Chapter 3: Socializng, Victoria, New Home

Chapter 3: Socializng, Victoria, New Home

Feb 06, 2025

Socializing. The core objective of us humans. As a social creature, we need others of our kind. When it comes to me, though, it is very hard to do so. As a baby isolated in my aunt's small apartment, never meeting any other kids my age before kindergarten, you could imagine how I felt when entering my class in kindergarten for the first time. Although I was half fluent in speaking, I was worried about what they would think of me. As a disabled girl.

It was when the principal opened my class door that I found such a loving and caring community. I entered the class and was placed in the front row. My helping teacher, or shadow teacher, sat next to me. My principal then excused herself with a small curtsy gesture and left our class.

"Good morning, class," my classroom teacher said.

"Good morning, Miss Andrewson," the students shouted with excitement.

While that was happening, I felt glares from each student. Glares of, surprisingly, excitement.

"Today we have a new student joining our class. How about you stand up and introduce yourself?" Miss Andrewson said.

Before realizing what she just said, everyone laughed. Even my shadow teacher laughed along with them. I was angry, embarrassed, and sad at the same time. I then curled up like a little ball and faced the table.

"Settle down, kids. Don't laugh like that. We must appreciate each other's differences. I'm sorry, Rhou. I forgot. Why don't you come here and introduce yourself?" Miss Andrewson said.

I then lifted my head and got wheeled to the front of my class.

"H-hello, everyone. M-my name is Rhoa Be-Belle Ro-Rodriguez. Nice t-to meet you," I said with a nervous voice.

"What do we call you?" one of my friends asked.

"You ca-can ca-call me R-Rhoa," I replied.

"Hi, Rhoa!" the class shouted.

"Rhoa, why don't you tell a little about yourself?" Miss Andrewson said.

"A-alright. M-my a-age is fi-five years old. I like watching YouTube a-and I like the color purple," I said.

"Give a round of applause for Rhoa," Miss Andrewson said.

Everyone clapped. At that moment, I felt a sudden feeling of joy. Being applauded—it was the happiest thing. I felt like I got appreciated for who I am. It was clear to me what I wanted to do with my life that day. I wanted to speak in front of many people and get applauded.

Finally, I returned to my seat. When I looked to my left, I saw an eager girl looking at me.

"Hello," I said.

"Oh my god. Hello. You were so cool," she said.

"T-thanks?" I replied.

"Oh, wait. My name is Victoria. Nice to meet you, Rhoa!" she said.

"Nice to meet you too, Victoria," I said.

"Can we be friends?" Victoria said.

"Yeah, sure," I replied.

"Eeek!" smiled Victoria.

Little did I know that this person would be one of the most confusing relationships in my life. I then proceeded with my studies, with Victoria following me everywhere. I had only met her for a day, but it felt like she knew me for years. We then proceeded to do our nap time—Victoria sleeping next to me, of course. Then we had snacks. Finally, it was time to go home. I rushed myself out of the school, waving goodbye to my shadow teacher, Miss Andrewson, and Victoria, and meeting my aunt again.

We went inside a big car. Little old me didn't know that car was a Phantom Rolls-Royce. We went inside, me and my aunt, and there was a tall and tough man in a suit.

"How was school today, Rhoa?" my aunt asked.

"Good. I was so brave at talking in front of the class. They then clapped for me. It was so cool," I said.

"Well, will you look at that? Well done," my aunt replied.

Then suddenly, the mysterious man in the suit said, "Ehem."

"Oh, right. I forgot. Rhoa, meet your new uncle. Future uncle, at least. Just call him..."

"Oppa," the man in the black suit said, cutting off my aunt.

"Yeah... sure. Call him Oppa," my aunt replied, a bit shocked.

The man in the black suit was the man my aunt was engaged to. He is a Korean American executive director in a famous Korean company. He's also the heir of that company—a business engagement, if you will.

"All right. I also made a friend today," I said.

"How many friends did you make, Rhoa?" my aunt asked.

"Only one. Her name's Victoria," I replied.

"Well done!" my aunt said.

"You really love her, don't you?" Oppa asked.

"I do. Don't you dare lay a finger on her," my aunt said.

"All right. Nice to meet you, Rhoa," Oppa said.

After a drive that felt like an eternity, we arrived. Somewhere. But it wasn't the apartment I grew up in.

"Aunty, where are we?" I asked.

"This is our new home," my aunt said.

"H-how about my things?" I asked reluctantly.

"It's all inside, Rhoa," my aunt replied.

My aunt opened the door. Their maids lined up, welcoming us. My wheelchair was prepared in front of me, and I hopped inside. I was wheeled to the front of my house by a maid, my aunt next to me. While Oppa was left behind, when we went inside, I was surprised.

The house was so big. It was nothing like the small apartment we used to live in. I was also sad because I wasn't informed before leaving our old apartment. At least talk to me. I know I was a child, but my opinion matters too.

I got inside and was wheeled to my new room. It looked amazing. A pink room. A room of every girl's dream.

"What do you think, Rhoa-Rhoa? Do you like your new room?" my aunt asked.

I was silent for a while, slowly assessing my new room before I said, "I love it."

"Great!" my aunt shouted in excitement.

"If you're happy, I'm happy," my aunt explained.

"Will you be sleeping with me like usual?" I asked.

"Ye—" Before she could reply, Oppa came into our room.

"No. Your aunt will be sleeping with me," Oppa said.

My aunt stood up. "Let's talk about that outside. And later. Leave now," my aunt said with a loud tone.

"All right, all right," Oppa said.

"It's all gonna be alright, Rhoa-Rhoa. Everything will be alright," she said as she slowly held me tightly.

It turns out after this, something won't be alright. Something sinister. Abuse.

To be continued....
