The city of Liberty Ridge lay silent under a canvas of thick, snow-laden clouds. The usual hum of urban life was briefly interrupted by the biting chill of the approaching snowstorm, carried by a strong mountain wind that cut through the narrow alleys.

In a dimly lit alley tucked away from the city's bustling streets, the crisp aroma of impending snow lingered. Here, shadows clung to the walls like specters, waiting to unveil the night's secrets.

As the first snowflakes gently descended, a sudden disturbance shattered the tranquility. The sound of flesh meeting metal echoed, followed by the dull thud of a young alligator being hurled against the rusting garbage cans.

It was a 16-year-old schoolboy who, without asking or looking for it, now found himself in the worst possible place. His damp clothes clung to him as he struggled to rise from the unforgiving ground, his tearful eyes reflecting both pain and terror. Next, a trio of imposing figures emerged from the darkness, the architects of his abrupt flight. At the forefront stood a massive sun bear with a serene countenance that sharply contrasted his intimidating size. Beside him, a lion of average stature exuded an unsettling air of mischief with a malicious smile, and at the center of this trio loomed a corpulent iguana with an expression that dripped with contempt. A malicious smile widened in the face of the latter as the young alligator, trembling, realized the situation he had gotten into. The alley had became a stage for a despicable and violent performance...

The setting shifts abruptly from the dark alley to a residential area of Liberty Ridge, almost in synchrony with the unfolding events. The focus then narrows to a pair of walking feet, accompanied by the rhythmic crunch of leaves on the pavement. As the view ascends, a hooded figure comes into sight, concealing most of their features both in shadow and behind the crimson fabric of their hood. With each exhalation, the creature's breath materializes into mist, adding an ethereal quality to the scene. As the night weather cools, a subtle transformation befalls the surroundings: the leaves underfoot, once crisp and dry, now release their earthy aroma, mingling with the sweet scent of blooming flowers that line the quiet residential streets. The dim glow of street lamps casts elongated shadows, playing hide-and-seek with the branches of old trees that line the sidewalks. Porch lights twinkle like distant stars, guiding the way to charming homes adorned with flower boxes and welcoming front doors. The hushed ambiance of the neighborhood adds to the allure, as if it holds a secret whispered only to those who wander its quiet streets. The beauty and magic of the scenery are only enhanced by unusual glows that suddenly begin to cascade from above.

The mysterious being watches the glowing lights fall around them, each luminescent spark defying the natural order. As the lights intensify, the hooded figure notices their celestial origin, prompting a gaze at the sky. Their reptilian eyes narrow with a sense of surprise and a hint of nostalgia. The glow emanates from a light in the sky, a mesmerizing beacon in the cold and windy night.

Unexpectedly, as the hooded character's eyes lock onto the luminous source, something stirs deep within them. The descending light does not feel foreign; it feels familiar, like a memory they cannot fully grasp...

It falls swiftly, like a shooting star, yet there is purpose in its descent, as if it were calling them… from a past they can't remember… or perhaps from a future waiting for them. For a brief second, a quiet nostalgia washes over them, bittersweet and heavy, as if they were being reminded of something precious that was once lost.

The light vanishes beyond the buildings, and almost immediately a desperate scream tears through the night. The lingering warmth of the light fades, replaced by a cold, sharp sense of duty. Their expression hardens — the call has reached them, and they won't ignore it.

Back in the alley, the young alligator lay on the cold ground, covered in bruises and blood. His injuries seemed serious, and the iguana, holding him by the uniform tie, reveled in the moment. Spilling inaudible bully words with a smirk, he prepared to deliver the final blow. At this, the alligator turned his face, closing his eyes, bracing for the imminent end he foresaw. Suddenly, the scene was disrupted by the unexpected hit of a piece of garbage on the iguana's back—an apple core.

Momentarily startled, the iguana turned to locate the source of the interruption. To their surprise, an unusual hooded figure emerged from the shadows, casually bouncing another apple core in their right hand, yet with deliberate intent, almost as if they wanted to make it unmistakably clear that they were the one who threw the first. Bathed in the weak light of a damaged, flickering lamppost, the hooded character's front remained shrouded in darkness, while a strong wind shook the low edges of the peculiar hood they were wearing, hinting at the impending snowfall... The iguana let out a wicked smile, releasing the alligator's tie and focusing on the new character.

—Who... it... may... be...? the young alligator said in a weak voice, between tears, confusion, and pain, breathing slowly and weakly.

Hands tucked in their pockets and a mocking expression on their face, the iguana rose and took a step forward, addressing the hooded figure with a question:

—May I help you?

In response, the creature dropped the piece of garbage and remained silent, but the trio could perceive the intensity of their unseen gaze fixed on them. An uneasy tension filled the alley, thick with the dread of what was concealed beneath the hood.

—As you can see, we're kinda busy here, so we'd appreciate if you just buzz off, the iguana retorted, surreptitiously gulping and growing agitated at the hooded figure's silence. The other two remained silent in shock; their instincts screamed danger, sensing an unusual aura from the newcomer.

—Ah, I see, so you're trying to meddle here, aren't cha? the iguana continued, his arrogant composure beginning to waver. With a gesture of his hand, the bossy iguana indicated to the other two to surround the hooded figure, but they didn't react immediately due to the state of shock they were in... —Hey! he yelled at them, making them come to their senses, and they immediately followed the order. The iguana at the front, the lion from behind, the bear at the side, and a wall blocking the exit to the other side—the hooded character was now surrounded. The air crackled with tension, and the alley became a battleground for the imminent confrontation.

The coliseum of fate transformed the dark alley into an illuminated battleground as the thick clouds dispersed, revealing the full moon in all its glory. Bathed in the satellite's argent light, the creature surrounded by the trio was brought into full view, their form slowly revealed by the celestial glow —A male of average height and an athletic figure, with purple scaly skin and distinct reptilian characteristics such as his head and tail. Yet, to the surprise of all those present, the creature bore additional features that shrouded his species in uncertainty: a pair of big horns atop of his head and concealed wings on his back.

—Haha... hahahaha... PAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Suddenly and out of nowhere, the iguana's laughter echoed maniacally, frightening even his allies. The reptilian creature remained unimpressed, squinting lightly and maintaining a stoic expression.

—So this is what it was about... you're a hybrid, aren't cha? Are you in some kind of crossroad to get recognition? Maybe trying to change how the world sees your kind? said the iguana, while slowly approaching the purple creature, a bead of sweat slid down the left side of his face; yet he still wouldn't say a single word, which finally made the iguana snap:

—TCH! CAN'T YOU SAY A WORD, YOU BASTARD?! Enraged, the iguana threw a powerful punch, but the purple reptile vanished almost magically. The iguana started looking for him frantically and then, suddenly, a shiver went through his spine when he realized his opponent was behind him. Completely blinded by anger, the iguana launched a frantic assault, but none of his punches were able to hit.

—DAMN IT! Stop moving!! You two, help too! He yelled to his allies who were frozen watching the fight, however only the lion reacted and joined the assault.

The attacks of the duo were clumsy and without any synchrony, which the hooded reptile immediately noticed and took advantage of: as they attacked simultaneously from opposite directions, he dodged, causing them to hit each other.

—ARE YOU STUPID, FELYOS?! Berating the lion, the iguana demonstrated his loss of temper. —I-I'm sorry, boss... Felyos replied while, between gasps, he brought his wrist to his mouth to wipe the coppery tang of blood that the iguana's forceful punch had drawn; the acrid scent of iron filling the air and the metallic taste now lingering on his tongue made the feline realize their attacks weren't working at all. The iguana was so furious that he started lecturing Felyos, further escalating the tension. Seizing the opportunity, the purple reptile sat in an arrogant pose, calmly observing them—a provocation.

Naturally, this infuriated the iguana. Surprisingly, instead of exploding he took a deep breath, grabbed his shirt in the chest area, and with a strong pull, tore it off, revealing the upper half of a wrestling singlet and next, with a strong, inspiring voice, he yelled, "Toro Titans, stay calm!" This immediately pushed the bear and lion to focus and snap out of their bewilderment.

—Yes captain Braden! they exclaimed immediately.

—Felyos, read his movements! Bamard, force mistakes! Braden ordered. This, and considering their apparent age, revealed their background as a high school wrestling team.

Braden's strategic commands echoed through the alley as they deployed a vast array of wrestling techniques, turning the alley into a wrestling arena. The Toro Titans executed complex maneuvers, attempting to corner the elusive creature, however, like a phantom he gracefully avoided every grapple, punch, and hold. The fight became a dance of athleticism and skill, but the Toro Titans found themselves unable to land a single blow on the mysterious guy.

Despite their disciplined teamwork, as the Toro Titans struggled to anticipate the creature's movements, frustration and fatigue set in. The battle unfolded like a choreographed spectacle, the purple guy's elusive nature leaving the wrestling team perplexed and their enigmatic foe unscathed.

The intensity of the battle had worn down Braden's arrogant optimism, and a flicker of doubt danced in his eyes. The strong wrestling team, the Toro Titans, had thrown everything at the hybrid creature before them, but to no avail. Fatigue clung to them like an insurmountable foe, and frustration threatened to overshadow their determination.

At that critical juncture, the young alligator, lying almost unconscious on the cold ground, coughed weakly—a moment that ignited a spark in Braden's eyes. Almost instantly, a plan hatched in his mind, a risky gambit that might turn the tide of the battle. Determination etched across his face, Braden decided to use the injured alligator, the one his adversary was seemingly trying to protect, as bait.

Without a moment's hesitation, Braden shouted a decisive order, cutting through the chaos of the alley: —Felyos! Go for Tristan!

Perfectly understanding his captain's strategy, Felyos smirked with a mix of confidence and mischief. In a swift motion, he lunged towards Tristan, effectively catching their foe's attention, little did they know he was already steps ahead, orchestrating how to end the trivial quarrel…

In a calculated move, the mysterious hybrid feigned vulnerability and followed Felyos exactly to where the trio wanted him, luring them into a seemingly advantageous position. As the lion lunged forward with confidence, the rest of the wrestling team anticipated an easy victory. However, the purple creature had other plans: With a sudden shift in strategy, he seamlessly transitioned to the counteroffensive; expertly, he sidestepped Felyos' attack, turning the lion's momentum against him: using the lion's own force, the hybrid redirected Felyos into the path of his fellow teammates, creating a domino effect of collisions, each one echoing with the Toro Titans' overconfidence being knocked down. After the team stood up once more, Braden and Felyos synchronized their attacks on the purple reptile, fists aimed with determination, channeling all their strength to bring an end to the combat. With the reflection of the moonlight in his large eyes, almost as if it marked the perfect instant for it, the purple-skinned figure gracefully absorbed the simultaneous assault from both opponents. With martial finesse, the hybrid redirected the force towards the right nerve clusters of the bodies of his attackers, instantly incapacitating them. In that moment, the hybrid's prowess became evident as he skillfully used their own attacks to render them unconscious.

Bamard, the remaining conscious member of the wrestling team, stood there, a witness to the unexpected turn of events. Fear gripped him, not just due to the physical prowess of their enigmatic opponent but also the realization that their own force had been skillfully turned against them. The alley, once a stage for their dominance, now bore the scars of their defeat… In the aftermath of the skirmish, the hybrid's attention shifted towards the sun bear: without uttering a word, a mere flick of the hooded reptile's head communicated him a clear message: to take his fallen comrades and retreat. The silent exchange marked the conclusion of the intense conflict, leaving Bamard to gather his comrades and exit the alley, the echoes of their defeat resonating in the silent night.

Due to Tapas' word limit, Chapter 1 had to be split into two parts. I tried to divide it at a point that would cause the least disruption, but the chapter wasn't originally meant to be split this way. Thank you for your understanding~

In a world much like our own, where anthropomorphic animals shape every corner of society, a solitary being steps out of three centuries of self-imposed isolation: a dragon of overwhelming power, a being out of place in this reality, whose very presence challenges it.

For long he has watched this world from afar. Now, driven by a quiet longing to understand it—and to belong to it—he finally dares to walk among its inhabitants.

There, he encounters souls whose paths seem strangely bound to his own. Among them, one will become more than an ally: a presence that challenges his perceptions, awakens a love both innocent and profound, and gives him a reason to remain.

But the past does not stay buried forever...

A secret, sealed deep within his heart, begins to stir. And with it, the first echoes of the realm he was never meant to leave behind—forces that could shatter the fragile peace he has only just found.

A tale of love, struggles, and the untold secrets of a dragon's heart, this is a journey where destiny and choice entwine… and where the fiercest battles are fought in order to build... Future.

Note:
This story is not an ongoing series. What's currently published — a prologue and Chapter 1, ending with a piece of concept art — is meant to stand as a glimpse into a larger world.

I originally created it to give shape to a world and a set of characters that matter to me, even if I’m not currently in a position to develop the story further on my own.

If you're a reader, I hope you enjoy it as a short, self-contained experience.
If you're a creator and the idea resonates with you, you're welcome to reach out.
