Before his foot could hit my stomach A cloud appeared, stopping the hit.

“Get up Jaye” Bryce said while dusting himself off before laughing.

“Do you think we can give up now? If we let this guy win it’s the same as saying he’s right, are you okay with that?”

“No… no way man, you know I’m not.” I responded

Bryce rushed at Overdrive throwing another punch, he ducked throwing a counter punch at Bryce but he created a cloud blocking the attack.

“He may be fast, but he’s not invincible.”

I felt the ground shake again slightly, and saw the concrete starting to crack more and more.

“Over, and over they make us fight against each other, that’s what they want for us to see each other as enemies, what don’t you understand. If you just join me we can destroy this corrupt society and build something new!” Overdrive shouted

He picked up his knife from the floor before brandishing it in his hand.

“If sacrifices need to be made then so be it, you kids will just be an example to the world, that my message is serious.”

Overdrive took the knife swinging at Bryce trying to cut his face, but before it could make contact vines bursted from the ground wrapping around the villain's body. Stopping his attack, and halting the knife right before it could slash him. 

Iris emerged from one of the nearby stores with a mask, and hood covering her face to hide her identity. 

“Sorry to keep y’all waiting, but a good surprise can never hurt.” 

Overdrive used the knife to slash at the vines, cutting them away before freeing himself.

“So what are you guys, some type of superhero group or something, you guys must work for G.O.D.” Overdrive said

“Them eww, no way, we just noticed someone trying to hurt people, and we couldn’t let that happen, but we’re ending this now.” Iris responded

“Are you sure you should be here? You could get hurt? It’s dangerous to be here you know, what if something happens?” Bryce said

“I don’t need saving and definitely not from you. I can handle myself. Let’s focus on this guy, and all that extra stuff later k?” Iris quickly interjected.

“So 3 of you huh? That’s fine, this is more than within what I can handle” Overdrive said before he swung at Iris, but Bryce caught his hand. I took the chance to throw a punch but he dodged it, backhanding me with his open hand.

Iris activated her power as some of the vines she created formed a gauntlet as she wrapped them around her fist, and continued down her arm. 

This’ll be the first time I’ve ever used my Deviation to harm someone else. But I don’t have time to worry about that, I need to help my friends. Iris thought to herself

Bryce created a cloud to mask Iris as she threw a punch that managed to make contact with the villain, causing him to stumble backwards.

“How did she… I should have been able to dodge it but for some reason I couldn’t move back.” He looked down seeing there were roots that looked as though they belonged to a tree wrapped around his foot.

“No matter how fast you can react, you're only human, you may have lived your life thinking you’ve seen it all, that nothing could catch you off guard. But you’re wrong, you gave up the world and because of that you never realized just how much potential you had.” Iris responded

The comment seemed to have frustrated him because before anyone could react he threw a punch at Iris, knocking her off her feet.

“SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP! Don't you dare try to lecture me, you kids don’t know anything!”

He picked Iris off the ground holding her up in the air.

“You should understand my pain!Have you not been outcast by this society, or have they brainwashed you into thinking like them?” Overdrive said

Seeing Iris in trouble I didn’t know what to do, was she going to get hurt because of me? I couldn’t let that happen, I wanted to be a hero, I wanted to do something with my life.

Overdrive frowned as he realized there was no convincing us to see things his way.

“What a shame..”

He tightened his grip as he went to slam Iris into the ground.

Move, move, move, I kept telling myself I had to, but how could I make it in time he was too far from me. Then I remembered the sense of heat in my body, and thought about my Deviation.

“I hope you know this wasn’t personal.” Overdrive said as he slammed Iris into the ground.

But before he could, I used all the stored up energy I had, and in one step I dove to catch Iris from hitting the ground.

“A-are you okay?” I said out of breath feeling a sense of pain in my legs, as the heat vanished from my body.

“What was that! You were over there, then here, and it all happened in a flash.” she said trying to keep her voice stable.

“It’s kinda hard to explain but can you get up now, the thorns around your arm are stabbing into my chest.”

She got up quickly as she looked slightly embarrassed before getting ready to fight again.

“I don’t know how we’re going to stop him now though, I used all the energy I had saved up, so how are we supposed to beat him now” I said to Bryce.

“We’ll just have to do this the old fashion way.” Bryce responded

Bryce went for a sweep kick causing the villain to step back, and I followed it up with a punch as he grabbed my arm. Iris threw another punch at Overdrive with him dodging, and throwing another counterpunch. Iris used the vines from her arm to create a small shield blocking the attack. 

“Damn, that hurt, those vines must have tiny thorns on it she was able to conceal, and hide from me.” Overdrive said while in pain.

“Yo B, if we drag this fight out any longer the police will get here, and we don’t wanna deal with that.” 

“Then let’s end this.” Bryce said

Me, and Bryce rushed the villain from opposite sides, before each throwing a punch at the same time, he dodged my punch grabbing my arm, throwing me into Bryce. 

Iris took the chance to throw a punch, but when Overdrive attempted to grab her arm she wrapped a layer of vines around her arm, which caused him to pause for a second.

Bryce got up swinging at Overdrive, landing a clean hit on his face.

“I’ve never had to use my Deviation for so long. It seems like the drawbacks are kicking in. I can’t keep up with the fight anymore, my movements are starting to get sluggish.” Overdrive said.

Me, and Bryce looked at each other, before making eye contact with Iris. We knew we needed to overwhelm him, or keep him in place. 

Bryce created a cloud behind Overdrive which caused him to turn, but no one came from that direction. I took the chance to swing, landing my first hit on his stomach causing him to stumble.

“I figured you out.” Bryce said with a smirk.

“In order to maximize the use of your Deviation in a fight you always keep it activated which means, you’re not dodging consciously. So beating you is simple. If I know you’ll always react, then it’s easy to land a hit.”

Roots bursted from the ground but Overdrive jumped in the air to avoid the attack.

“Entangle!” Iris said, suddenly catching everyone off guard, as the roots from the plants closed around Overdrive trapping him in place.

Bryce, and I took the chance we had, as we swung from both sides of the villain with both our fist making contact with the villain's face at the same time.

Overdrive coughed up blood, as his body became numb, and he fell unconscious. The vines around his body slowly unwrapped from him, causing the villain to fall flat onto the ground.

“We… we did it…” I said panting out of breath.

“Yeah we did, it took all 3 of us, but we were able to beat him!” Bryce added.
“All thanks to me!” Iris continued.

We heard police sirens approaching in the distance, causing us to panic.

“Dude what are we supposed to do, I’m not ready to go to jail yet, I’m way too young!” I said in a panic.

“Yeah, and I’m too pretty!” Iris said.

Bryce quickly created a cloud pulling me, and Iris up.

“I usually can’t hold this much weight with my cloud, but if we’re only going a short distance I should be able to for a little bit, let’s just focus on getting out of here,I’ll take us somewhere nearby, and then we can walk from there.” 

We got a few blocks away when Bryce started to land the cloud, but before we could completely land on the ground the cloud disappeared, and we fell to the ground.

“Owww, could you not have been more gentle!” Iris shouted.

“Well, an interesting way of saying thank you but I’ll take,” Bryce remarked.

*2 Days Pass*

I was laying in my bed when suddenly I heard a rock hit my window.

“Who is it…” I said, rubbing my eyes, and getting out of bed.

“It’s Iris, and Bryce! We came to check up on you, we haven’t seen you since what happened on Friday.” Iris shouted from outside my window.

I went downstairs to open the door letting them in. 

“What’s going on man, this isn’t like you, you haven’t talked to me in like 2 days did I do something wrong?” Bryce said.

“No it’s not you, it’s just my mom has been missing since Friday, and the police have no lead. They said she might just be off on some type of work trip, and might just be busy. But that isn’t like her at all!No way my mom would leave for 3 days, my dad sure, but my mom no way!”

“Omg we’re so sorry, we didn’t know you were going through something, we wouldn’t have come by if we knew.” Iris said, placing a hand on my shoulder.

“It’s fine, I’m just trying to process it all, I’m just mad my dad doesn’t care, he heard the news, and acted like it wasn’t a big deal saying “She’ll turn up eventually” like how he is not scared. He didn’t even bother coming back from work.” I said tearing up.
“That’s seriously insane, no job is that important, it just seems selfish I can’t understand it.” Bryce responded

“If you need anything we’re here for you.” Iris added with a smile.

“Thanks guys, I’m just going to take a few days to myself, but while we’re all here I have something I need to say.”
“Yeah go ahead Jaye, what’s on your mind.” Bryce said.

“Friday's incident made me realize just how much is going on in the world, I don’t wanna turn a blind-eye to this. I want to be a hero, a real hero.” I said boldly.

“What do you mean a real hero?” Iris said.

“A real one, not someone who does it for petty things like fame, respect, or recognition, I wanna make a change, I want to better the world around us and make a place where Deviants can exist side by side with everyone else. I know I’m new to this unlike you two, but I’m serious when I say this, I can’t do it alone though. So what do you guys say?” I stood there as I felt my heart beat through my chest.

“That sounds, lame ass fuck, count me in! Anything you’re passionate about I’m here for!Let's make the world a better place!” Bryce said.

“I like the idea, count me in, as long as we’re not working with that shady organization I’m down!” Iris said.

“So then we’re a team.” We all said in unison.

“Well if we’re a team, we’ll need a name right?” Bryce stated.

“Oh I have an Idea what about ..…”
