respite for Haruto from whatever was causing him so much stress.

As he worked, Minjun couldn't stop thinking about the conversation he'd overheard. What had Haruto been so angry about? The intensity and urgency of the call lingered in Minjun's mind, leaving him with a sense of unease.

Returning with the tea, Minjun placed the tray on Haruto's desk, careful not to make too much noise. "Here you go," he said softly.

Haruto took a deep breath, offering Minjun a small, appreciative smile. "Thank you, Minjun. I appreciate it."

There was a silence between them, the room filled only with the soft sounds of Haruto sipping his tea. Haruto's gaze was intense, his eyes locked onto Minjun as if trying to read his thoughts. Minjun felt the weight of that gaze, his heart pounding in his chest.

Finally, Haruto broke the silence. "Have you familiarized yourself further with the mansion?" he asked, his voice calm but probing.

Minjun nodded, trying to compose himself. "Yes, Haruto. I've been exploring the rooms and taking notes. There's still a lot to see, but I'm getting more comfortable with the layout."

Haruto nodded in approval. "Good. Do you have any questions so far?"

Minjun hesitated, the only question lingering on his mind being the phone conversation he had overheard. But he dared not mention it. Instead, he shook his head. "No, Haruto, not at the moment."

Haruto's gaze remained steady, as if he knew there was more on Minjun's mind. "If you ever have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask. Communication is important."

Minjun nodded, feeling both relieved and apprehensive. The unspoken tension from the phone call still hung in the air, but he knew it was not his place to pry. Haruto's gaze was intense, never leaving Minjun's face. Minjun felt the weight of that gaze, his heart pounding in his chest. He found it difficult to hold eye contact, his gaze flitting nervously to the floor and back to Haruto's face.

Haruto chuckled slightly, the sound breaking the tension in the air. "I can tell by your body language that something is on your mind, Minjun," he said, his voice a mixture of amusement and curiosity.

Haruto's eyes scanned over Minjun's body, taking in the subtle signs of tension and unease. Minjun's shoulders were slightly hunched, his hands fidgeting with the hem of his shirt, and his eyes refused to meet Haruto's steady gaze.

Minjun felt his cheeks heat with embarrassment. He tried to relax his posture, but the memory of the phone conversation he had overheard still lingered in his mind. "I-I'm fine, Mr. Sato," he stammered, his voice lacking conviction. "Just a lot to take in, you know?"

Haruto lifted an eyebrow and set down his tea, his gaze never wavering. "Didn't I tell you not to call me Mr. Sato?" he said calmly, his voice low and deliberate.
