No one was going to save me. If I was going to get out of this it was going to be on me. Before Chain Reaction could swing, a cloud appeared in front of him. Chain reaction paused for a second trying to figure out how it was possible.
I saw it, my one chance to strike, if I didn’t take it I wasn’t sure if I would get the chance again, I pulled my arm back to swing.
“You’re wrong, no one else can decide how I choose to live my life, it’s my life, and it won’t be dictated by anyone else!”
I threw a punch, and at the same time he did, both of our fists made contact with each other's chests, sending both of us flying back, as an explosion erupted from the scene. I flew backwards slamming into a wall, as a cloud appeared behind me softening the blow.
Blood came out of my mouth as I started to cough.
“Damn that was all I had, I gave it everything…” I said as I started to lose consciousness.
Chain Reaction got up from the dust, hunched over, holding his stomach. “You Damn BRAT, I’LL KILL YOU, I’LL KILL YOU BOTH!!” the villain yelled.
He tried to make his way towards the both of us, till suddenly he fell to his knees.
“W-what, my body won’t let me go forwards, why?Don't tell me this worthless piece of shit managed to hurt me.”
I looked over to see Bryce Smiling, as he noticed the villain didn’t have the energy to keep fighting.
“You did it huh, you managed to use your Deviation, and land a hit on him, You really did it!” He said loudly before coughing.
He was right, I did it, I managed to land a hit that was able to down the villain, not only that I managed to use my Deviation. I still had so many questions like how exactly did it work, and I needed to know more about Bryce, why did he never tell me about his Deviation if he had one the whole time.
Chain Reaction started to laugh wildly.
“So you’re not some worthless punk after all, I may have underestimated you.”
The villain assessed his injuries before realizing taking one more hit may put him down for good.
“You kids are lucky I didn’t fight all out from the beginning, or else you would both be dead, take this as a warning. Go home, and stop playing hero because next time you encounter me, you better look the other way.”
He gathered himself, and managed to stumble away leaving both Bryce and I laying against the wall.
We both started to laugh, I think it was a mix of shock, and relief to just be alive.
“Hey Jaye, this was unlike you, why would you fight some dude like that, you don’t even stand up for yourself when someone messes with you at school.”
I thought about what he said, he’s right I was shocked too.
“I don’t know, I saw him robbing some lady, and I couldn’t let him, it reminded me of something that happened to me, and my mom before.” I paused
“I also thought of what I saw on the news today, about that hero, you know who I’m talking about?”
Bryce paused and thought for a second.
“You mean the Golden Patriot right?I saw it too this morning.” Bryce said, holding his arm.
“He’s one of the top 10 heroes in that new program, who hasn’t heard about him.”
Top 10?New Program? How have I never heard of these things before, I knew I wasn’t the most in the news person, but being this clueless was shocking.
“Yeah it’s called G.O.D, Global Order of Deviants., It was created to maintain order in this wake of violent Deviant crimes.” Bryce said as if it was common knowledge.
“Your dad literally works for the company,” he said, shaking his head.
“MY FATHER, how do you know that?” I said stammering
“Dude it’s literally on your car license plate, have you never thought about why your dad is always away at work?” Bryce said.
“Well… I just assumed he worked some boring office job, I mean the pay is good, so what was I supposed to think?” I said in confusion.
“So are we going to sit here all day or are we going to go home” I laughed
I got up dusting myself off, I reached out a hand to Bryce.
He grabbed my hand, getting up with a groan.
“We really got our ass beat didn’t we?”
“Yeah we did,” I said, still laughing before coughing.
“You can come over to my house, my parents aren’t home, and I’m sure it’ll be a second before they get home.”
Bryce smiled, dusted himself off.
“Hey Jaye, I don’t say this often, but you’re actually pretty cool, you always manage to keep going no matter how the world treats you.”
I looked back at him.
“You might just be my hero.” Bryce said.
He created a cloud, and got onto it, stretching out a hand to me.
“Get on, I learned to do this awhile back, I based it off that one book we read in class. I don’t remember the name? Journey to the East or something like that.”
I grabbed his hand pulling myself onto the cloud, noticing just how soft it was.
“It’s Journey to the West Idiot.”
We both laughed, before coughing again.
“So does this make us heroes?" I asked.
“Yeah, I guess it does,” Bryce responded.
