Without time to aim, he shot my stomach twice. “Oh yeah, he has a
gun”. I can't even come up with a hyperbole for how many times more
painful it was than it is described in books or shown on shows. I
attempted to continue to walk towards the man, hoping for an opening to
knock the gun from his hands. I realized how childish that idea was
after he shot both of my legs.
I fell to the
ground looking like an eight year old who just stubbed his toe, but
instead of hissing, I screamed in pain. My fear turned into terror as I
saw what looked like gallons of blood pouring out of the holes in my
body.
I watched in dismay as he continued to
Assault the poor girl, wishing that I could have done more for her.
That's when I saw it, a transparent red thing appeared in front of my
face. “I must be hallucinating” I thought “After all I am losing blood
fast.”
“It says “Damage has exceeded 50%,
Activation of automatic defensive systems will commence without
Authorization” wait, defensive systems, what does that mean”
The man instantaneously flopped to the floor, unconscious, and my wounds healed. “Oh, that's what it meant”
I
got up and walked over to the girl, forcefully looking away. I offered
my hand, and with a little hesitation, she took it. I spun around,
grasping her hand tightly, and walked out of the house trying to think
of what to do next.
We settled in another,
slightly more trustworthy looking, back alley as to not be seen. I took
of my shirt and handed it to her, signifying that I wanted her to put it
on. “Oh well, there are more important things than being comfortable,
at least I can look at her straight in the face.”
“What
was that red thing I saw earlier?” I accidentally said aloud. A blue
transparent thing that looked like a laptop screen with no laptop
appeared in front of me, saying, “The menu is a system that is dedicated
to one person and grants that person abilities that would normally be
impossible.”
“Well, that's great, but if I don't know how to use it, it's useless to me.”
“You literally just say “open”.”
“Was that some attitude I just got there?” no response.
“Fine then, open”
A
window full of information popped up in front of me. At the bottom
there was a bar that contained what looked like folders of some sort.
One of them was called shop and, intrigued, I said “Shop”, but nothing
happened. Just to be sure, I repeated “Shop”, nothing.
That's
when I realized that it might be a physical thing and not just visible.
I tried tapping it with my finger and sure enough, some sort of shop
thing opened up above the bar. It looked like this is how I acquire the
abilities it was talking about. I tried tapping the speed-up one but it
popped up a notice that read, “You need 100 PowerPoints to purchase this
skill up, it appears you only have 10 PowerPoints”
It
looks like there's some sort of currency called PowerPoints. Wait, this
one is only five PowerPoints, and it's called language translation, i'm
hoping that means that I will be able to communicate with her. And
purchase, lets see, it looks like I need to activate it in order for it
to work, so let's do that. It didn't occur to me that the girl probably
wouldn't be able to see what I'm doing.
“Umm, what are you doing?”
“Oh, uh, I was just thinking.”
“O… K…”
“Wait, do you understand me?!”
“Yeah?”
“And I can understand you, that's great, this means that it actually works!”
“What works?”
“Uhh, nothing.”
“Doesn't seem like nothing to me.”
“Anyway, where do you think we are?” I dodged.
“Well not in Tokyo I can tell you that.”
“Is that where you're from?”
“Yeah.”
“Well either way, that billboard over there is in English so we're probably in America.”
“What can we do from here?”
“I don't really know, but what I do know is there's a nice and inviting, abandoned looking building over there.”
I
took her to the shack as it started to rain. We ran for shelter in the
building as the rain grew colder. I propped myself on the wall and tried
to fall asleep with the mentality that I was in a nice warm bed at
home. After what felt like an eternity, I fell asleep very uncomfortably
hoping to wake up to a sunny morning.
