Scene Changes to Amorino Ice Cream shop.
“We’re here, this is my favorite Ice cream in the whole city!” I exclaimed.
This was going to be the best day I had in awhile. I got to hangout with my best friend Bryce, and the cute new girl from school.
“Uhm dude, you’ve never been here before have you” Bryce responded.
I noticed Iris was quiet, I never really did introduce them to each other, I kinda just thought they would spark up a conservation.
“Bryce, this is Iris, she’s new to our school, and just moved here from Iowa. And Iris this is Bryce he’s my best friend” I smiled
They shook hands while greeting each other.
We sat near the window. It was raining that day so clouds covered the sun, and blocked out most of the light.
“I love rainy days, they're the best! There’s no better time than the rain when you take care of plants” Iris suddenly said.
“Yeah for sure, I love listening to the sound of rain, and then seeing big thunder strikes. I mean Jaye’sun over here used to always get scared when there was thunder.” Bryce said jokingly.
I kicked Bryce's leg from under the table, before side-eyeing him.
Iris, and Bryce both went to speak before realizing the other was going to say something.
“You can go first Iris.”Bryce said notioning her to speak.
Iris was about to speak before suddenly we saw a crowd forming outside.
Being downtown, seeing something like this wasn’t unusual, but today for some reason the crowd seemed especially hostile.
It wasn’t until I looked closer that I figured out what was going on. It was a protest, but not just any protest, it was one against Deviants.
“Here we go again, I’ll never understand these people, acting like someone personally harmed them, I mean is it that hard to accept people's differences?”
scene changes to outside
“Remove those monsters from this city, no good comes from them!” a man shouted.
“They bring nothing but disaster everywhere they go!” another woman shouted.
“I don’t care, ship them out of here” was being chanted from the whole crowd.
A man grabs a mic, and walks to the front of the crowd, and stands on a homemade stage.
“Ladies and Gentlemen of Chicago I am Reverend James, are you tired of crimes?” The leader said booming.
“Yes!” the crowd responded.
“We made this city safe, we got guns off this street, and for what? For these animals to ruin a good city. We work hard to give our children a safe place just to have these mutants ruin everything.” The man sounded passionate as he stood before the crowd.
“Day, and night we have to worry about walking the streets, now innocent families are taken hostage and robbed of their good money, by good for nothing crooks.”
The group cleared, allowing a small circle to open in the front of the crowd.
Which showed the lady and mother that I saved from that villain a week before.
“This poor Young lady, and her child were robbed in broad daylight, by one of THEM, do you care to share your experience.” The reverend said, pulling the lady onto the stage.
“I was with my child walking the streets of my beautiful neighborhood, never in my 30 years have I experienced crime here.” She stopped talking for a second to take a deep breath.
“That’s when there was an explosion , and I turned around to see a scary man making his way towards me and my child. I was terrified and I pulled my baby as close to me as possible to protect him from any debris.” tears started forming in the woman's eyes.
“He asked for my purse and told me to hand over everything to him, I could barely make rent, we struggled enough just trying to get by in Chicago. When I refused he threatened me, and when I still wouldn’t hand over the money he was going to attack me." The women looked clearly shaken while recounting the events.
“But.. that’s when a nice young man saved me, even with no powers he stepped up, and gave me and my child just enough time to get away. I-I don’t know what happened after but everyday I pray for that young man's health, he was a true hero different then those monsters who threaten our peace.” The woman finished speaking and the Reverend wiped away her tears.
“DO YOU SEE MY PEOPLE, we can’t keep them here, they may still be people but they couldn’t be any more different than us.” The reverend’s voice boomed again.
“We should just ship them off somewhere together so that way they can leave all us NORMAL people alone, let them create whatever chaos they want but away from us.”
“Ladies and Gentlemen continue with me, as we once again chant in hope of our government hearing us out.”
“I don’t care, ship them out of here!” Began to be chanted from the crowd once again.
“Louder my people, spread the word!”
“I don’t care, ship them out of here!!” the crowd said louder.
Scene changes back to the inside of the Ice cream shop.
I looked over to see Bryce and Iris bothered by the scene occurring outside, noticing just how uncomfortable the two of them looked.
“This is what I mean, I don’t know why my mom and dad thought moving here was a good idea, people's views will never change.” Iris said quietly
I could tell Bryce probably felt the same way I mean, he might have kept it a secret, but who can blame him it wasn’t until now I realized just how harsh the world could be.
“Yo Jaye, I’m sure you’re upset, and I wouldn’t blame you. I mean we’ve been best friends our whole life and I didn’t trust you with this secret. It’s just hard you know, people like me… well like us now” He laughed “We aren’t really liked by the general populace as you can see, I just didn’t want to lose you as a friend you know?”
It was weird for me seeing Bryce be so serious about something. But I wanted him to know I cared, and that I was here for him.
I punched his arm, before laughing.
“Man, now you’re an idiot, do you think I care? Nah man you’re still Bryce, you’re still the same guy who looks out for me everyday right? Then I don’t care. Honestly, I understand how this knowledge could have caused more issues and it becoming known comes with a lot of major issues. You were just trying to do what’s best for yourself and those around you” I said with a smile.
I saw Iris look even more emotional before she started crying which caused everyone to look at us.
She noticed and stopped crying, wiping her tears.
“You guys are lame as hell, you know that, but in a good way. I wish I had friends like you in my hometown. I doubt Jaye’sun told you yet, but you may know that I’ve moved here recently, see I’m originally from Iowa.”
“Iowa, who the hell lives in Iowa” Bryce chuckled.
“Wow my fault city boy!” she rolled her eyes.
“As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted, an incident happened when people found out I had a Deviation. I was born with one, and it didn't take my parents long to figure out something was up when their farms started to flourish after I played outside.”
So she had a Deviation which explains what I saw before leaving the room, and that explains why she moved here.
Yet she still decided to tell me to someone who was a complete stranger, I don’t know why but it made me feel kinda good to be trusted by her.
“I don’t know exactly how it works, or my exact limitations. But I classified it as Tier 4 Deviation, and I’m calling it!” she paused, drumming her fingers against the table.
“Gaia’s Blessing!, pretty cool huh, I was inspired by a goddess from Greek mythology as that’s where my name originates from.”
When she said that it made me realize I never thought of a name for my Deviation, I mean what exactly would I name it, and how does the Tiering thing even work. I wouldn’t even know what to classify my Deviation as.
“Gaia’s Blessing huh? Almost as cool as mine, I call it Tempest. I have the ability to manipulate this cloud I can create” Bryce said smugly.
“A cloud? I mean that’s cool I guess, But I think mine is way cooler, I can accelerate the growth of plant life around me. Think about how much money I can make running a farm, opening a flower shop, or-” but before she could finish the news suddenly came on.
“Good Evening Chicago welcome back to ABC7 News and today we have an insight story with a new and upcoming Organization. They go by the Global Order of Deviants and look to leave a huge splash on the scene.” The news broadcaster exclaimed
“Now we’ll cut to the man himself, President Alex Harrison.”
The man was finely dressed Blonde hair, in a suit and tie, he had one of those smiles you would see on a youtube thumbnail or a billboard.
“My name is Alex Harrison, the founder of G.O.D. Here at G.O.D we look to push what was once Vigilante work to the forefront of American society. We’ve all dealt with a Deviant crime, we’ve all heard the tales of the bad bad people who make living in America harder than it already has to be. That’s when we step in, with G.O.D we take Deviants who want to leave a positive impact and protect the good people of this country using their GOD given powers. Why should we see them as monsters, when they can be so much more a form of protection. Let those who want to use their powers for good protect us. Here at G.O.D it is our personal goal to cut down on all Deviant crime around the country, we won’t rest until that is done.” The man smiled even harder, as if he was trying to impress someone.
“For all you Deviants who want to do the right thing, reach out and we can set you on the right path.”
The TV flickers before cutting back to the news.
“Well you heard it here ladies, and gentlemen, it looks like peace will finally be achieved in the city of Chicago, but only time can tell.” The broadcaster said before the news ended.
“Man that really pissed me off, I mean who goes around calling themselves G.O.D like does that not strike anyone as weird?” I said
“No you’re right on this one Jaye, I mean this whole thing gives off cult vibes” Bryce responded
“Seriously, anyone who thinks of themselves that way is fishy, and did you hear the way he was talking? Like we were animals that needed taming or something.” Iris added.
It was just then we finally got our Icecream as they brought it to our table.
“Here you go!” The server chimed.
“Thanks, I appreciate it,” I responded.
We were going to continue talking when suddenly we heard a scream from outside. I turned first looking to see people scattering from the protest.
“Go on and flea, run like the ants you are!!” The man yelled wildly.
“I’m a monster right? Then I’ll be a monster all right, a monster by the name Overdrive.”
The villain picked a man from the crowd, before pulling a knife out of his pocket.
“This is how you see me right?, Then fine let it be this way”
Everyone from the crowd by then has run away or hid leaving the guy to fend for himself with the villain.
“Y-you are a monster, you and all your kind… Why don’t you leave us alone!” The man said weakly.
The villain paused for a second, looking to appear taken aback by the man's comment.
“Oh really huh.” A smirk appeared on Overdrive's face.
The villain held the knife with a tight grip before charging at the man.
“I hope you’re ready to die for that opinion!!!” Overdrive screamed angrily.
