The Writer in Some Kind of Fantasy World

Lesser Britannia City

It has already been a week since he woke up in that world.

He was able to adapt quickly in their culture and customs through learning in their everyday life.

He was also able to acquire a source of income by helping the citizen regarding some menial task.

"Oh? You already settled down here in the city," the waitress of the bar commented as she served him the meal.

"No, I'm still a little nervous when I see patrolling knights," he jokingly said.

The waitress just smiled and gave him a push to support him.

"Of course, I will be afraid. If they knew my origin, it would be troublesome and might cause me some kind of punishment. This city is really different from my old world."

Lesser Britannia. A neutral city in the middle of the Rollaire continent.

There was a story that several years ago, it was a great empire called The Grand Britannia Empire.

But due to the continuous warring states, it was reduced to a large city by the alliance of surrounding nations.

With the help of White Magic Tower, it was able to attain neutrality and autonomy. Thus, creating the city, Lesser Britannia.

"...and that was what I just read in the public library inside the city. And with the existence of White Magic Tower, I can really say that I'm not in my old world."

When he finished his meal, he decided to go out of the bar after thanking the bar master and waitresses.

Some citizens already knew him and were able to mingle with him.

Though, he still had the major problem of most humans.

"I don't have money!!!" he screamed in the middle of the street.

Some passing people looked at him so he embarrassedly strolled his way out of there.

"But, even working my bones until it breaks, I could only have minimal money to spend."

He picked up his coin pouch and saw the remaining five pieces of copper coins.

"With this amount, I could only survive until tomorrow."

"I found out about the coin denomination and its equivalent to the currency back in my old world."

The coins that were used in that world were copper, silver and gold. A hundred of copper was equal to one silver and a hundred of silver was equal to one gold.

"...and one copper is equal to about 1000 in the currency back in my old world. Then, the registration for the citizen identity tag is too expensive and the entrance fee too."

"Damn this life."

He was walking without a destination when he saw signage from his peripheral vision so he walked backwards to clearly look at it.

"What's that symbol? Two crossing swords..."

"Haaaa... I just remember that I was initially able to understand and talk with the people of this world even though they used unknown language from my perspective but I couldn't really read properly the letters they used."

"There's just a feeling that I understand those letters that look like some kind of symbols but I couldn't read them."

He paused and got a realization after looking intently at the logo. Until a light bulb appeared at the top of his head.

"I see. It's the Adventurer Guild." He praised himself. "But just a hunch. To see is to believe."

He opened the door wide and he was welcomed with piercing stares from the people inside.

"I'm right... hehehe..."

"Oh? Welcome to the Lesser Britannia Adventurer Guild," the girl clerk greeted.

He just went to the counter with his head down low.

"Are you an adventurer or are you trying to be an adventurer?"

"Ahhh..."

"What will I say? I have prior knowledge about it through reading some manga but my voice didn't want to come out."

"Hmmm? Mister?"

"Ahhh... I want to be an adventurer!"

"What's that?! Are you a kid answering your teacher about what you want to be when you grow up?"

The girl clerk just laughed at him before showing a small book.

"This is the rule book of the Adventurer Guild. You can take your time reading it. Then, I will take it as you want to register as an adventurer."

"Yes..." he answered in a small voice.

"I just remember. I'm not an outdoor type and not good at socializing. Given that I only accept those menial tasks in the past few days as a means of survival but this..."

"First, Lesser Britannia Adventurer Guild is just a branch guild. You can also register, use your identification card and take quests in some branches, or the headquarters in Allicia Kingdom, south of the Lesser Britannia..."

She kindly explained every important thing to him and some main points on the rule book that she gave to him.

"Lastly, to finally register as an adventurer, we need to test the applicant?"

"Test? Ahhh... I know, I know. I read some of this scenario but I hope it's not a written exam because I will probably fail that."

The girl clerk put a stone slab in his front with a hand print sculpted in it.

"We need to test if you have a mana to be eligible in registering as an adventurer."

"Oh... My... God..."

"D-Do I need to do that?" he asked while drenched in sweat due to extreme nervousness.

"Yes. It is the initial test to take."

"NOOO!!!"

"Don't worry. Even if you have a little mana, you can still register as an adventurer."

"That's my problem. I'm from the world with no magic so I will probably have no mana."

"Though, it is really known that adventurers are purely combative and physical power users, but they also need mana to use some skills. So, after you register as an adventurer, you will still take a magic test every year to ascertain your eligibility as an adventurer."

"Are you for real?"

"And there's also a rank advancement exam quarterly for those who stockpile their achievements and points and are deemed eligible to take the said exam."

"I don't care about that!!!"

"So, nothing to fear. Just put your hands on the mana stone scanner and it will show your status,"

"Ahhhh!!! This girl sounds like an expert swindler that manipulates you to buy something because my hand is gradually reaching that scanner. Ahhhh!!!"

He put his hand on the magic stone scanner and they both waited for the reaction and result until it lightened up which surprised him.

"W-W-What is this? This light is increasing... am I having the best result of all the test takers? I'm so amazing!!!"
