"May I sit with you? I'd like to continue discussing our plans, Madam Melchior."
It was a dark, starry night lit up by the bustling streets of Blue Campanella. Ravenna Melchior had decided to take a breather at an elegant bar. The bar was at a higher floor of a building, towering over most of the city. Brick walls extended through half the bar, big windows showed the outside from above, and wood flooring finalized the base for the bar.
Melchior propped her face on her right hand. "Oh, dear. Dr. Rowan. Pleasure meeting you at such an hour."
The drinks being served at the bar were either extremely expensive or rare to find across Campanella; in fact, some of the drinks served come from other nations. The music that played created a soothing experience. The customers of this bar were only ever seen wearing formal business wear.
"I'll get right to the point, exactly as you prefer. Do you believe those Eterna to be a problem to the plan?"
Melchior's deep red, crimson dress fit right into the bar; her legs remained crossed as she looked through the window. There was nothing but confidence radiating from her. Dr. Rowan, who sat across from Melchior, wore a black suit. Despite his strong appearance, he feared her but chose to hide it so as not to show weakness.
Melchior's glance did not change even a bit; her posture remained still. "The anchor weighed back. The balance has shifted toward our favor. A few pests clawing through their own mess isn't of concern."
"However, I'd like for you to meet them. I love to see both sides of the coin when it comes to this world, whether it's melancholy or stagnation."
A server approached the two and gave them the usual. Melchior's approach to alcohol remained in cocktails, usually those made with sparkling wine as the base. While Dr. Rowan selected a rougher drink containing vodka.
Dr. Rowan was shocked. "Meet those Eterna? What would be the purpose? Madam, with all due respect. I am sure they wouldn't interfere with our plans."
Melchior took a sip of her drink. "I'd like for you to greet our audience. Just as any other performer would greet them on a big stage. As you propose, they wouldn't interfere with any of our plans; therefore, your appearance wouldn't be a problem, correct?"
Dr. Rowan stared at Melchior's soulless eyes with fear; he knew there wasn't a way he could even come to deny her request. "I'll deliver them a letter and meet them as soon as possible. I shall keep you informed of anything I come across."
"Row... and? Row wand? Rowan? No damn clue who this person you're trying to find is. All this talk about you and your yellow blue, or whatever color it was, Campanella is driving me crazy. Are you sure you're okay?"
You weren't sure how to take the news. You tried to explain to Vitalia that you were supposed to meet someone named Rowan in Green Campanella, but she didn't even know about Green Campanella being a thing. Throughout the last day, you had chosen to ignore all worry, but it's now a new day, and nothing has changed.
You shrugged. "I don't know. I told you all I know."
Unaware as to why, you rarely feel concerned with your surroundings or people around you. You're indifferent to everyone; you can't understand their emotional responses or even show any yourself.
Vitalia sighed and grabbed you out of the couch. "Eh. You don't seem like you're lying. But look. We are as lost as you are, so get up already, and let us teach you some about our place."
Yesterday after the events at the church. Vitalia and Carlotta had a heart-to-heart regarding Vitalia's secret; you were able to overhear most of the conversation.
"I'm sorry, Carlotta. I kept all of this from you for so long."
"Vitalia! I, well! You know... I am weaker than you! I rely on you for a lot of things! On that day, they forced you to do that! I know my Vitalia would've chosen both of us if she could. I know you would..."
"I! Wanted to say that if you ever feel down. I am here for you! I promise!"
"And, I... um. I love you."
As you followed Vitalia and Carlotta ahead, you continued to think about that moment. Vitalia didn't say much, but you also weren't able to hear much in between or afterward. Did it really matter to you? Not really, but you were still curious.
A lot of Consonance was rubble and nature growing into buildings that were barely able to stay in place. The vast majority of the population resided near the center, while some chose to keep uninhabited cabins in the outskirts.
"That amulet you got. It's apparently one of those things that were given to us to defend ourselves. I have zero clue about the details; don't ask me. But some divinities, like the one you saw yesterday, created those with power in them; that's why you can do your cool lightning thing."
Carlotta walked backward to stare at you. "Yep! Yep! We've both also got one of those things!"
Vitalia stared at Carlotta. "Apparently those shapeshifting bastards are a result of these things existing; they're like the opposite of your amulet. Because these items are blessed by those divinities or whatever, the shapeshifters are random objects corrupted by some weird reaction to the blessed objects."
"Sometimes they look like a normal trash can. Other times they become weirdly merged trash cans! So keep your eyes peeled!"
