First Adventuring Request

A young man was sitting outside the Adventurer Guild lifeless and looked like been punished by the heavens.

"That was it? For real?... ehhhh?"

He was devastated by something that happened starting from his registration a few minutes ago.

After placing his hand on the magic stone scanner, it lightened up bright which gave him surprise, as well as hope that it will be a good result.

"I have a good feeling about this."

The light dissipated and a blue floating screen appeared, showing his mana result.

"Hmmm... it shows that you have mana, Sir." The clerk read the result. " But it is on the minimum requirement, and almost about to fail. F-rank mana power." She felt compassionate about him.

He just smiled and got stuck in his place like a stone, waiting to be washed away by the winds and disappeared in the world.

"But you have excellent mana manipulation and control on it, according to the data results," she said as comforting him.

"I want to become a slug if I've got reincarnated in my next life."

"...but what's mana manipulation and control?" he curiously asked.

"Ahhh... That thing..."

The clerk kindly informed him about the mana and its composition. She shared information regarding that, giving a short lesson to him.

"I see..."

"So I excel in two factors of mana. And through training, I could raise its power."

"So, if you're ready to register. Here..."

She gave him a form and a quill pen. He read the content of the form and found a problem.

So, this form needs some of my personal information. Luckily, they don't require handing some documents which look the same with some manga I read before but...

"Name, huh?"

He felt troubled and hesitant on writing something on it.

"But, since that they don't need a legal document. I could use some pseudonym or nickname like **perman, **tman, @character1234 or I'm your father."

He just picked up a name from his character vault inside his brain that he was using for his story.

"Another thing is this hometown."

"I couldn't just write Earth here or my apartment's address."

He just decided to look at the map pinned on the wall and chose a random village name.

Then, he submitted the form to the girl clerk and she checked it before stamping it with a seal.

"We will just process your identification card. Please wait a moment."

He nodded as she went inside a room. He sat down to an available seat at the side of the counter desk, enduring some stares from the adventurer inside the guild.

"Haaa... I just remember that this world has slow progress in civilization. They are still using a quill pen. As a writer, the pen is my weapon but they don't even have just a pencil or a ballpen."

After a few minutes, he was called and the girl clerk gave him his adventurer's ID card, proving that he successfully got registered as an adventurer.

"Can I start taking a request?"

"Yes, you can. Our request board is here at the left of the counter. You can only pick up the F-rank quests due to your rank."

"As expected. It's not like I will have a cheat skill or overwhelming power to be a top ranker. It was only in manga or stories. And I didn't even meet someone who should give me those, like for example, 'goddess'."

He just thanked the girl clerk for all of her help and went to the request board to look for some request job.

"Usually, my quest would only center on gathering materials or finding a lost pet, if there are pets here which I think there's none."

He searched the whole request board looking for a suitable job for him with easy money payment until stood in the middle.

"I don't understand anything," he blabbered catching the attention of those who are also looking at the request board.

He felt ashamed and just picked up an F-rank request without reading the content since he didn't know how to read it.

And he informed the girl clerk before he started his first step of adventuring with bright smile

Then, going back to him, sitting in all white like a paper.

"Why?" he asked and looked at his hand. "Why couldn't I use magic?!!!"

He spent half of the day manifesting his magic, believing he could do it because he had mana.

But through countless methods such as spouting nonsense enchant, dancing like crazy as a ritual or acting like a boy with eight grade syndrome, he still couldn't do it, leaving him devastated by that fact.

A gust of wind passed him and he suddenly stood up and collected himself.

"Let's not dawdle here and focus on something we can't do." He nodded on himself. "I will just finish my quest." He looked at the quest. "I see... I still couldn't understand anything."

"But I was able to write using their writing system. Is this what they call natural genius?"

He just stopped thinking about that and looked at the illustration which he deduced as a gathering of that some kind of herb.

"The location is on the entrance of that deadly forest, probably."

He just decided to go to the place he passed while going out of the forest.

When, he came to the place, he saw many types of plants and flowers and decided to stay far even from the entrance of the forest.

He used the illustration as a guide to find the herb until the dusk came.

"They all looked the same!!! What the hell is it? Is the F-rank quest this difficult now?!"

He grasped for air after shouting in the field, alone by himself.

"It's not like there will be a status bar that will pop up if I touch a herb."

He looked at a plant and sat down before looking from his left to right, checking for the presence of people.

Then, he touched the plant for some second like really hoping for that miracle.

"There's no really a status bar, stupid self!"

He weeded out the plant due to the frustration but immediately planted it back.

He sighed as he sat on the field of grass while looking at the sky.

"Different world, same situation. I'm still..."

He wasn't able to continue when he heard a soft moan coming from behind the bushes near him.

"What's that noise?" He gulped and heard that sound again. "Is that a human?"

He mustered the courage to approach it, slowly and carefully, until he reached the place. He looked at it and was surprised by what he saw.

"I'm... mmmh... mmmh..."

"A person? And... Tch. Reeks of booze."

A woman sleeping on the grass, drunk and still holding a bottle of alcohol. She looked like there since the last night.

He was hesitating if he would help her or just let her sleep in that dangerous place.

"But she looked a bit beautiful... Is this the start of my popular period like in that story. My first meeting with my heroine?"

"Woohh! Is everyone enjoying the party?... mmhm... mmhmm... drink more..."

"Ah. No. She's just a party people."
