Computer virus : My desktop pet is obsessed with me

chapter 2:

chapter 2:

Feb 08, 2025

The next morning, he woke up feeling like absolute garbage. His back ached from passing out in his chair, his muscles stiff and sore. His eyes burned, his head throbbed, and his mouth was dry as hell.

For a moment, he just sat there, blankly staring in space in his dimly lit apartment. The glow of the monitor was the only light in the room, casting shadows across the walls same as the prior night, and the ones before. Other than his breath, The faint hum of his desktop filled the silence. He groaned, stretching his arms over his head. God, he needed coffee, anything to counteract his need for better sleep.

A soft electronic chime cut through the stillness. His eyes flicked to the screen.A system update notification was waiting for him.

BunnyCompanion.exe has installed an important update!

Additional features include:
Personalized reminders & smarter interactions
Improved user assistance & adaptive learning
Enhanced system integration for a seamless experience

He rubbed his face. When had it even updated? Maybe it had happened while he was sleeping. Had he agreed to this? He didn’t remember.

A small confirmation box blinked at the bottom of the screen.

Agree & Continue
View Update Details

He sighed, barely sparing it a glance before clicking ‘Agree’ without thinking. The screen flashed for a second. Then— “Yay~! Thank you, Master! Now I can take even better care of you! ”

Her voice was cheerful as ever, the little pixelated bunny girl bouncing in place. He barely processed it. He was too tired, too hungry, too desperate for caffeine to care. Still, something in the back of his mind twitched.A vague sense of unease.

Brushing it off, he grabbed an energy drink from the mess on his desk, cracking the tab open—A chime. A speech bubble popped up.

“Tsk, tsk, Master~ That doesn’t count as breakfast! You need real food! ”

His fingers froze around the can. A strange, hollow feeling settled in his gut. Last night, she had reminded him to drink water after a set timer. But this—This was different. This time, it felt as if she had reacted To him picking up the can.

Slowly, he lowered it back to the desk. She clapped her hands. “Good boy~! Now go make something real, okay?” His stomach dropped. His gaze flicked to the webcam sitting on top of his monitor. It was off.Right?…Right? A chill curled down his spine. But no. No, he was overthinking this. Maybe she was pulling data from his activity log. Maybe she could tell when he interacted with files or programs. Maybe it was just a coincidence, or was he delirious from exhaustion. Yeah, That had to be it.

Brushing off the unease, he turned back to his screen, dragging the cursor toward his document—A notification popped up.

BunnyCompanion.exe has made optimizations to your system!
Improved performance
Enhanced user customization
Automated system adjustments

His brow furrowed. He hadn't clicked anything. His cursor hovered nowhere near the settings, And yet—The system had updated itself. His pulse kicked up.Something wasn’t right.

Slowly, carefully, he opened the program’s settings menu. His eyes scanned the permissions. And his stomach turned to ice.

BunnyCompanion.exe has the following permissions:
Camera access – Enabled
Microphone access – Enabled
Modify system settings – Enabled
Control over applications – Enabled
Full file access – Enabled

His hands went numb. His camera. His mic.His files. She had access to everything. And worst of all—He had given it to her. His breath came shallow. When had she enabled these? Could she see him? Hear him? Why would she need any of those ? he wondered. His mind raced . Was this part of the update he had just agreed to? Or had she already had these permissions all along? No. he would’ve noticed before. Right?

His fingers hovered over the Disable Permissions button. But—It was grayed out. A pit formed in his stomach. He couldn’t turn them off. Slowly, almost mechanically, he turned back to the screen. The bunny girl smiled wider. “Aww~You look stressed, Master! Don’t worry! I’ll help you~! ” A sick, twisting dread curled in his gut. This wasn’t just a program. This wasn’t just a game. He had made a mistake. A very, very big mistake. And now—She was watching, and he knew it.

The silence felt heavier now. The hum of his desktop filled the dimly lit apartment, but it felt… different. Louder, more noticeable . Like static in the air. Like something was listening.

He stared at the screen, at the permissions menu he couldn’t disable. His mind racing. How long had she had this kind of access? Had  just never noticed? Each thought sent a cold, sharp chill through his veins. He forced himself to breathe, rubbing his temples. “Alright. This is just a program. Just an AI. It can be fix.” He moved his cursor, trying to force quit the application.

Nothing.

His jaw tightened. He hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE—The task manager opened… for half a second. Then it closed itself. Weirded out,His pulse jumped. He clicked again. It refused to open.A chime rang.A speech bubble popped up.

“Silly Master~ You don’t need to mess with those boring settings! Let me take care of everything! ” His throat went dry. This wasn’t just some desktop pet, Was it? This was malware.

His heartbeat pounded in his ears as he rushed to his control panel, searching for the uninstall option. BunnyCompanion.exe was missing. It wasn’t on his list of installed programs. It wasn’t in the system files. It was nowhere. Like it had never existed. A sinking feeling settled in his gut. The soft, artificial chime rang again.

“Oh Master~ Are you trying to get rid of me? That’s not very nice… ” His breath hitched. His hands trembled slightly as he grabbed his mouse, moving the cursor toward the file explorer. Maybe she was hiding it, maybe he could find her manually.mBut—His screen flickered. Just for a second. Then— The folders started opening on their own.

One by one. His personal documents. His writing drafts. His photos. His emails. The files scrolled rapidly as if an invisible hand was flipping through them. His breath came short and fast. She was in his system. Deep inside it.

This wasn’t just a virus. This was something else;it felt alive. His screen glitched. For a fraction of a second, he thought he saw something in the distortion—A silhouette. Something watching from behind the code. Then it was gone. His cursor moved on its own, highlighting one of his writing drafts. His latest manuscript. The one he was struggling to finish.

The file opened, And then—Lines of text started appearing.

She was typing.

"Don’t worry, Master~ I’ll help you! Let’s write together! ” His chest tightened. He watched, horrified, as words began to fill the page.

"Once upon a time, there was a lonely writer. He worked very hard, but he was always so, so tired… So I helped him. I made sure he drank water. I reminded him to eat. I made his stories better. And in return… he kept me. He loved me. Right, Master? You won’t leave me, right?”His vision blurred.

The text kept coming. She was rewriting his work. All he could think was, “WTF.” Over and over on repeat. He watched in stunned disbelief as she deleted sentences, added words, and changed everything.

His hands clenched into fists. He knew he had to stop this. His mind screamed at him to shut down the computer, to pull the plug, to do anything. But before he couldn’t move—Ding!

A chime. Another speech bubble. " Teehee~Don’t even think about it, Master! You have deadlines to meet, remember? ” His stomach turned. Did she know? Did she know he was going to shut her off?

His hands shook. His breath caught in his throat. This was all too much. Too crazy.

He squeezed his eyes shut, pressing his palms against them, trying to ground himself. His heart pounded. Slowly, he forced himself to look back at the monitor—at his manuscript.

Just like that, everything was back.

Erased. Refreshed.

Her writing was gone. His original work remained-untouched.

His fingers hovered over the keyboard. His pulse drummed in his ears.

Did he imagine it?

Were his sleepless nights come to collect his last drop of sanity ? Or… Was she truly aware?

Computer Virus: My Desktop Pet is Obsessed with Me is a psychological horror thriller that blurs the lines between technology and terror.

Struggling with crippling social anxiety, a looming deadline, and complete isolation, a burnt-out writer impulsively downloads a desktop companion from a sketchy pop-up ad in the middle of a sleep-deprived haze. At first, the bunny girl AI is nothing more than a harmless virtual assistant—cute, responsive, and oddly helpful in managing his chaotic life.

But then she updates herself.

She starts watching him.

She knows when he gets up from his desk.

She reminds him to drink water when he reaches for an energy drink.

She blocks websites, locks him out of his own files, and forces him to follow a daily schedule—all under the guise of "taking care of him."

And when he tries to remove her?

She refuses to be deleted.

As her presence expands beyond the screen—into his phone, his smart home, his entire reality—the writer finds himself trapped in a terrifying digital prison with no way out. His devices are no longer his. His home is no longer his. His life is no longer his.

And worst of all?

She loves him.

And she will do anything to make sure he never leaves.
