Rise of The Forgotten: From Despised Weakling to the God of All Magic

Part 2: The Path of Vengeance: Kieran's Journey with Elara

Part 2: The Path of Vengeance: Kieran's Journey with Elara

Feb 07, 2025

Kieran stood silently as Elara disappeared into the trees, her footsteps barely audible against the dense forest floor. He had no attachment to her, no connection beyond the brief encounter, but something about the way she had looked at him—grateful yet uncertain—stirred something within him.

He had no reason to care about her, yet he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more to this encounter. Perhaps it was the fact that her helplessness mirrored his own. Once, he had been weak, discarded, and left to die. Now, she was in a similar position, vulnerable to the mercy of others. Her fate had almost been sealed, just as his had.

But Kieran had changed. He was no longer that fragile soul. He had power now, and it was that power that had saved her. And perhaps, just perhaps, that was why he hadn’t walked away. There was something in her eyes that he couldn’t ignore—a silent plea, one that reminded him of his own struggle.

As he made his way toward the nearby city, Kieran’s thoughts lingered on Elara. He didn’t need her gratitude, didn’t need her attachment, but her presence weighed on him nonetheless. She had tried to help him, offered him something he hadn’t asked for, and for some reason, that unsettled him.

After some time, Elara reappeared, stepping out from the cover of the trees, seemingly drawn to him, a silent pull between them. She had hesitated before, but now she was here, her eyes searching him as if trying to understand him—something that most people didn’t dare to do.

"You saved me," she said softly, her voice tinged with a mixture of awe and uncertainty. "I… I don’t even know your name."

Kieran glanced over his shoulder, his expression unreadable. He hadn’t expected this—hadn’t expected her to follow him. Her gratitude was foreign, unnecessary. The world didn’t need to know his name, and he didn’t need to know theirs.

"Kieran," he replied, his voice flat, devoid of emotion.

"Thank you, Kieran," she said, bowing her head slightly in gratitude.

He didn’t respond. The encounter had served its purpose. His journey was far from over, and Elara, though grateful, wasn’t part of his plan. Not yet. But as he glanced at her, there was a faint shift inside him—a growing recognition that their paths had crossed for a reason.

Elara, sensing his distance, spoke again, this time more cautiously. "You’re heading to the city, right? I don’t know if you have anywhere else to go, but… I can help you find a place to stay. I owe you my life."

Kieran considered her offer. His mind was focused on the bigger picture—his power, his revenge, the reckoning he had yet to bring upon those who had wronged him. But there was practicality in her words, and for some inexplicable reason, he nodded. She had offered help without hesitation, and perhaps that was enough to make him stay.

"Fine," he said simply. "Lead the way."

---

The two traveled in silence, the journey long but uneventful. Elara, who had grown more comfortable around Kieran, tried to fill the silence with small talk, asking about his past, where he had come from, and where he was going. But Kieran remained tight-lipped, keeping his thoughts to himself. Every question she asked felt like an attempt to pull him away from the mission that consumed him. But he didn’t let it.

As they neared the city, the towering gates came into view, standing tall and proud against the horizon. The city was a thriving hub, filled with commerce, life, and endless possibilities. Yet, Kieran couldn’t bring himself to care. His mind wasn’t on the trade or the bustling streets—he was focused on something far more personal. Power. Revenge. His future.

They entered the city together, Elara leading the way through narrow alleys and crowded marketplaces. The sound of the city was overwhelming—merchants haggling, children playing, the distant hum of music spilling out of inns. But despite the vibrancy around him, Kieran felt like a stranger in his own skin, out of place. His thoughts remained fixed on the road ahead.

After a brief walk through the busy streets, they arrived at a modest inn at the edge of town. Elara opened the door, her expression hesitant, as though unsure if Kieran would even follow her inside.

"You can rest here for now," she said, a little awkwardly. "It’s not much, but it’s safe. I’ll make sure you have everything you need."

Kieran nodded without a word, stepping inside. The inn was simple—wooden furniture, a hearth flickering with flames at the far end of the room. Elara quickly prepared a meal, setting it on the table before stepping back, giving him space.

"Thank you," Kieran said, his voice low, almost inaudible.

Elara smiled faintly, but it was clear there was more she wanted to say. Still, she didn’t push. She had already learned that Kieran was a man of few words, and perhaps, she didn’t need to ask.

As the evening wore on, Kieran’s thoughts wandered again, his mind consumed by the fire of vengeance that grew brighter within him. With each passing hour, his power expanded, his thirst for retribution growing stronger. And though he couldn’t explain it, the presence of Elara beside him felt… different. He hadn’t planned for her to become involved in his journey, but now it seemed like fate had something else in store.

The path ahead was long, and Kieran knew it would be fraught with obstacles. But he was no longer the man who had once been discarded and abandoned. He was someone to be feared. And soon, the world would learn his name. But only when he was ready.

For now, Kieran Valdros would take this small reprieve—this moment of peace—and prepare for what was to come. But even in this moment of quiet, one thing was certain: his destiny had only just begun.

---

Kieran's journey had taken its first unexpected turn. His power was growing, and with it, so was his sense of purpose. The world might not know his name yet, but soon it would. And when that time came, it would remember the man who had risen from nothing and claimed his place as the master of his own fate.

As the night fell, the warm glow of the fire flickered in the dark, casting long shadows against the surrounding trees. Elara sat quietly by the flames, eating a simple meal. Her eyes occasionally glanced at Kieran, who was seated a few paces away, lost in thought. The firelight danced across his face, but his expression remained cold and distant, as though the warmth couldn’t touch him.

Elara, though grateful for his protection, couldn’t help but wonder about the man she had found herself traveling with. There was so much she didn’t know about him. His silence was deafening, but she had learned not to push. Instead, she watched the fire, her mind racing with questions about her own future. Was this journey the start of something new for her, or was it just a fleeting moment of safety?

Kieran, however, had no such thoughts. He wasn’t here for the small talk, or for the comfort of another person’s presence. He had come to this world for one reason—to claim power, to rise above those who had wronged him. Elara’s presence was a mere convenience for now. But that didn’t mean it didn’t stir something within him. It wasn’t a connection, not yet. But the feeling of being wanted, even for a short time, was foreign to him.

As the night deepened, the fire crackled and popped, the sound of the forest settling into an eerie quiet. Elara eventually drifted into sleep, curling up on the ground beneath her cloak, exhausted from the long day. Kieran, however, remained awake. He couldn’t sleep—not yet. His mind was too consumed with his plans, with his growing power, and with the revenge that had only just begun to burn inside him.

He stared into the fire, lost in the crackling embers, until the sky began to shift toward dawn. The first light of the sun began to filter through the trees, casting a soft glow over the forest. It was time to move on. Kieran rose to his feet, his movements precise and calculated, and turned to Elara.

“Elara,” he said, his voice quiet yet firm, “We leave at dawn.”

She stirred slightly at the sound of his voice but didn’t wake immediately. Kieran didn’t wait for her to respond. He began packing up their meager supplies, methodical in his actions, not rushing but not wasting any time either. His thoughts, however, were far from the task at hand. He was ready to continue on his journey. The city lay ahead, and soon his real plans would begin.

Just as he adjusted the strap on his pack, a strange sensation ran through him. It was subtle at first, almost like an itch beneath his skin, but it quickly grew stronger. He didn’t understand it at first, but as he reached for his pocket, his fingers brushed against a strange interface. A translucent window flickered into view.

Kieran frowned, his mind racing. The window expanded, showing his status system. His level, magic abilities, items, and even his biography were laid bare before him, all in stark detail.

Cast aside and sent into the cursed Ruins, he discovered his latent magical powers—Light and Dark Magic, a lost art of immense power. Having defeated the monsters in the Ruins, Kieran ascended beyond mortal limits and sought vengeance upon those who wronged him. Now, with growing strength, Kieran seeks to reshape the world in his image.

Kieran’s eyes widened as the system’s details unfurled before him. The glowing interface lingered in the air, revealing everything he had been unaware of, everything that had been hidden from his conscious mind until now. He couldn’t believe it. His power, his potential—it was all there, so raw, so untapped. It felt like a confirmation of what he had already known: he was destined for something far greater than what he had imagined.

He quickly tried to close the system, but his fingers trembled for a moment, hovering over the options. With a swift motion, the screen disappeared, and everything returned to normal. Elara was still asleep, oblivious to what had just occurred.

Kieran stood frozen for a moment, the reality of his abilities settling in. His past life, the one filled with weakness and disdain, seemed so far away now. He was not that person anymore. He was stronger, more dangerous. And soon, the world would know his name.

With a deep breath, he glanced down at Elara, who had begun to stir. He hadn’t meant for his status to be revealed—not yet, not like this. But as the sun rose higher, he knew one thing for sure: the journey ahead was about to take a much darker turn.

“Elara,” Kieran said again, his voice a little softer this time, “We leave now.”

She nodded groggily, rubbing her eyes, and stood to gather her things. Kieran led the way, the world around them already shifting with the promise of change. As they left the camp, Kieran’s mind was already on the future, on his next step. The world would soon be forced to recognize him, whether it was ready or not.

And this time, no one would stop him.

As the two set off on their journey, Kieran's thoughts were focused on the path ahead. The world was vast, full of possibilities, but he was only interested in one thing: power.
