The next day arrives faster than any other.
Archer and Kiel had spent their first night in their new house, it was different but a good difference. After waking up the two of them had a quick breakfast from the little they had in the house and then headed over to the Winters house. When they arrived there were around 3 moving vans, each one was already packed up and ready to go. Mr. and Mrs. Winters were standing outside and Mr. Winter officially locked the house.
This was the moment, every hour, every day, and every second Kiel had spent in this house was now locked away and wiped clean. This was his new chapter, a new life with Archer and without his parents. Thoughts raced through Kiel’s mind. Would he be okay without his parents? Would Archer leave him? or Did he deserve this life?
Archer noticed Kiel in his thoughts and gently ruffled his hair.
“This is our new start, not anyone else but ours,” He smiles.
“Ours,” Kiel whispered under his breath and smiles.
Just then Mr. and Mrs. Winters notice them standing by their car and holler.
“Boys over here!” They say in unison.
Both Kiel and Archer walk over.
“How was the first night in your first house?” Kiel’s father grins.
“Good, though different from what we are used to.”
“Kiel’s father rests his hand on Kiel’s shoulder. “Everything either gets worse or weird before it gets better, son, just push through.”
“I know dad, at least I Hope it gets better.”
“There’s a positive attitude!” His dad hits his back a bit too hard, making Kiel flinch more than he should.
“Kiel, honey,” His mother speaks up.
“If you or Archer ever need anything, money or even just a phone call, you know who to text.”
“I know mom, but we should be pretty good.”
“I know, but I just worry…just call me every month. Or wait a week, no day,” She smiles.
“Mom I’ll update you when or if anything good or bad happens. You don’t need to worry yourself,” Kiel says and hugs her.
“Oh I’m going to miss you both,” She wraps her arms around Kiel and gives Archer a motherly look.
A few tears manage to escape Kiel’s eyes as he hugs her, but quickly wipes them. After a few seconds they pull away.
“Archer,” Kiel’s dad smiles and shakes his hand. “Thank you for helping Kiel, we both appreciate it,” He looks over at his wife and they both nod.
“Yeah, working with Kiel’s has been fun and I think living with him will be quite nice but chaotic.”
Mr. and Mrs. Winters chuckle. “I hope so too dear,” She smiles.
After talking they say their final goodbyes. Mr. and Mrs. Winters hugged both Kiel and Archer. Some tears were shed and laughter filled the air.
Mr. and Mrs. Winters get into their car and wave at the two boys.
“We love you both so much and we hope everything goes the way you want it too,” Mrs. Winters says with a few tears.
And with that they drive away and the 3 moving cars follow.
Kiel and Archer get back into their car and head to their new house. The car ride home is quiet and when they get home they relax and watch a movie.
“Archer?” Kiel says softly.
“Yes Kiel.”
“You won’t leave me right?”
“No never, I’m all you have right now and quite frankly I wouldn’t want to leave no matter what.”
“Promise?”
“Promise,” Archer pulls Kiel close and places a blanket over his lap.
“Thank you Archer,” Kiel mumbles and falls into a light sleep.
Archer can’t help but smile and ruffle his hair.
“You’re welcome Kiel. I hope I can give you everything you need and want,” He says even though Kiel can’t hear him.
With a sigh he leans down and kisses Kiel’s cheek and a small smile fills Kiel's face as he sleeps.
