Without a hint of hesitation, Rain knocked on the rusted colored wood of the door.
It took several moments, possibly due to confusion, for a face to appear in the small round window of the door. Wide eyes stared in surprise at Rain who stood, her expression set in stone, on the steps of the moving train's watch box. There was barely enough time for the guard to speak as Rain reached into the folds of her jacket and withdrew a pistol. Pointing it immediately at the shocked visage in the window, she fired. The face disappeared back into the blackness behind the door and a scent of hot blood was left in its wake. Its aroma stirred her thoughts but there was no time to relish it. The urge to feed was in fact the last thing on her mind. Placing the gun back into its holster at her breast, Rain reached up and grasped onto the roof of the train car. Needing to survey the distance to her destination, the half vampire girl pulled her body up onto the frigid metal surface. There, Rain felt the beatings of every heart trapped in the car beneath her feet. Her mouth went dry as she touched the roof with her hands. The vibrations of each life flowed into her fingertips. That moment stretched on for a lifetime for she knew there was nothing she could do to save them.
